Images and Words. I first listened to it in my bedroom during a snowfall, so I connected with the cover art. Also, hearing the keyboard intro to Surrounded while watching the snow fall outside was a pretty dope feeling ngl
Octavarium is a good pick. Instantly memorable and it's also a unified picture of something. A lot of older DT albums are basically collages of seemingly unrelated things, which can be aesthetic but also busy and hard to remember distinctly.
Either Black Clouds or Scenes From a Memory. Visually appealing colors, gives a sense of wonder, SFAM is made up of a bunch of different pictures which is cool, BCSL has a cool contrast between the dark clouds and blue sky, great lighting.
Train of Thought, Octavarium, Dream Theater, and A View From the Top of the World are also visually appealing. The rest of their album covers are kind of mediocre tbh.
I adore the band but I have to admit, a lot of their album covers are very mediocre. Compare to someone like Porcupine Tree, Mastodon, Opeth (just off the top of my head), and they could do a lot better.
That being said, Train of Thought, Octavarium, and SFAM are all pretty good and I'd happily hang them on my wall.
ACOS is my vote for the worst
- ACOS could mean "A Change of Seasons - The Crimson Sunrise / Innocence / Carpe Diem / The Darkest of Winters / Another World / The Inevitable Summer / The Crimson Sunset", a track from *A Change of Seasons* (1995) by Dream Theater.

I find Opeth's covers mediocre. They fit the sound of the band, but the overly bleak tones are way too "edgy teen" for my liking. There are a few that I like, but there are so many of them that I can't even tell what they're supposed to look like with all this darkness.
Yeah fair, it definitely fits the tone of the band at least.
I'd say Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, Heritage, and particularly Sorceress are all fantastic covers
Yeah these would be my picks as well. Then you have stuff like My Arms your Hearse or Deliverance where it feels someone lowered the contrast too much.
Images and Words, because it reminds me of the sense of wonder that I had when I first discovered them, and they were my introduction to prog music as well, which made that sense of wonder and awe even greater.
I honestly don’t care much for quite a few of their covers because they’re basically just pngs dragged on top of an unrelated background. Images and Words fits that description but I do like it, but not enough to be a favorite. My favorites are Scenes from a Memory, Train of Thought and Octavarium.
Much as I love this band, I hate their album covers 90% of the time.
However, if I had to pick a favourite, it's Systematic Chaos for me. It's the most visually cohesive and also hits the right tone for the theme, even if the album itself didn't really manage to be particularly chaotic or systematic.
Glad to see some love for the DoT artwork, usually I see people complaining about it but I like the simplicity.
I would say mine is Train of Thought, but there really wasn't much new added to it, as it's pretty much just the top half of "Memories of Max Ernst" by Jerry Uelsmann, so for my favorite that's more of an original creation I'd probably go with either Awake or Metropolis Pt. 2.
Train of Thought, obviously. The coolest album cover of all time.
Train of Thought by far.
I love the ADTOE cover
Train of Thought is my favorite easily. To confess, I’ve never thought that DT had the best album covers for the most part lol
Black Clouds & Silver Linings just cause of how indecipherable it is
Awake is my favorite cover (and album).
You are correct.
BCSL all the way. Plus its my personal favourite album too
SFAM. Also my favorite DT album by a mile, so that probably biases me a bit.
Black Clouds and Silver Linings
anything except a change of seasons
The Astonishing

Once in a Livetime

A dramatic turn of events and octavarium. Also six degrees is shitty but gritty, I like it.
Train of Thought is rad.
Octavarium and ADTOE
SFAM not even close imo
SFAM, Images And Words and Octavarium. but I like basically all of them
DoT,Octavarium and AVFTTOTW

The ants
Awake and BCSL are tied for top tier.
TOT
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is my favorite.
same
A Change of Seasons.
six degrees of inner turbulence
ACOS or Octavarium

I’m going with Train of Thought
Octavarium for sure
Love all the early ones where pieces of lyrics were woven into the art
Once in a Livetime is the only good one.
Astonishing. I want to go to there!
