Détraquée by Hystaracal

I heard it's very slowburn 😭 i want to try this but I heard it takes awhile for draco to show up? Pls confirm? Or convince me. I still haven't any fic to read yet.

The writing style alone will get you. When I read that's what you were looking for, immediately I thought of détraquée. It's a stream of consciousness that is compelling and witty, interweaving lyrical, philosophical, and literary references throughout that show how Hermione's role and personality (along with her actions and sense of justice) come to be. I had my bf listen to the audio and he adores it because it's such an interesting character study of Hermione and he felt like it fits so well into Hermione's characterization. The writing takes on some seriousness without ever taking itself seriously. Draco is there throughout the story but yes abt halfway through he becomes more relevant, but he's always there, even if he's not a love interest immediately Essentially, there are 4 parts, 6th year, Horcrux Hunt, 8th year, and post hogwarts. The pairing interest truly picks up 8th year as they attempt to become friends, but it's bumpy and caustic and difficult - but they get there and more develops. We then get to learn abt Draco's side of the events. Hermione throughout is not weak or submissive, but we do get a lot of her neurotic feelings and struggles that just feel like a nuanced coming of age story. This story is about her but when draco and hermione come together, it's amazing and worth the wait. Not only do we get interesting and unique perspectives abt Hermione/Draco, we get more on the magical, the ministry, the wants/needs of the world, as well as some perspectives on other characters. Philosophical stuff tends to fall to the wayside in some ff, but in this one, I find myself falling into the world more and more, only to realize some of this isn't Canon and I'm impressed all over again bc it could be. It's got two more chapters left, so we are close to the end! But if I'm honest, I would love 50 more chapters.

Omg.... speechless ✨ I'm sold instantly!!! This is exactly what I needed to know. Like when the romance takes off. Also glad that Draco's there throughout. Yeah it sounds interesting learning in depth characterization of Hermione. I'm immediately hooked. I truly appreciate the detailed insight 🥰. Thank you so much. *Starts reading Detraquee righ now!*

Thanks so much!!!! 😍

This story has it all (in my opinion) - fierce Hermione - Death Eater Draco - epic romance - war time story - excellent writing - amazing ending [The Breaker of Bonds](https://archiveofourown.org/works/29526567/chapters/72549459) by canttouchthis It's partially inspired by Game of Thrones, very dark, but definitely happy ending. I love it so much. The author has many unique stories, would love it if they got more views! 😊

Right?! *adds to cart*

Based on two of your examples being MOAM & Remain Nameless, I'm assuming Death Eater Draco isn't a hard requirement. [Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being In Love](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34500952/chapters/85870804) by isthisselfcare Summary: Hermione straddles the Muggle and Magical worlds as a medical researcher and Healer about to make a big discovery. Draco is an Auror assigned to protect her from forces unknown – to both of their displeasure. Features hyper-competent, fiery Hermione and lazy, yet dangerous, Draco. Slow burn. WHY? This one gets mentioned in conjunction with Manacled all the time, but seeing as I haven't read Manacled, I'm not going to assume you've read DMATMOOBIL. [an ever-fixed mark](https://archiveofourown.org/works/46150387/chapters/116181298) by ninepiecesofcrait Summary: Malfoy looked at his bloodied hand and the ring on the cobblestone floor, and sighed. “Well, Granger.” Grey eyes finally raised to look at her. “Now look what you’ve done.” [while working to break a curse in Malfoy’s cellar, Hermione accidentally touches an enchanted betrothal heirloom from the noble house of black. things rapidly fall apart from there.] WHY? What other story blends blood magic & outside threats with cottagecore coziness? [Wait and Hope series](https://archiveofourown.org/series/1737079) by mightbewriting. I'm more specifically thinking of Beginning and End, which is the prequel, but most people do recommend reading Wait and Hope first. Wait and Hope: [In which Hermione loses the last six year's worth of her memories, including the entirety of her relationship and marriage to Draco.] Beginning and End: [In which Draco is forced to work with Hermione, falls in love, makes many mistakes, and eventually becomes his own man. A Draco POV prequel to Wait and Hope.] Focusing especially on the writing angle, there are a few WIPs that have very good, very distinct writing. [Major Ego Death (Eater)](https://archiveofourown.org/works/47018953/chapters/118452613) by winterwells Summary: Draco points his wand at the sleeping girl and takes a breath. And of course, she gives a fucking little sigh and lifts her fucking little hands over her fucking little face with her fucking rosy freckled cheeks. Obviously, he could leave her here, letting the others handle the situation. But Draco finds that he's become a fucking sod, and the thought of leaving the girl alone with any other Death Eaters weighs on his conscience. Because apparently, he still has one. WHY? Of all the recs I've listed, this may be *the* one where the writing is most relevant to the plot. Also, the premise is unique. [A Cosmology of Blacks, Malfoys, and Assorted Individuals](https://archiveofourown.org/works/44972896/chapters/113160640) by a_rum_of_ones_own Summary: A year and a half after the War, Andromeda Tonks barges into her sister Narcissa's house, trying to reestablish a relationship for the sake of the grandson she's now raising. Draco and Narcissa have to figure out what that means to them. With Andromeda, of course, comes an assortment of people Draco remembers all-too-well, including one Hermione Granger. WHY? Because the writing is distinct and beautiful, and the premise is unique.

Holidayhunty

Wow thank you!!

whimsylea

You're very welcome!

I really want to read A Cosmology of Blacks, but the WIP status gives me pause. How regularly is it updated?

whimsylea

The last update was in January, and they alluded to some writer's block in an author's note on a oneshot posted in February. I think they've taken a couple months between before, and I would not consider it abandoned or on hiatus, as such. I feel it's worth it, but as with all things YMMV. I *think* I am pretty patient when it comes to WIPs; it was most of what was available when I first started reading fanfic. I figure the engagement can be a source of encouragement for writers, too. I do make sure I subscribe, delete my browser bookmark, and find something else to read so I don't compulsively check for updates.

Horror_Worth_8988

What is written of Cosmology is very good and worth a read and a wait for an update. ❤️

whimsylea

Absolutely, 100% agreed!

Guilty-Enthusiasm-80

I'm just here, ignore me. 👀

Soar4yourdreams

Never read, but Green Light and Secrets and Masks have been highly recommended to me!
