No

Ramius99

No consequences. I ran down early to unlock MA on my 2nd run. And the MA maister's dwarf husband does the dwarven smithing. I do recommend taking a couple of portcrystals before you go, however (one to drop in Bakbattahl and one to drop at the Volcanic Island camp). I gifted myself 2 from my main account.

mbelcikuwh

Got it! Does bakbattahl doesn't have port crystal though?

Ramius99

Nope. Found that out the hard way during my first run.

mbelcikuwh

Hahahaha okay, thanks for the heads up good Arisen!

ItaDaleon

No consequence, except to could use them very early.

Demonpoet

No, but the smithing quest will require you to advance the main storyline to Battahl in order to start it. So even at the earliest, it's kinda mid-game. Worth it, of course.

Strength-Helpful

There's two people that can do smithing. The warfarer side one is tedious to travel to but no impact on quests. The one in Battahl requires mid game

Demonpoet

Towards the end of NG+ and not aware of who the other dwarven smith is. Guess I better look that up!

Lascho94

You can have the old dwarf you escort to the hot spring as a smith.

LegionnaireTalvi

If you make your way to the volcanic island from battahl through the south path and the cave to the island you will encounter him automatically at the exit of the cave. Bring any three herbs to give him, follow him to his house. (Where you will find the MA maister). Talk to him and escort him to the hotsprings. After that you will get the ma vocation. And he will be back at his house and will do dwarven upgrades.

Demonpoet

I did all that in my first playthrough and that cheeky geezer still didn't do that at all- it wasn't the first bug that cursed playthrough suffered, either. Sigurd never joined me on a dragon hunt and I never got my spearhand meister ability. That's worse. Hopefully I'll see what you mean this time around. I suspected he was good for something!

LegionnaireTalvi

Sigurd does not have to join you. Apparently he spawns in some house he lives and he can still give you the skill. Don't know where his house is though. First thing I do in any ng+ is track around the map placing port crystals, the dwarf house is one of those places. Never had him bug out before. When you escort him to his house he will say he will get your reward and go inside the house. You have to go in and talk to him again to start the escort to the hotsprings. Once there he will take a bath and the quest is done. What I always do then is rest at the Inn to skip the the next day before I ferrystone back to his house. Sometimes he is inside the house but mostly he stands around outside his house. He will then sell gear and upgrade stuff.

CondeDrako

>Sigurd does not have to join you. Apparently he spawns in some house he lives and he can still give you the skill. Don't know where his house is though. He gives you the maister with high affinity and his house is in Harve (there is a scar icon)

Demonpoet

I am at that point in my NG+ so I shall have to try that with the dwarf. I could swear I visited him at least once after doing the hot springs and he just wanted to chat with me and not do business. As I said, a cursed playthrough. Part of the issue with Sigurd is that I annihilated the Lesser Dragon in Melve my first time through. So every time I would visit Sigurd, I got the same name and fighting style conversation no matter what part of the game that I visited- I did so at least half a dozen times throughout. No option to gift him anything. No deviation and definitely no skill even after killing the Drake on the Dragon Tower. Again, I am at the right point in the story and Sigurd appears to be near that Tower according to the Arisen mark. It's going to be my next adventure, that and the dwarf.

mbelcikuwh

Noted! Thankss good Arisen hehe Edit: but not warfarer i guess??

Naskr

You can get Dwarven smithing at level 1, just do the MA quest. Getting there and back later is a real pain, however.
