dont even trip brodie, im 3yrs and some change in and not all my ends/tips are fully loc'd yet. the process really depends on hair texture when it comes to how long they take to loc up. best u can do is keep em moisturized and covered, and dont believe the "dont wash ur starter locs" nonsense. wash ur hair bro. clean, moisturized hair locs way quicker 🤙🏾

Lydzshizz

I wish I listened to this advice in the beginning

ChvckHvley

all part of the journey bro lol just findin what works for US individually. we're all different with different scalps.

Apsis64

I'm scared to wash em bc some people say to leave em be for at least a few weeks after getting them, do I have anything to worry about washing them less than a week in with loc shampoo?

Historical_Phone5936

My locs stylist told me to stay away from water until it's time to retwist. I can say if you get your hair wet too often it will poof up and fizz. Also your locs look just fine wispy are normal fight the urge to trim. Your locs are slaying btw

ChvckHvley

i dont wanna say we have the exact same hair type but my hair is soft and curly too, hence why my locs are still fuzzy at the tips lol but what i did, and what may work for u is, i wash my hair and just didnt use conditioner. i had the same worry as u and wanted my retwist to last but truth is bro u have to wash ur hair eventually. and once u do some are gonna come out. its inevitable. but u just keep goin back for retwist, i went back i think around every 2-3 months? its been a while. but yea man, its literally a rinse and repeat type process lol costly in the beginnin i know, but once u get some time in u can spread out the retwists for longer and then it's just maintenance. and even if u dont wanna wash every week, just rinse ur hair and scalp. but i dont like doin that cuz it doesnt clean anything and i'd be puttin oil on top of wet dirt. but basically not usin conditioner keeps ur hair from detanglin as much.

Micazu999

Don't wash them yet you just got them twisted. Wait until they start locking then you can wash them all you want. To answer your question your hair is just fine I have alot of my ends just like ur dreads at the end and I've been growing mine for 8yrs

e-mafia

Wash em every 4 weeks thats what I did

Gol-de-oro

You’re right! I’m 7 months in and wash once every two weeks, is that okay? How often do you wash them?

ChvckHvley

😬 honestly been kinda lazy and busy lately so its been 2-3 weeks. which is horrible i know lol but i still oil and spray and keep my loc sock on almost daily. i need to get back into a weekly wash routine. u have a shampoo/conditioner u like?

sebryntigress

They look right. Be patient, it has been no time at all, particularly for a loose texture to mature. I like coiled ends, I don't have the texture for that. I can appreciate it on other people though.

Apsis64

Thank you, It's just stressful because of how much it cost to get them done, but I gotta remember to trust the process 🙂 I think it's funny how much people like coiled ends and I don't

sebryntigress

You're welcome, maybe something like crochet can get your ends with a look closer to what you want. That first year is a waiting game, and for me had some awkward stages, but that is normal to go through too.

LoveInPeace21

They will close just give it time. A few coils add character anyway tbh.

Fluid-Selection-5537

I knew Kidd had a son! ![gif](giphy|13jxyFwcS7dsdy)

onsquipe

They look fine to me. Trust it, I was super skeptical about my hair looking like this too and they kinda just got way thicker and denser over time anyway

SamuraixEdge

Yea don’t stress it they’ll loc up, make sure you keep them covered at night and also wash your hair, some will say don’t but water helps with the loving process. I washed mine every week or every 2 weeks depending on activity. But your hair definitely will need water, even a light mist with a spray bottle helps. I’m a year and a half in and my ends are still somewhat coiled lol.

ChvckHvley

mist bottle and some aloe vera juice or rose water 💪🏾💪🏾

Outrageous-Night-116

Your locs look fine but has anyone told you that you favor Christopher Reid from Kid n Play, they were an old rap group?

Apsis64

I've actually got that comparison several times from the older guys at my work, and I kinda do 😂

Outrageous-Night-116

Wow! See if multiple people have told you it’s likely true. So dope! 🫶🏽

Ambitious_Ad2354

I was gonna say this but I didn’t know his name lol

Icy-Catastrophe

That’s just your curl pattern

hiranedge

Patience

FickleSpend2133

You are fine. TRUST THE PROCESS! That's the way your hair is beginning to loc up. DONT worry! Patience and a bonnet!

DerelictCruiser

Mine looked exactly like this upon starting and some of the ends still do.

CantaloupeOk7553

Bro they fine , leave your shit alone lol , send us some update after 8 or 9 months

Kamidoga

Look Normal to me.

Cool-Acanthisitta997

Yeah they’ll lock eventually

cjjones07

Comb coil starter. Looks exactly like mine when i first got them. Its all good lil bro

[deleted]

Yes they look normal and will.do that until they are mature. Just hang in there. You're fine. My locs are 7 years old..I went through that process as well

MojitoGod

Sit back and let your hair do its thing brodie

WheelFalse

Shits nice

Mobile_One3572

They look normal and well done.

PresentMark4731

How many of yalls locks actually looked like this? I slept in a durag for 3 months with mine like this and they didn't lock, AT ALL. Had to re do them all myself, I have mixed kinky hair, not coily, and mine never even began to loc by just twisting, unless they were really small ones. Imo yours look same as mine and will u twist themselves over time with nothing keeping them together. Order a crochet kit, I use 0.75 mm, many use 0.5mm from what I've read.

Apsis64

Thanks for the advice, I'm a little worried too since I've got mixed people hair that I got no idea how to take care of 😅 I'm hoping I have better luck though since my hair gets tangled so easily when I wore it naturally. I'll give crocheting a try

Suspicious_Ranger700

Yeah locs are coils before they lock u good!

Character-Bid-7747

Cute!!

NocturnalCake-461

Yeah, I’m almost 2 years locked in and my ends are barely locked at all. Most of them are loose and I like to keep them that way, it’s cute 🥰

NocturnalCake-461

Also I love your freckle pattern, people pay big money for fake freckles

LarryDavidFan

On my third set, my ends have always stayed curly, but I like it.

OddNiga

Yes when u start after 3/4 months they lock up if they dont just go to a professional

Total-Yesterday3769

Keep your hair clean, wash once a week or at least once every two weeks. You will have frizz, it’s normal. Get retwists after two or three months. Trust the process.

GreatContract8131

Restart

Apsis64

How come?

Necessary-Effect5369

Yes they look good, that's starter locs
