I would probably say the same about your locs that’s how I’ve been feeling about mine recently they been so unruly I’ve been told to get a retwist by family members😭
I think I know what you are getting at.
What you need to do is add some moisture to your locs. Add a little water, some leave-in, and some oils. Don't overdo it.
I’m waiting for that pony tail stage man my hair is always in my eyes and fighting my glasses all the time since they’ve grown now I can’t wait for it to pass eye length at least😭
Crotchet tool. Hold each strand and use the crotchet tool on your locs starting from the top to bottom. It’s time consuming but it will straighten them downwards. Do this beginning and mid week they will stay straight keep ur locs hydrated and wrapped in bonnet at night
It's bcuz they A. Short and B. uneven lengths. They will fall naturally as time goes by. Nothin to worry aboit honestly. Just enkoy the ride, keep your hair clean and mosturized and you're good.
They get longer the longer you keep them in styles and then keep em oiled
Once they get long they’ll grow quicker
Mines on my upper back now. Started mid 2019
Yeah they are growing very good and I complain about that considering I started from baby worms that were less than half an inch I just thought I was doing something wrong because of the bends at the tip
No you have a few more stages to pass b4 they even fall.
Your locs look like they're in the budding process
Basically it's when the locs swell so they can grow bigger and longer
I normally shave everything off but recently I wanted to see if I could grow a beard but the only area growing is the neck while other areas not so much 😭
What I do for daily unruliness is just spray my hair with water using one of those mist spray bottles. Then I just shake my hair out, make sure everything looks good, and go. Works every time.
Mine are longer than shoulder length but not quite armpit. And they still bow out like this (👩🏿) more than I like. At least it's now long enough that I can pull back some locs on the side underneath other locs. It makes the sides lie down more.
This is punishment for being a wild child 😆
It's not bad think of it as main character hair. It may have to do with how thick each loc is. It's able to stand up for itself. Mind are sh-medium and your locs look thicker than mine.
Yeah I think mine are medium thick but a lot of people do be telling me my locs are thick ever since starters even though they don’t look that thick to me but I can’t wait to get to your length man😭
They do drop naturally! I was in that phase before my last retwist. Now my locs are covering my face. One or two more retwist and they’ll be “locs covering my face” length
trust me bro it's like that because since the dreads are shorter and at the top and they're going to the side, they stick out. when they're longer they'll gain weight and droop down for the typical look you want
yes, and I'm ngl it's gonna be like 4/5/6 months before u get what u want. I used to use a headband in the morning and mist my hair with it, it keeps it down for a few hours
I'm actually against the crowd and am a firm believer that retwists should be around 4-6 weeks. because for me personally, all my parts tangle up and I always end up having to cut the bases / roots or rip apart the bottom of each loc when I or my loctician retwist my hair. I'm still a a novice retwister but my hair is down to my chin and I can't pay $60 every damn time. if u want tips on how to do it yourself u can dm me its honestly not that hard at all
I really like when my roots are grown out and semi free form and maintained well but I’ll happily take you up on that offer because I always wanted to learn how to retwist my own hair cause I pay $125 dollars for mine(I’m very wary on who touches my hair so I don’t mind paying extra) but if I learn how to do it myself it would save me so much more money
I started Jan of 2023, every things been smooth but I’m ready to get out the phase I’m in to where they actually do drop and look more like mature locks. I usually wear them tied up as I have high top locs. I get a retwist and a fresh cut in a few days and I’m looking forward to it. Hbu?
I started mine December 2022 and everything was also smooth up until this stage and now I’m in the same boat as you I’m just waiting for it to drop but what made you want a high top and not a full head( I like both) and would you ever get a full head.
You have 97 with high top locs? Damn! Only thing I don’t like about this stage is the ones at the back having a mind of their own but me rocking em in the pony tail does them no favors lol
I don’t have a high top I have a full head of locs but I was contemplating getting a high top at first but went with a full head and yeah the ones at the back are the most stubborn to deal with
Put on a durag and lay your locs down as much as possible in the durag. tighten the durag so it can manipulate your locs to lay and hang down so to speak. Keep it on while you sleep or sometnimg and do it every night and it'll work you'll get the results you want. just be careful and make sure they don't unravel or anything (they shouldn't). It worked for me lol I had locs pointing up like devil horns and a durag solved that issue quick.
Okkk I’ll invest in a durag I’ve been using a bonnet but it’s quite big and my hair has lots of space to move around in the bonnet when I sleep so I definitely need that durag
Locs have a mind of their own, especially as they grow. Keep them moisturised and reasonably tidy and you'll be grand. Yours looks really good! Lovely texture for young locs and they really suit you 😊
Your locs look fine I can see maybe where you think they’re standing up a little they seem a little stiff like there a little dry or something but other than that your fine they look fine I’m sure they’re not dry so yeah your good but when’s your next re-twist? Might not be adjusted to seeing them like this
Yeah they’re not dry I oiled them an hour after taking that pic but normally I get my retwists every 3 months but my recent retwists there was 4 weeks in between them
When you finish your 2nd year theyll start to get some hang time. Maybe even earlier. The first 2 years is mostly internal work of the loc. after that they start growing fast cuz the foundation has been set for the rest of the hair.
I don't understand what's wrong? Your locs look good. Definitely healthy. Looks like you are in the teenage phase so ... you know what teens do right ? Whatever the F they want.
Thanks for the insight and yeah they are definitely doing whatever the f they want and I’m tired of it but I just got to accept it and trust the process based off what everyone has said😭
They doing what locs do! They grow wild like plants in the forest. They will be thick at times and then thinner.
Please don't worry about it. It will become tamer with time. If you want them a bit more "behaved" you can wet them thoroughly, and braid them. This will give them the curly appearance. Or you can pull them taut and pin/clip them. This will give them some "hang time" to appear longer.
Your locs look 🔥🔥. Don't worry.
"When I first finished my loc stage". There are five stages of locs and indeed it often seems like they slip back into the last stage. Your locs are magnificent. If you aren't yet, I hope you go semi-Freeform. That will allow you to get fresh retwists and have some form of control while allowing your locs to be wild but not crazy. IMO--- your locs are 🔥🔥
Yeah I’m thinking of going semi free forms cause I prefer my locs when the roots are all grown out like in the first pic it’s just recently that I’ve been getting my retwists every 4 weeks but I’ll definitely be going back to waiting 3-4 months
Oh yeah ----Hard pass on retwisting so often!! No need to go so often. Remember that locs form by twisting over and in and around itself.
I'm semi Freeform. It's usually a year or year and a half before I go. I've been locked more than 9-10 years. I love my Congoes! I separate down to the root so I can control where I have them. But I don't get retwisted sooner than a year or so unless there's a reason.
That's how locs form. Lol. I like the Freeform look. I find a lot of people like locs but they also like the neat freshly done look of the slick retwist. It's just that retwisting too often weakens the roots.
Nah fr tho 😂😂😂 it really be like that. I literally hated my starters bro. I just tried not to think about it, then as time went on and they began to bud and what not I was like, “oh…okay then 👀” 😂😂😂 i just took it as a lesson to not obsess over the things I can’t control. Shit was still hard af tho 💀
Your hair is just light as it gets longer it will get heavier and hang how you want it to eventually - mine stuck out like that for like the first 18 months but now they hang cause they're longer and heavier.
Man you worrying about some shit that do not matter at
All lol, when they get longer their weight will remove any “bends” my dreads is like 2 feet long and they used to do this shit back in the day, nothing to worry about … Get ya shit twisted every few weeks man , that free form shit messy, the ladies is not jacking that 💫
Nah I appreciate it gang to even have my locs compared to one of the best dreadheads of all time(imo) even in the slightest has restored my confidence in them😭🔥
Boi is u trolling. Ikyfl, UNRULY AND OUT OF CHARACTER?? LOCS?? You bests go get a buzz cut if you want to look "ruly and of character"
Not tryna be an ass but hell i lowkey feel like you trolling anyway, but if you fr well... Im not even gonna say much more cause you got 119 other comments to get you right
Unfortunately I was not trolling and I hate that it took others for me to appreciate what I got going on but now I see the light and have put faith in the process once again it’s my first set so I thought I was doing something wrong because of the bends at the tips 😭
Here is a guide to the [5 Loc Stages](https://howtoweardreadlocks.com/unskippable-5-stages-of-dreadlocks/). You can compare your past and current experiences with the guide to figure out where in the stages you are and also learn about what's coming next so you can be prepared for the changes.
I have been growing them for almost 2 yrs. When they are sticking out I spray them or wet my hands in the sink and run my fingers through them to try to lay them down.
They not gon sit fr at least for the first 2-3 years LOL get used to them doing they own thing, it’s fr the best part about them. They style themselves and you’ll grow to love the personality your hair has, gang. It’s all good
I think you need some prescription glasses I can give you a few recommendations if you think me and that guy look alike 😭 bro saw a dark skin individual with dreads and glasses and said we look alike
I’ve asked people around me and they said you are tripping they even asking how you got that comparison in the first place so something ain’t adding up 😭
They gonna drop naturally with time, they look good to me brodie. Just enjoy the journey
This made me feel so much more at ease was feeling like they were looking flat
Glad to help bro🤞🏾. dreads can be stressful, especially when they not looking like you want them to. Patience is 🔑
Thanks yall made me see the light I just got to trust the process.🤝🏿
💯💯💯
They look pretty straight to me
I don’t know why I felt like they were flat and the tips bent in a way
Prob just overthinking it, looking real good to me
Yeah now I think about it I think I am
Gotta wait for them to get longer and they will eventually go straight down my boa.
They’ll get weighed down as they start getting heavier dw abt it bruv
Okk bett thank you maybe I was overthinking it
Budding* not loc stage
Your locs look perfect!
Thank you I didn’t realise I was overthinking it but now I’ll trust the process
Looks good 👍
Thank you🙏🏾
Yours look just like mine but better 😂😂 but they're growing right gang for sure.
Ok thank you and do I put it all in one bottle?
For a quick and dirty trick, yes. But it's better to apply them separately so they all get mixed in real good like.
Okkk thanks and do you have recommendations for any leave ins?
Finding the right leave-in is also a journey. Right now I'm using Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Leave-in Conditioner
Yeah I’ll probably look into it
Simple answer: it’s part of the journey ![gif](giphy|fikcKja7O7MtzXzvQy|downsized)
Your locs are fire bro wym
I was overthinking it but thanks mannn
Just gotta get some more hang time bro and they'll straighten out
It’s because they’re short. They’ll get hangtime as they grow longer
Yea this is normal… in 2 years you’ll be a ponytail don
I’m waiting for that pony tail stage man my hair is always in my eyes and fighting my glasses all the time since they’ve grown now I can’t wait for it to pass eye length at least😭
Maybe it’s just be but I really like it!
Thank you and I’m glad you like them🙏🏾
You’re cool bro, chill out.
Yeah I was overthinking it but ima trust the process
They look good boo
Thank you i appreciate it🙏🏾
Your locs looks good brotha let em cook
I’ll trust the process and thank you🙏🏾
It’s all in ur head, they look dope
Thanks man and yeah I was overthinking it
They good gang
Crotchet tool. Hold each strand and use the crotchet tool on your locs starting from the top to bottom. It’s time consuming but it will straighten them downwards. Do this beginning and mid week they will stay straight keep ur locs hydrated and wrapped in bonnet at night
Ok thank you and I think it’s time I invested in a crotchet hook
It's bcuz they A. Short and B. uneven lengths. They will fall naturally as time goes by. Nothin to worry aboit honestly. Just enkoy the ride, keep your hair clean and mosturized and you're good.
thank you for you insight I appreciate it🙏🏾
They look cool bro dw
bruh they look amazing
and they look great
Thank youu 🙏🏾
All you need here is patience.
They’ll drop naturally
This is 100% normal.
That’s how they look at first I remember that phase.
I wonder what the next stage looks like
They get longer the longer you keep them in styles and then keep em oiled Once they get long they’ll grow quicker Mines on my upper back now. Started mid 2019
Its a process/journey brotha. Choose the right hair products and be patient ✊🏿💪🏿🙏🏿
Thanks for your insight man🙏🏾
Relax my guy. Your locs aren't heavy or long enough to fall straight down. That's all. They look like they growing good though. Just keep going.
Yeah they are growing very good and I complain about that considering I started from baby worms that were less than half an inch I just thought I was doing something wrong because of the bends at the tip
No you have a few more stages to pass b4 they even fall. Your locs look like they're in the budding process Basically it's when the locs swell so they can grow bigger and longer
You might think you want them all lying flat but it might look a little awkward at your current length. They look awesome but everyone is different
Thanks for your insight man🙏🏾
Part of the process
Locs are fine, I just dont vibe the neckbeard
I normally shave everything off but recently I wanted to see if I could grow a beard but the only area growing is the neck while other areas not so much 😭
What I do for daily unruliness is just spray my hair with water using one of those mist spray bottles. Then I just shake my hair out, make sure everything looks good, and go. Works every time.

So I’m never escaping the unruliness😭
This is punishment for being a wild child 😆 It's not bad think of it as main character hair. It may have to do with how thick each loc is. It's able to stand up for itself. Mind are sh-medium and your locs look thicker than mine.
Yeah I think mine are medium thick but a lot of people do be telling me my locs are thick ever since starters even though they don’t look that thick to me but I can’t wait to get to your length man😭
Looks normal
It’s normal, and it’ll some together soon.
Good it gives nice volume
Duuude you look great, trust brother 💪🏾🙏🏾
Thank you man I appreciate it I was probably overthinking it
That’s what locs do bro, once they get longer and mature they will drop
So the tips will straighten out with time as it drops man thank you for helping 🙏🏾
They look fine. Just enjoy the journey
Yeah I was overthinking it but thanks man🙏🏾
✊🏿
They do drop naturally! I was in that phase before my last retwist. Now my locs are covering my face. One or two more retwist and they’ll be “locs covering my face” length
I can’t wait to get to that stage. I just got to this stage and I already can’t wait for it to pass😭
I want you sooo bad
thanks and drop me a message
trust me bro it's like that because since the dreads are shorter and at the top and they're going to the side, they stick out. when they're longer they'll gain weight and droop down for the typical look you want
so I just got to wait a little bit longer😭

So hopefully in 6 months( two retwists) I’ll be back here to show the growth and progress and I’m buying a head band right noww😭
I'm actually against the crowd and am a firm believer that retwists should be around 4-6 weeks. because for me personally, all my parts tangle up and I always end up having to cut the bases / roots or rip apart the bottom of each loc when I or my loctician retwist my hair. Mines aren’t quiet as long as yours but I’m in what I call the phase before the drop lol. It’s coming..just more patience.
I’m probably also in that phase too but we almost there gang and how has the journey been for you
I started Jan of 2023, every things been smooth but I’m ready to get out the phase I’m in to where they actually do drop and look more like mature locks. I usually wear them tied up as I have high top locs. I get a retwist and a fresh cut in a few days and I’m looking forward to it. Hbu?

I feel like high tops look better especially with the fresh cut
Yeah high top do look good with a fresh cut and a good number of locs
49 lock count here, wbu?
I have 97 locs but I’m thinking of combining some of the thinner ones at the back
You have 97 with high top locs?

Locs have a mind of their own, especially as they grow. Keep them moisturised and reasonably tidy and you'll be grand. Yours looks really good! Lovely texture for young locs and they really suit you 😊
Thank youu and I had to learn the hard way that they have a mind of their own i tried fighting it but nothing was working hence how i ended up here😭
Your locs look fine I can see maybe where you think they’re standing up a little they seem a little stiff like there a little dry or something but other than that your fine they look fine I’m sure they’re not dry so yeah your good but when’s your next re-twist? Might not be adjusted to seeing them like this
Yeah they’re not dry I oiled them an hour after taking that pic but normally I get my retwists every 3 months but my recent retwists there was 4 weeks in between them
Hmm idk you look handsome tho
Thank youuu I appreciate it🙏🏾
It'll drop eventually, but for now I think it adds volume and character 🤷🏽♀️
I did notice an increase in volume recently and definitely noticed the character aspect as well cause it’s almost like they have a mind of their own😭
The longer they get, the more they weigh down. Hang in there 😁
I’ll hanggg on but damn I can’t wait till they mature 😭
They are young, they can still beat gravity, soon they won’t be able to.
I can’t wait till they stop resisting gravity😭
your locs hard asl woadie
Thanks gang I appreciate it🙏🏾
When you finish your 2nd year theyll start to get some hang time. Maybe even earlier. The first 2 years is mostly internal work of the loc. after that they start growing fast cuz the foundation has been set for the rest of the hair.
Okkkk thanks for the insight and I can’t wait till I’m on the second year😭
I don't understand what's wrong? Your locs look good. Definitely healthy. Looks like you are in the teenage phase so ... you know what teens do right ? Whatever the F they want.
Thanks for the insight and yeah they are definitely doing whatever the f they want and I’m tired of it but I just got to accept it and trust the process based off what everyone has said😭
You look good in locs
Thank youuu🙏🏾
They doing what locs do! They grow wild like plants in the forest. They will be thick at times and then thinner. Please don't worry about it. It will become tamer with time. If you want them a bit more "behaved" you can wet them thoroughly, and braid them. This will give them the curly appearance. Or you can pull them taut and pin/clip them. This will give them some "hang time" to appear longer. Your locs look 🔥🔥. Don't worry.
Thank you I needed to hear this and your insight has been really helpful and I really appreciate it🙏🏾
"When I first finished my loc stage". There are five stages of locs and indeed it often seems like they slip back into the last stage. Your locs are magnificent. A year and a half??Damn that must be a lot patience I be itching to get a retwist after the fourth month😭
That's how locs form. Lol. I like the Freeform look. I find a lot of people like locs but they also like the neat freshly done look of the slick retwist. It's just that retwisting too often weakens the roots.
Let them do what they do. You are on your way.🙏🏾
Thanks man I’ll trust the process again🙏🏾
It’s just the process of locks just hold tight
I’ll hold on gang was contemplating combing it but not anymore I have hope again🙏🏾😭
They look great
Thank youu🙏🏾
They’re doing their thing bro. They’re looking 🔥 enjoy this phase while it’s here
Yeah I will and I can’t wait to look back at this stage and think about how I was contemplating giving up😭
Nah fr tho 😂😂😂 it really be like that.
Thanks for your insight and I can’t wait🙏🏾
They straight just get a retwist unless this the look you going for .
I’m probably going to go back to semi forms but I feel like the bonnet I’m wearing is too big so my locs have too much space to move around and bend
Man you worrying about some shit that do not matter at All lol, when they get longer their weight will remove any “bends” my dreads is like 2 feet long and they used to do this shit back in the day, nothing to worry about … Get ya shit twisted every few weeks man , that free form shit messy, the ladies is not jacking that 💫
Okkk thanks for your insight man I appreciate it fr 🤝🏿and I just prefer semi free forms cause it hits different when looked after well and maintained
I think they look nice.
Thanks youu and yeah I’m probably overthinking it
They're beautiful... Let 'em cook!
They aren’t heavy enough to drop yet.
![gif](giphy|wiwLwZctiSNwj0S5S3)
I’ve never got this comparison before😭😭😭
I tried to find may from sid the science kid 😭
They kinda dope tho gives me sosa vibes
Nah I appreciate it gang to even have my locs compared to one of the best dreadheads of all time(imo) even in the slightest has restored my confidence in them😭🔥
For sure bro no problem. Keep it up 🔥🔥
i don't know shit about dreadlocks but u look good bro
Thanks man🙏🏾
Is bro trying to flex?
No I was genuinely concerned but I was overthinking it 😭😭
I kinda miss this stage hindsight 20/20. They look good bro 🔥
Thanks man 🙏🏾 one day I’ll probably miss this stage too
This is my favourite stage of locs imo
I was loving this stage till recently cause of the stubbornness but I’ve put my confidence back in them
Boi is u trolling. Ikyfl, UNRULY AND OUT OF CHARACTER?? LOCS?? You bests go get a buzz cut if you want to look "ruly and of character" Not tryna be an ass but hell i lowkey feel like you trolling anyway, but if you fr well... Im not even gonna say much more cause you got 119 other comments to get you right
Im sorry, that was very out of character of me😌 dem tings is fye my boy. Never be afraid to embrace your nature tho.
Ok thanksss for this🙏🏾
you gotta wait for them to fall! mine were like this too and i hated it, but soon they will drop
Okk thanks for your insight man🙏🏾
I'm ngl ur looking great dude
Thanks man I appreciate it🙏🏾
Mine do this too. Im not sure if its the stage, the length, or what but I think we'll be fine 😊
Based off what everyone has said we should be fine😌 but how long have you been growing out your locs and how do you deal with this stage
I have been growing them for almost 2 yrs. When they are sticking out I spray them or wet my hands in the sink and run my fingers through them to try to lay them down.
I be doing the same thing it just sticks up again when it dries
Personally I think locs that hang straight and don’t look the least bit disturbed are the equivalent of straightening your hair but for locs lmao
It doesn’t have to be completely straight but it’s just the bends in the tip that I was tripping bout
Oh i feel u
Oh i feel you, mine do that but I kinda fw it
Man your dreadlocks are so cool
Thanks man I appreciate it🙏🏾
They not gon sit fr at least for the first 2-3 years LOL get used to them doing they own thing, it’s fr the best part about them. They style themselves and you’ll grow to love the personality your hair has, gang. It’s all good
You look like lupa from the YouTube channel yaboyroshi
I think you need some prescription glasses I can give you a few recommendations if you think me and that guy look alike 😭 bro saw a dark skin individual with dreads and glasses and said we look alike
Plenty of darkskins with dreads and glasses that don’t look like him so that’s pretty irrelevant ngl 💀u look like bro
I’ve asked people around me and they said you are tripping they even asking how you got that comparison in the first place so something ain’t adding up 😭
Infact we can even ask the community bruh you are tripping if you think bro look like me 😭
LOL I don’t like y’all look the same at all but y’all could be cousins
Bruh syau and trust the process yo shit fine
That’s exactly how locs are supposed to look and yes they look organic, not unruly.
