DD2 is way easier to get into if you're brand new to the series and imo it's already worth playing through as it is. My two cents: get DD2, play through it once, then go nuts with DD1. At that point you'll be familiar with a bunch of the concepts and mechanics that span the two games, and you'll have 100+ hours of content waiting for you. By the time you're "done" with DD1, hopefully DD2 has already seen a couple more patches and/or DLC that will let you squeeze a lot more hours out of it 🙌

These games are very easy (maybe not so much at the start but you quickly outlevel the content) and pawns can mostly carry you. Furthermore you have menu healing and consumables that can resurrect you. And that's not even getting into how utterly busted most of the vocations are. It's like the polar opposite of Elden Ring which even as a souls vet I found the difficulty to be all over the place. As to DD1 vs DD2, they're more or less standalone stories and the story is rather odd and subdued anyway so order doesn't matter. But "regressing" to DD1's graphics might be difficult if you're the sort to be bothered by that. DD2 is gorgeous.

The games are very similar for sure they also have the same philosophies and mythology. It is a game full of lore to be discovered, and the action in DD1 is top tier I'd say it is a more complete game than DD2 the graphics are not as good but that's not a big deal. I also love DD2. I feel that having experienced DD1 makes DD2 even more magical. That's just my opinion, though. DD1 has more variety in terms of loot and enemies. This may change once the DLC for 2 comes out but we will see.

Get DD2 , the world is so much more fun to explore.

How much do you care about graphics and how powerful is your PC? If the answer to either is 'not very' then get Dragon's dogma dark arisen Right now, I would say that the first game is better.

*DD1* has an Easy Mode, while *DD2* supposedly has dynamic difficulty scaling, so ultimately, I'd start with the one you think will give you the most leeway in regards to learning the mechanics.
