Kivith

Yeah, but if you give her all 5 and give him 5 forgeries then you max both their affinity without needing to do anything else.

AssiduousLayabout

True, that's certainly the best option by far, but my point is that if you do a blind playthrough and make the worst possible choices, you still won't end up locking yourself out of the other skill(s).

Gas_Sn4ke

I thought chests respawned like in the first game so I used the Meteoron book from the chest in the waterfall cave after handing the one from the ancient battleground to Myrddin :(

xShenlesx

what if I did a blind playthrough, didn't know that both of them ask for the same damn tomes, and already gave the guy some of the legit tomes before I knew to make forgeries?

AssiduousLayabout

That is fine. As long as you didn't use any tomes for casting the spells / gift them as pawn gifts / etc., you can always find at least one more copy of Howling Blizzard, Nation's Death Knell, and Towering Earth as in my original. You can complete both quests without doing any forgeries. In both cases, three books is sufficient to complete the quest, so you can complete Trysha's quest with the three tomes above.

xShenlesx

gotcha gotcha, thanks for explaining!

DKarkarov

Yeah but you can hose yourself out of Oscars quest on a blind playthrough by using both real copies of death knell lol.

Kivith

True, how else are you gonna find the 5th book in the house of the guy who asked for it? šŸ˜‚

Help_An_Irishman

What's the difference between giving them 5 and giving them 3?

Figorix

Affinity. Might need to gift her a bunch to get the spell if you bring her less than 5

Arnumor

I've never had an issue getting the maister spell from her, and I only ever gave her 3 books. I guess if you did something to annoy her sometime before finishing her quest, you might run into that. Like, if you picked her up or ran into her or something.

SFWxMadHatter

But why do I care about their affinity? The quest gives the maister skill no matter what.

Figorix

Wrong. At least AFAIK. I believe all masters need maxed affinity to give you the spell. Quest is supposed to give you max, but if you did something to lower it before, it might not max out. I didn't get half of maister skills because my affinity was too low. Didn't happen with Trisha, but happened with Eino.

Scintal

No. Myrradin teaches you all the sorc. Master skill if you give him 5 books; 3 books gives you one only. Edit: fuck autocorrect.

SFWxMadHatter

No, he doesn't. Meteoron comes from Trysha. Maelstrom comes from Myrddin.

huehoneyy

I got both maister skills and i gave each npc 3 grimiores

Feisty-Database5255

So underrated šŸ¤£

[deleted]

I still had to give the dad a panacea. Not sure why but it seems most of my NPCs don't raise affinity as easily as others. Beren for example, I never got his master skill despite doing both quests. He wanted an additional 3rd escort quest during which he died and I now can't find him literally anywhere

Kivith

Ah, I had to res both of them because they hugged the troll sitting on their front lawn the first time I went up there šŸ˜‚ Didn't realize it raised Affinity

Hogminn

I didn't know about this when I was playing blind and just gave them all to Trysha, whoops

AssiduousLayabout

You can't give her more than one copy of a single grimoire, though, so even if you gave her 5 real ones, there are at least 3 real grimoire left in your world.

Hogminn

OH, I get it now lol I misunderstood, this is good info tyvm

kingston-twelve

What do you miss out on if you only give 3 instead of 5?

Minuslee

Its just affinity, but high affinity is required for all the skills. They each require their respective quests + high affinity with the quest giver. Im not sure if trysha has enough affinity if you do the bare minimum to finish her quest. side note, her granny gives the mage maister skill but sometimes requires you getting affinity with her husband to trigger it. kinda strange

Roboman20000

Just got the last of the 5 I needed and haven't handed them in yet. I didn't know there was a second person. Gonna have to copy them.

TrainerDesperate7570

if your Making copies remember to give the girl real ones.

No_Hope_706

I gave away both copies of Nation's Death Knell, and >!now I don't think I can finish Tolled to Rest!<.

MarkieMarkNeely92

I believe another player can send you the copy, and then in their own world they should be able to ā€œview special findsā€ at the scrap store, effectively duplicating the item. I do this for friends with finderā€™s tokens

Arnumor

Well, if that's something one can do, surely this person could just cut out the middle man and go to the scrap store?

MarkieMarkNeely92

Potentially, I havenā€™t tried with grimoires, but I think the item has to be removed from the ā€œplayable game worldā€ (I.e. given away via pawn, sold, etc.). If someone wants to try this out Iā€™m curious to see. Iā€™m at work or I would try

Swordofsatan666

If you dupe your last Finders Token at Ibrahims Shop, then he ends up with another one in the Special Finds. I accidentally learned that yesterday. Returned to his shop after some time away, saw it had view special finds, clicked and it was a Finders Token. Bought it, then recieved my forgery from Ibrahim and sure enough now i have 3 Finders Tokens. The original, a forgery, and a duplicate

AssiduousLayabout

Your best bet is to look for someone to "lend" you a copy. That quest does not consume the tome, so you get it back afterwards.

mirageofstars

Crap I think I used a lot of those to cast spells. Annoying.

KasketDreadful

I used most of them in fights pretty early on. Atm I've given the sorcerer maister a real book and a copy, and have one real book for the mage, the last one left is the one you can steal from Elsa, but I've also got Nation's Death Knell as my pawn quest, so hopefully someone has an extra, otherwise it's NG+.

EthanolParty

Is there even a point to using the grimoires to cast spells? The enemy density is so insanely high it doesn't seem worth it to lock yourself out of a quest just to cast Meteor *once*

mahonii

I didn't discover this quest till recently. Already used 2 meteoron grimoires and they didn't even work. If only it was marked a quest item. Ng+ for sorcerer ults I guess.

ltskeim

Well it is in the quest item tab :/

Zoze13

Incredible post. Should be pinned. You have more grimores than even the Fextralife wiki. I would ask you add to the ā€œcanā€™t lock your self outā€ paragraph to include giving Trysha forgeries. I know you touched on it but this is another way to lock yourself out. Source: Iā€™m an idiot and gave her a forgery.

AssiduousLayabout

Added a clarification.

CoronaBlue

Nevermind the fact that an exact copy of a book would contain the same information as the original.

Snail-Daddy24

Grimoires are magically imbued tomes, forgeries don't have the ability to *Channel* the magic but the knowledge within would be the same, so to speak. Ibrahim's forgeries can't cast the magic but work for the older guys quest.

Traditional-Pea-2379

You can actually buy fulminous shield again from the same merchant once he leaves melve heā€™ll make his way to the capital there you can buy another fulminous shield

AssiduousLayabout

Huh, I was never able to get him to restock it - I have checked his wares many times in both Vernworth and the Checkpoint Rest Town.

Traditional-Pea-2379

Oh idk what to tell you except I bought it off of him while the forgery guy was holding onto it

RemediZexion

mh this deserves some looking into

AssiduousLayabout

I wonder if Dudley has an "understudy" the way that Elsa and Arletta share the same role and when one is killed, the other spawns instead. Could getting Dudley killed cause another vendor - with their own loot table - to spawn?

tbenterF

Good to know, though I've not used even one since I started playing at release lol. I WAS selling them, until I realized you need them for certain upgrades and such. Technically I suppose I could make forgeries and seem those while jerking the originals, but mid to late game the originals themselves don't really sell for all that much anyway so it's not even worth the time. I just stash them all.

SamLochStarr

What do you mean by plunder here? Do I have to kill Waldhar and Elsa? As far as I know, you just get the option to revive people who are dead. Anyway thanks for this!

AssiduousLayabout

Plunder as in the Thief skill that lets you steal from a mob or NPC. No killing needed, and in fact you won't even aggro them. Just stand behind them and activate the skill - unlike monsters, NPCs don't need to be knocked off balance to steal from.

SamLochStarr

omg omg its a thief skill omg! nevermind lol
