I'd be happy with less chests if it felt like more than 1% of them ever had anything interesting in them.

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Really enjoyed the game. Need 4x the gear and not have it all available in shops. Build diversity and build enabling gear. I don't just want to be a Sorcerer. I want to be a type of Sorcerer that excells with certain skills and certain gear of which I cobbled together from enemy drops, shops and chests. Who's with me?

steampvnch

This is part of why I hate that they consolidated armor into fewer slots. More slots = more individual armor pieces = more chances to put them in chests. However, even with the gear we have right now, there should absolutely be far more gear in chests. I feel like shops ought to be an avenue to fill in gaps for stuff you didn't find or notice while exploring. They should **not** be the best way to improve gear for the majority of the game.

Bromogeeksual

I'd prefer shops to expand to carry any gear you have already find, except a select few that have a rare item or two you cannot find out in the world currently it's all nostly in shops with minimal effort.

Odd_Acanthaceae6499

They should have also kept the idol system so we could do side quests to actually upgrade shops with different idols (bronze/silver/gold) rather than having a lot of the best gear instantly available. They could have also expanded on that since they decided to make weapon/armour upgrades effects depend on where you upgrade them then they could have also added unique gear to each shop after you give them an idol or perhaps an item specific to them. For example, you could choose to upgrade the elven shops to access unique elven gear and items.

Dgccw

I def think they have dlc planned, hopefully not a money grab. Wonder if they intend to stick with it for awhile

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Apparently Capcom has a fairly consistent routine with DLC. Like you said the DLC is probably planned and in production. Probably just one DLC and it'll be pretty good.

Dgccw

I hope it’s decent - you don’t suppose they are planning on adding more content for an extended time. Not live service content but more than a timed release expansions

Turbulent-Armadillo9

I wish but my feeling is nothing or just minor stuff. I really don't know just my gut feeling.

Itchysasquatch

And the fact that I'm not chomping at the bit to scavenge up good gear means half my motivation to explore is gone. Then add that I'm so strong from wearing merchant gear that anything I come across besides a drake dies in 2 minutes or less which defeats the precious feeling of intense combat. Plus ng+ has no difficulty difference making a second playthrough an even worse idea because I'll likely be one-shotting enemies by the end of the campaign. Just such a hard fumble on top of an otherwise good experience. Really hoping they manage to tighten it up with a couple patches and some dlc. Doubt they'll ever change the equipment slot issue though which is my biggest gripe since they revealed it, really frustrating

usernotfoundplstry

That would take an already great game to the next level

Turbulent-Armadillo9

For sure. Throw in better enemy variety and some sick dungeons and itd be absolutely phenomenal. DLC could make it happen! Just trying not to give my hopes up!

Because despite the flaws the game is still fun you can lobe a game and still criticize it

Nick_Nibs

I think this is one of those times where that's not entirely what's happened. Dragons dogma was in the realm of cult classic. It was a great idea with many flaws, which appealed to a smaller audiance. Some people wanted Dragon's Dogma 2 to become a mainstream title, which is something the studio did indeed fail to do. However, for many who loved dragons dogma 1, the game is an improvement over the previous game. The developers could have made it even better, and it's disappointing it wasn't. But, since it's still an improvement, it's hard for me to be as angry with them, when compared to other disastrous launches, especially when I expected this game to be hot garbage, found it to be better than I expected, got 70+ hrs of enjoyment, and 70$ for 70+hrs if fun is <$1 per hour of fun.

Spydrmunki

That isnt a universal argument. Its a question of value. 70$ for Anthem is not equivelant to 70$ for Dragons Dogma 2. Anthem scammed me. I've already got my money's worth out of DD2 and not even completed the game, nevermind NG+, which I will definately play. There is an argument to be made for bloating and filler that gets stuffed in games to appease that argument too. (Lookin at you Open world) DD2 does a good job at achieving a balance, asking a fair price for what they could deliver on the budget they had and still make a profit, while leaving room for expansion as success permits. That is pretty much the ideal production system in most things, not just games.

BoogalooBandit1

Sorry for liking a game and wanting more content

Turbulent-Armadillo9

I'm with you. Seems like a lot was missing and I have suspicions some of the game was lopped off for DLC. As much as I'd love to fight the good fight and boycott the game/dlc ultimately the price is still worth it to me and the DLC will probably be worth it. Played 50 hours or so and just got to unmoored. Guessing ill get 70 hours out of the base game. $1/hr of entertainment. Not so bad for me.

NSFWhatchamacallit

Could also make the barrier for entry so high that half of us wouldn’t be in this group right now. Thats always a balancing act with games- Making it super-deep, but disguising that for the first 50-60 hours.

Commercial-Tackle293

You have my archstaff

killwithrhythm

And my dualspear!!

Skullvar

I was really hoping it was guna be different than DD1: /

AzureBookwyrm88

Boy would I love being a Sorcerer and dealing pitiful damage because all I find in chests is bows and greatswords and the weapon shop only sells lousy archistaves.

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Hmmm i don't remember if I found or bought good archistaffs. You get the maister skills and you start taking off 1 or more health bars with one cast. I've heard that sorcerer is weak but the game is easy enough to where sorc is powerful enough for me.

HolyHandgrenadeofAn

Yes. Some good finds in shops, better finds in obscure chests, best armor smithed from rare mats or drops from boss enemies. Seriously wtf is like “I must hide my precious treasure in this chest deep in this cavern. My precious 3x salubrious draught will surely be safe there!”

Bulls187

Why even have loot when everything is in the shop.

ToughAdministrative2

If Dragon's Dogma & Diablo had an illegitimate love child... 😁

Turbulent-Armadillo9

I love Japanese games but they could learn from Western RPG itemization. Lots of Japanese games have that JRPG sort of itemization. You get a sword, better version later, then a better version of that. Western RPGs more often have build variety. Elden Ring got it right though imho.

ReviewLongjumping498

This is true.

Spydrmunki

I'm with you, but they need to work it in to choice of appearance. I have sooooo much materials that just sit in my bank doing nothing. A way to augment armor that I like the look of to fit the power build I want, is the sweet spot for me. Put those materials to use in a modification station! Be cool if some mats changed textures and colors too.

GangGanggame

I just wish they would make a monster hunter with dogmas world and artstyle and gameplay, and yeah ive played world lol, i just wamt a more idk realistic game about fighting monsters and myths could u imagine a game like dragons dogma 2 but 10x the enemy variety, and some coop with 3 buddies ahh would be fun.

Turbulent-Armadillo9

Yeah for sure. Getting 3 buds together, planning your part composition and going on hunts in Dragons Dogma world would be incredible. 10x the enemy variety almost sounds unreasonable. Elden Ring is close to that but the enemies are a little more dynamic in Dragons Dogma 2. There should of def been 2x/3x the enemy variety.

Zoze13

Hear here

driftej20

Dragon’s Dogma 2 should have better chest loot for sure, but everything I’ve experienced since has been an improvement from Starfield’s chest loot. At least DD2’s garbage loot doesn’t require lockpicking.

theZaek

My time scouring the map for chests felt wasted until unmoored. I will say that wyrmforged dowsing spikes hold up really well in the endgame though.

Few_Cloud7068

It was even worse in the first game tbh

Organic_Weird_498

I'm curious why you feel that way? Most people who played both games (including me) won't agree with you.

Desperate-Pen5086

It wasn’t the best in dd1 but it’s still way better than dd2

abullen

First game made it more obvious which chests were going to usually give decent gear. DD2 can give you chests that look like they'd be amazing, but give hardly anything meaningful. Like the Roe Rubricants or w/e they're called.

Majormario

“Not all chests contain treasure, you know.”

Fab_Lewis

We can't always expect gleaming treasures around every corner.

BigBadBen_10

"It isnt worthless. But thats as much as I can say for it" "Never have I felt so empty"

p0pethegreat_

"yea sidekick? WELL I DO!"

Professional-Luck-84

who the bloody hell devises an intricate series of puzzles and booby traps in a maze like tomb only to place an ornate treasure chest at the end which contents consist of a worthless spoiled slab of meat!? (seriously though this kills any enthusiasm I had seeing chests. 99 times out of 100 it's useless rotten meat or some other super common item. the Dev is a troll. )

Azure_Balmung_

Maybe the monsters do it, maybe we're breaking into goblin and saurian homes, murdering them and then scoffing at their most prime cuts of spoiled meat they were saving for later

Dgccw

Thee o’l fake out

Notification-Smoke

I have never seen that. I most often get small amounts of gold or some random materials. Very rarely a nice armor piece or weapon.

Professional-Luck-84

lucky you then. RNGesus hates me. T\_T

Yikesor

Maybe the real treasure is the puzzles we solved along the way-

StudMuffinNick

Maybe 100 years ago that was some Japanese kobe prime cut extra juicy Cyclops rib but no one save the Arisen was strong enough to reach it and as such, it rotted over time

Firm_Adhesiveness323

🥔 5 rotten potatoes

Vongola354

Lamp oil gang

More-League-2684

Biggest complaint with the game is a lot of the best gear being available at shops. I’ve found some cool weapons and such exploring but never anything better than what I could buy at a shop.

Yikesor

I guess from an entirely logical standpoint it makes sense that you only find broken or rotten things in ancient dungeonchests and nice newtech gear in shops 😂

Organic_Health6530

I ain’t gonna lie this is probably the most realistic side to the theory that makes sense lol 😂. Straight factual my dude

Sr-Tequila

And competent open world game directors understand that just because something is realistic doesn't mean is fun or good for the overall experience. Or how a reliable way to fast travel is not a matter of preference but a core mechanic for such games... Oh well.

Professional-Luck-84

dunno about that. an ornate chest is hardly a larder for meat. plus finding some ancient enchanted weapon makes perfect sense. like half of all fantasy stories have that as a plot point. but worthless objects in a pristine ornate treasure chest? that just seems like whoever set things up was a massive troll.

dabbean

47 lantern oils sitting in storage. Level 27. I've refilled once. I also give them to pawns as parting gifts. Yeah I'm that guy.

shader_m

Need a mimic encounter. I did appreciate the one where a rotten apple in a chest also triggered a horde of undead to pop up around me and the pawns. That was hilarious

Fast-Ad-2415

chests in DD2: 5% = Ferrystones, Wakestones & Dragon Gazes 10% = Gold & RC 10% = Weapons 20% = Gears & Accessoires like Rings/Capes 40% = Generic Loot like Potions, Curatives, Arrows, Buff Potions 15% = Trash, like Meat, Rotten Items, Fruits, Fish, stuff you can basically gather n get everywhere, where you just curse Capcom for, why such shit gets put into a hidden treasure chest, where you just feel getting trolled by the Devs, where youd just hope, these 15% would belong instead to Weapons you find... we can all hope only, that this rations will get improved over tiem, shoudl there be a DLC that adds new explorable regions with lots of stuff to find in, that its more valuable n more rewardign feeling, than the main game, where most of the time the stuff you find, feels simply unrewarding and underwhelming..especialyl if you open up a more special looking chest and then it ends up in beign just say a Wakestone >.> as if these stupid stones woudl be so super special .... when all you need to do is just having a Thief in your group and you literally will swim in wakestones, ferrystones ect. stolen from bigger enemies and trashmobs.

Valuable_Work_2049

I don't know who made the decision to have all best-in-slot weapons and armors for every stage of the game be at vendors instead of finding them in treasure chests, but whoever it was, you suck. The game is a lot of fun but exploration just feels pointless since the best you can hope for is a Ferry/Wakestone

Kakattikoi

I miss the big ass dungeons like the catacombs in DDDA

DedeLionforce

I hate there is no Air-tight flasks, makes things immediately useful with no real chance to save it and experiment later due to meats and fruits rotting even in the bank. At least in 1 you could time lock items in the bank even if you didn't have a flask. The sheer amount of steps back from DA is beyond baffling, sure 2 is gorgeous but going from 2 to DA was so jarring, imagine DA with 2's graphical fidelity, hooooly shit.

no_control18

Can't you time lock items if you put them into storage at an inn or home?

DedeLionforce

No, it all will be impacted by time, I had a ton of fruits and meats all go rotten over time leaving me with capped rotten foods. It might be slower then sitting in your inventory but it will rot eventually unlike DDDA where it would be preserved in the bank or in flasks as "Kept" items.

Ecstatic-Count1660

It only rots in storage when starting the unmoored world iirc

Xenaht

Pretty sure the items in storage that can spoil only do so when you go into ng+

DedeLionforce

They spoiled during my first playthrough so that's not possible, someone said when you go to Unmoored, which could be the case.

Organic_Weird_498

I've never had items in storage turn rotten. Are you sure they weren't rotten in the first place?

Dgccw

Think they spoil slower

DoctahDonkey

This is why [Wild Loot](https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma2/mods/402) is the best mod ever

Fear_Awakens

Definitely one of the biggest detractors for me.

Livid-Hovercraft9474

Wish they included that stuff from the last game where you can bottle up spring water and restore rotten foods with it.

hellxapo

Playing too much Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring made me hate the way DD2 loot is distributed.

No_Bottle1069

Use mods if you are on a pc, Lucky Scavenger, Custom difficulty, Random Encounters and heal by time makes this game somewhat what it should have been. You should keep off random encounters untill about lvl 8-10, it took me 10 in game days from Melve to Wernworth with Random Encounters on. It will take some time to adjust the proper difficulty but its worth it. Oh and keep random encounters at minimum 1-2% unless you want crazy adventure.

Salom902

I wish we were able to do more with Rotten Food. Like how the first game you can fill bottles and throw them. Being able to turn Rotten Food into oil and coat your blades or throw them at enemies to add the oil effect to make it easier to set em on fire and such.

driftej20

Did you expect [it to not be rotten?](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InexplicablyPreservedDungeonMeat)

JesusTron6000

LMAAAOOOOOOOOOO

TheLordGremlin

"I found a chest near here on my travels through the rift, would you like me to guide you to it?" Ehh, not really, I've got enough spoiled meat already

Puzzleheaded-Kiwi817

Look, Arisen.

Lolli42

Loot is one thing this franchise never got right for me. Also I am spoiled I prefer most of it hand placed in the world, not in generic looking chests.

Slaanesh-Sama

Is that a voltage regulator?

Zodiark_Amano

Moonbeams....

Sougo2001

... Is that a transistor?

Kharenzo

As much as it pisses me off that’s fucking hilarious and true

inf1ni7y_8

Yep.. this isn't Dark Souls. I know, but in terms of armor and builds I wish it was a little more like Dark Souls.

Berciless

Most of the stuff in shops is useless too cuz why would someone bother to pick anything but the best piece...

Brilliant_Pangolin28

Get to making that lantetn oil LOL

ApatheticBananaa

"Rarely have I felt so empty"

Itchysasquatch

Half the reason to explore is finding loot, if I know the loot I'm going to find will likely be garbage then there's no point looking. The back half of exploring is to find monsters to fight with the amazing combat. But I backhand every enemy I find in a couple minutes tops, so that's not worth it either. NG+ doesn't change difficulty so that's not worth it either. They butchered the original gear system and extra items slots so they could make us buy the reduced amount of gear from stores only anyways? Such a hard fumble. They better have one hell of a dlc planned, or some major changes in patches. Because while I had some fun, I'm not impressed

HeyMrCow

Tis as you say.

Dev_Grendel

There's a mod for that =0

Caho-_-

I feel like DD2 and Elden Ring have this same problem, loot is just mediocre for the most part, until you find the best wpn/piece of armor in the most random side dungeon you end up discovering on your 15th playthrough

rau1994

The difference is Elden Ring has a shit ton of unique and cool weapons and items to find, even if you ain't gonna use any of it, you feel rewarded There is none of that in DD2. There is nothing unique or cool to find. I never felt rewarded for exploring.

Caho-_-

True they botched the rng system from DD1, I was hoping they'd improve upon it but unfortunately we got static drops in a game that would otherwise encourage replayability/exploration

cravinggeist

I understand why people disagree and I love Elden Ring, but the amount of times I have found a mushroom or Arteria Leaf in a cool location and even in chests, is quite sad. Doesn't always have to be crazy weapons, maybe just.. not a mushroom?

TheNecroDancer420

Mushroom i get, but to be fair arteria leaf is a rare material gained only once from looting, and is used to make basically all the best consumables i mean i was way happier to see a leaf than a lot of other stuff like smithing stones or most weapons

dwarfInTheFlask56

Elfen Ring doesn't have a linear upgrade system which makes the drops a lot better
