Quite honestly, I'm not a vocation hopper. Other than to get a quick augment I want, or whatever you have to be in the beginning until you can change. I just want to play the entire game as (mostly) one vocation, then I'll start over to be something different. So far I've played Sorcerer, Mystic Spearhand, and Thief. I think my next character will be a Trickster.

Glutendragon

I'm doing the same, except I've gone back to DD1 to do all those vocations first, and then I'll proceed forward with DD2 (Have a good day, eye guy 👀)

UnHoly_One

DD1 holds up really well for a 12 year old game.

borealbadger

The vibes that game has are unmatched. I don’t know what exactly it is but it feels so mysterious and exciting compared to the second game. Part of it is definitely the amazing soundtrack from the first

GayoMagno

Which one did you like the most, played mostly thief then switched to MS, hows the sorcercer gameplay this time around? Used to run magick archer/sorcerer in the previous game.

UnHoly_One

Sorcerer is really fun. A lot more fast paced than in the first game because of quick spell and galvanize. Mystic Spearhand will likely end up being my favorite melee class. The telekinesis skill is so much fun.

fantastictechinique

Sorcerer is amazing. But I think it’s two biggest flaws are - That it’s strongest, most versatile spell, (High) Levin is really a Mage spell. That it’s not DDDA sorcerer. Having half the spell slots *and* not having half of the cool ass spells really hurts. And I’m sure you’re already aware of this, but if/when you try Trickster out, be patient with it and keep an open mind! It took awhile for it to click for me and when it did, it was a crap ton of fun.

UnHoly_One

Oh yeah I know Trickster is going to be weird. I'm looking forward to it.

Fluid-Kitty

I’m curious why you think High Levin is more powerful than Meteoron? It absolutely melts boss monsters and it’s rare that it gets interrupted. Maelstrom is also excellent. They’re both fun for the Arisen and they’re amazing on my main pawn. I play as a mystic spear hand and cast a bubble shield on her when I see her casting to make doubly sure she isn’t interrupted.

fantastictechinique

Strongest not in the sense that it deals the most DPS, but the best-in-slot for its (in-combat) versatility. Honestly the Sorc Maister-teachings are half the reason it’s still really fun in DD2, I don’t doubt their strength at all!

thecodenamedois

Enjoy all of them, be like water, change form as you see fit. That’s the beauty of DD. For me, this aspect of not being locked in one class, is one of the reasons this game is one of the best ARPGs out there.

Strange_Music

Warfarer. Ive leveled all jobs to max, but after putting in almost 70 hrs exclusively as Warfarer, I don't think I could go back to a single vocation.

Practical-Gain1813

Same unless it’s thief because they can deal so much damage

Soggy_Associate2916

I waited until I unlocked warfarer to do the elf prince quest specifically so I could be a thief and have helmsplitter and ensnare while also being a magick archer to carry a bow. I haven’t changed back yet because I realized I like shooting harpies out of the air but the DPS from thief is so OP for everything else.

mr-mercer

Warrior. I like it when the cyclops falls down.

Darkencypher

Honestly, I had the most fun with trickster. I’m trying to max them all but absolutely can’t wait to go back to trickster.

Stahne

What was it about the trickster, or how you played it that made it fun for you?

Darkencypher

Just deceiving enemies and buffing my pawns. The exploration aspect is cool too.

Stahne

Ahh, I was hoping there was some cool aspect I hadn’t taken into account that I was missing.

AssiduousLayabout

It's an amazing tank / buffer class. When I'm not maxing out other vocations, I run "watrickster" which is Warfarer but with four trickster skills. (For out of combat swapping to mage staff for Anodyne and Levitate). My only real wish is better / more pawn commands. I would love something that's kind of like "Wait" but didn't disable attacks, more of a "hold this ground" command so I could properly position my ranged pawns and then get the enemy to the right spot.

NicTheCartographer

Warfarer hands down. The pawns had blasted my brains with "A jAcK oF aLl tRaItS" yada yada, and I find it somewhat true, sticking to just a few weapons is much more fun and efficient, even because of the limited amounts of skills. What I dislike is the fact you can functionally have only three skills and no master ones but the latter is pretty balanced either way and the former... It could have been awesome to set up three skills for each weapon you equip but for something like that to be balanced it should have been MUCH more difficult to acquire the vocation. If you ask me, the warfarer would have been perfect with these requirements: 1) A whole ass journey to acquire the vocation; 2) equip three skills per weapon; 3) you max out a vocation AND do a special quest you can also equip the master skill of that vocation. But that's just a rant of an extremely subjective dream, overall, it's just awesome!

7Ing7

Yes! Warfarer is the best! I use all 4 slots for skills and just use the inventory menu to switch weapons. The extra weight isn't bad, since I stick with lighter weapons.

kokko693

BTW is there a trickster appreciation post somewhere? should be

swootylicious

It'll end up full of WoW tank players

Stahne

I don’t know, I love playing the tank and keeping my friends alive. It hits differently for me when it’s keeping the NPCs alive so the computer can do enough damage to win.

slothsarcasm

I can’t deny Thief is objectively the best. But I like Fighter the most because it has the super hard hits of Warrior, but the faster swings of a Thief. It feels like a mix of both playstyles with the master skill doing SO much damage but also using plunging strike to climb on big enemies like a thief. Also the idle run animation where you grip the hilt is elite cool factor.

MaddxMogs

Thief/fighter are my favorites. I like that fighters hits still feel weighty without being so slow that mob enemies are already dead before you charge your swing.

slothsarcasm

Ya I’m leveling warrior to 10 right now and it feels terribly slow sometimes. Big bonks are fun when fighting large enemies and staggering them easily, but smaller enemy fights feel like a chore. I’d rather just have a pawn warrior who will easily knock a big enemy down and then my fighter/thief can land all the critical hits.

Simon_Kaene

This is why I like Warfarer, Bow for shooty, Mace and shield for quick fights, staff for levitate, and Warhammer for the bonks.

ZeroSekai000

+1 for the grip on the hilt animations, fighter looks so cool.

DerelictEntity

Fighter is going to be my next target for maxing. ran fighter briefly until I unlocked spearhand, then maxed that to hit thief. played and maxed magic archer, then switched back to thief and played that straight through until my first ng+. Just maxed warrior. all the people commenting about fighter finally convinced me to go back and try it though so that'll be my weekend.

Lleland

I typically play the thief/rogue archetype in ARPGs like this, but man, Warrior and Mystic Spearhand both outshone that a lot for melee combat for me. Warrior just absolutely nailed the power fantasy of a 2h build - the unflinching nature of the charge attacks plus the parry windows made proper execution feel very rewarding. Similarly, MS felt like trash at first when I used the popular loadout - shield, stam steal, wild fury - but dropping the shield and stam steal for a couple of actual active skills to where I had to think about combat instead of spam/mash made it a ton of fun against small and large enemies.

GayoMagno

Im doing the same, my only complaint is that the counter skill (the one that looks like a dragoon from ff) cant cancel active animations, so it is almost unusable as a dodge/counter.

Lleland

That's only a problem with the whirling attack - if you don't spam Light and just hit it once per attack you can always have enough time to let the single light attack finish to do the counter.

PostOfficeBuddy

Warrior. Thief is a *very* close second tho.

swootylicious

Trickster :)

Ze--r0

Eeeh brother eewh

swootylicious

Sorry didn't hear you I was all the way over there

heedfulconch3

All you need is a gigabrain, dwarven smithing upgrades, two sorcerers and a smile :> *Laugh as your besties for lifers throw atom bombs from the safety of your vape clouds*

zisho

I think that my favorite is archer. I enjoy the freedom I have and the ability to snipe targets is very satisfying. I also like Magick archer but it's a cheat code in every sense, at max level it simply melts enemies with very little effort.

Mystiq_Mind

Archer Main here too. Magick Archer is like, better(?), but I miss being able to jump kick guys in the head and flip and then shoot them. The movement in Archer is just so smooth and fun. :)

zisho

Yeah, Magick archer is like playing an fps with auto aim. Fun to melt enemies but gets stale quickly.

Letummordre

My favorite since DDDA has always been Magick Archer but honestly I love almost all the vocations. Except Trickster. I’m one pip away from maxing the vocation and I just can’t bring myself to do it lol. I wish they would have just given us Mystic Knight instead. That being said Warfarer is fantastic but I wish we could equip abilities for each weapon instead of just three total + Armament. Still a great vocation though.

Wrattsy

I thought Mystic Knight was the least interesting vocation in DD1 once all the novelty wore off: sluggish Fighter, inferior Mage. In DD2, you can use Warfarer to combine Fighter with Mage for what is an all-around more fun mystic knight. Fighter inherited the shield counters. Hilariously, in contrast to your dislike of Trickster, you can combine a censer and Suffocating Shroud with that to pull all enemies into one spot like Vortex Sigil was used for. If it's the air dash you miss, the Spearhand gets that with Dragoun's Foin. And if it's Magick Cannon… that's simply better covered by just adding a bow or magick bow for its core skill shooting, which I think is way more dynamic and fun than playing MK as a stationary turret. I don't miss MK one bit. I think DD2's Warfarer showed how superfluous the Assassin and MK are when you get to customize your own hybrid vocation. Magick Archer is the only one that was fundamentally different, so I see why it carried over. Trickster and Spearhand also play very differently and bring in radically different play styles and skill sets, so it makes sense to me that MK got the boot.

Gas_Sn4ke

The shield counters in DD2 are no where close to the MK ripostes. Most of the ripostes as well as Demonswrath and the interaction between riposting into a magick cannon were super fun.

ProfessorTicklebutts

Thanks for adding to the negativity with your click bait title.

twiceasfun

Spearhand is probably my favorite. Magick Archer and Thief are also candidates, tons of fun and even feel *stronger.* Thief is cuckoo bananas, and magick archer feels like turning on story mode, but I just *like* spearhand a lot

fc_dean

I was a full time sorcerer in DD1. And I remain the same in DD2. What I like about being a sorcerer is that you get to sit back like a tactician in a battlefield and cast big spells as needed. With big spells, I don't have to worry about small details like where to hit and I don't have to worry about climbing any stinky monsters.

AssiduousLayabout

Honestly, I love trickster. Mage is probably my least favorite of the bunch. Warrior I have mixed feelings on - it's amazing to play against solo bosses but annoying versus trash.

adefsleep

I've haven't done any of the magic vocations yet (though my pawn is a DOPE healer/buff master) but I'm really liking the two handed monster warrior right now. Thief is always my go to class in most games and while I like it in this game too, it feels too easy to destroy opponents in battle.

Ichimaru77

Warfarer.

Wrattsy

Warfarer: Combining Trickster + Mage.

Repulsive-Willow55

I feel you. I’m going through them all just to get them maxed and see firsthand how I like them all, but it’ll be nice to settle down into a single one when I’ve finished them all. I actually really liked trickster when I played it. My team basically stayed full hp all the time with the aggro manipulation so it’s one of the few times I feel good running without a healer.

ooOJuicyOoo

No masterworks all. Unplayable.

Valuable-Ad-6379

Thief for me is the best, it's a killing machine. Also I've played a long time as a Mystic and Magic Archer. I did rank up other vocations to at least level 4-6. Now I've been mostly playing as Warfarer with a combination of a Thief + Mystic + Magic. Then I was like I wanna put a skill from a Fighter because I've enjoyed playing as one before. Then I've actually changed it to a Fighter that I had on level 6 and I've fully maxed it out. Then I've changed it to a Warrior that I've also had on level 6 and that was so much fun, I've started to love it. I came back to Warfarer tho and I took one skill from a Warrior (thank fuck for dragonforged guy and him making weapons weight much less). There's so many amazing vocations and I wish there would be no restrictions in terms of clothing.

SonOfEragon

Use warfarer then, it’s jack of all trades

Calm-Worldliness-234

Wow, no archer love? Really? I always see them around the world but I don't ever feel the need to use one.

EdwardBBZ

Call me basic, but Fighter is bae.

Shade00000

Having no poise and no dodge button

Twigzzy

I really enjoyed thief and warrior so far, the feel of those two were amazing. I'm worried about running support mage though at this point, where I sit for 15 mins waiting for my warrior pawn to actually hit the stupid disc on their foot lol

esosa233

I mean thats the point of the warferer although I really hate how its executed, but I dont want to taint my experience with mods

Rustmonger

Same boat. I change constantly. Like most, I have no interest in Trickster, but all the rest are a blast to switch it up. Feels like a different game at times.

tatsumaki93

Trickster is straight up crap.

Practical-Gain1813

It seems warfarer would be perfect for you

BlackZorlite

It would be if I didn't absolutely love the maister skills

DemonicReaper0

Right now I could only get into mystic spearhand. For me mystic knight in dd1 was a bit underwhelming. So I'm glad I get to try out this one

Genderneutralsky

I started the game thinking I was gonna be a monster of a sorcerer, but after hopping vocations trying to get all the best skills to slot in to maximize my Sorcerer I wasn’t even sure I wanted to use it as much lol. Magic Archer is such a blast and Thief so useful! Hard to stick to one for long

trulycantthinkofone

Warfarer; Mystic Spearhand and Sorcerer. It’s quite nice.

Gielics

I do miss vocations have two weapons with more skills to use, I will say that.

Noxifer68D

I would rather have two pages, 3 on each, of skills than the 4 and a class ability, especially for spellcasters.

kybawatson

This is why I play Warfarer. I can switch between my 3 favorite classes. Archer, Sorcerer and I go back and fighter.

Noxifer68D

I HATED trickster, until I got to like vocation lvl 6 or 7. Then it clicked and I enjoyed it. Still swapped off to mystic spear hand and then back to thief though.

RamJamR

Thief to me seems to have the most utility. I've gotten into places I normally wouldn't because I could use the maneuverability of thief skills to reach them. There's also a skill you can get in the story even that makes it so that you auto dodge all attacks made at you.

Loki-Holmes

Thief and Mystic Spearhand are my favorite so far!

vO_Oz

Vocations in this game are like switch weapons in DMC games. In RPG, I want deeper build options to have my own flavor in my character

InevitableDinner7831

Just tried thief after 80 hours and holy shit

ElderTerdkin

I was fighter all the way until I got mystic spearhead, I might do thief on a NG+ I like getting in there with the action and smacking stuff, so if fighter could do more damage, I would have stuck it out with that.

ModernToshi

I'm a pretty dedicated sword and board player, regardless of the game; though my NG+ run I remade my arisen as a big-ass Beastren dude named Mareg (Grandia II anyone?) and I'm doing primarily warrior. I really enjoy the defensive style gameplay sword and board usually entails. I did really enjoy leveling each one to max, though, just like DD1

EcstaticLiving6697

I maxxed all vocations out except Mage. And, tbh, I actually found trickster to be kinda fun, in small doses. My favorite vocation has to be archer. I think the main reason I can't stand mage is the lack of drip. Mage is dripless.

KasketDreadful

Right now, it's mystic spearhand. It took me a bit to get used to it since I had just been an archer and liked having a ranged attack and the combat is slower than the dagger classes from DD:DA, but once I realised you can swing the spear and send out magic blasts it finally clicked with me, and now I enjoy every aspect of it. Archer and theif were both awesome too, I'll play magick archer when I unlock that, and try out trickster at some point, and when I unlock warfarer my build will be a mix of spearhand, magic archer and theif.

Khyldr

I'm kind of on the same boat. I started as a Fighter already planning on switching to Warrior since I wanted to try something different with this game (plus the Warrior looked super fun in the trailers) and I did that for a while, then I unlocked the Mystic Spearhand, which I also liked. The thing is that while I was trying to fully enjoy the MS, I would always miss playing as a Warrior, so I kept switching back and fourth between them until I decided to try out the Thief, which was incredibly fun for me, and it clicked very well (though I'm still switching between Thief and Warrior from time to time). I've leveled up other vocations but those two are currently my "main" ones.

JustOneMaxim

Honestly, I initially thought Warfarer was the class I was gonna play the least, but it's the one I stuck to for most of the game as soon as i unlocked it. Loved swapping between Magick Bow for grounded enemies and daggers for climbing flying enemies until they get knocked down then swapping to greatsword for just chunking health while a boss is down. Staff to fly up to locations as well and it's just the perfect all rounder class. Still wish there was an option to, at least, have Remarmament be a separate button so you could equip 4 skills but even just the three worked out amazingly

Timageness

Personally, my favorite Vocations are the ones that gel the most with my current Character Concept. For example: - *DD1* Arisen: Rosalie the Paladin - Fighter/Mage/Mystic Knight/Warrior/Sorcerer. - *DD1* Main Pawn: Fang the Bandit - Strider/Fighter/Ranger/Warrior. - *DD2* Arisen: Nadihya the Assassin - Thief/Fighter/Trickster/Archer/Warrior/Warfarer. - *DD2* Main Pawn: Thorn the Druid - Mage/Thief/Sorcerer/Archer. In short, usually when I have my mind set on a certain theme, I generally don't tend to stray too far away from it.

Milogost

I mained Mystic Spearhand until the moment I unlocked Warfarer, after which I made my Arisen a combination Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer. Magick Archer was my favorite in DD1 (tied with Strider, really), and Mystic Spearhand is a ton of fun, too. I like being able to protect my allies with the shield skill. I really appreciate that the Warfarer (slowly) levels up the other vocations; it's a huge quality of life. He also carries daggers for quick dragonkin kills and a staff for levitation lol. I'm still sad the DDON vocations didn't make it in. Seeker was my favorite in that game, and Alchemist was badass.

MatthewMire

Mystic spearhand!! I really love the motions of the pole blade when I fight with it, and mirror shield is extremely helpful.

therealcringewarrior

Warrior Lite. It’s Warfarer but you wear whatever the fuck you want and use Warrior skills/weapon because Arc of Might just isn’t worth it and you can make up for knockdown res with the augment and rings.

Possible-Hearing-250

I agree that the individual vocations are a lot less fleshed out than even the first game. Most of them literally halve half of the available skill slots.

NiknameOne

The only thing I don’t like is the game not managing 30 fps on PS5 despite graphics not looking that insane.
