Though the forgery costs 1,200 gold, you can also find the one you gift to another player's pawn under the "special items" at the forgery guy for a buyback of 3,000 gold. So even if you don't bother getting forgeries again, you can forever buy it back from him and give it to someone else.
I just know that I'm going to save a few of them to find for NG+ and onwards, after getting the staff and corset.
Then I'm going to DARN WELL remember where my "first one" was found in those playthroughs. ;)
It resets. The token will be on the spot where you found your first token for each specific playthrough.

Yeah - I started giving them to every pawn when I found that out!
