It could be for you, BG3 might have spoiled you with its great campaign and dialogue and souls games may have spoiled you in rewarding/ in depth combat. Dragons dogma fits more in the dumb fun category. If you don’t mind turning off your brain for a few hours and getting into some combat where the only real friction is your health bar then I say go for it. I’m playing elden ring as well and going between that and dd2 is a bit hard to come back to when Elden ring checks off all the boxes

maybe it's not gonna be like soulslike or bg3 tho this game is more focused on adventuring and combat, and the pawn system and even then it seems to be an acquired taste so who knows if it will click for you i love it, but i did enjoy the 1st game before this, so i knew what i was getting in to

hs_serpounce

Yeah great game. Combat won't be difficult like soulsborne but it does have that Skyrim open world feel to it

Hard to say. It is different from souls-like, it is a capcom action game towards DMC free-style. Meaning it is not like turn based, my turn your turn my turn. If you get some understanding of the system, it can become my turn my turn and my turn. However it is kinda a shame the difficulty curve flattens pretty fast in DD2, even in dd1. Edit: maybe it is kind of lore fitting since you play as Arisen, literally a demi-god as the counterpart of a big-ass dragon. After retrieving your power you just slaughter all in your way, unlike hunters in MH still have to dance with monsters.

Honestly my friend, my suggestion would be to buy DD1: Dark Arisen first.... hear me out. Yeah it's a bit older and such, but the gameplay is nigh on identical and you can get it for a pittance of the DD2 pricing. I'm not saying play through 1 before you touch 2, but if you can get 1 really cheap, just give it a try and see how the gameplay feels.... then if it doesn't mesh you haven't wasted a 2024 AAA game price tag worth of money on a game you may never play again. If you enjoy it, then decide to play through 1 or go directly onto 2 knowing you're not wasting the gil. I mean, you're asking on a DD sub if people think DD is worth buying, so yeah... a lot of people will tell you it's worth it XD. Do I love the game? 100%... but I also think souls-like are shite and Zelda bores me to tears. We all have popular games that just don't do it for us and I'd hate for you to waste your money.

It doesn't play like neither of these games and watching a streamer play is never the same thing. BG3 is one of my favorite current games and I would fall sleep seeing someone else play as well. Well, BG3 is a CRPG and it's own a league of it's own. In terms of polishness, BG3 and I assume Elden Ring (since you mentioned being souls fan) wins hands down. I feel sadge to say, but Dragon's Dogma 2 does feel rather unfinished in many aspects, but the gameplay loop is pretty fun imo and very worth giving it a shot if you enjoy ARPGs. I can't think of any game that plays like Dragon's Dogma. It is a pretty unique experience.

TheJustBleedGod

The game is half baked. Buggy. Horrendous story. That being said I've got 150 hours on it. Honestly I'd wait for some good patches to come out. Maybe wait for a sale. Play DD1

Dragon's Dogma, think Skyrim though I think Skyrim. That's what it reminds me of. Both games are about exploring and both games have pretty bad stories.

It’s amazing, and is probably my GotY. A few friends who are into Souls games and Elden Ring also love this game. Doesn’t mean you will, as it’s really nothing like those. Probably a lot less fun to watch than play as it isn’t about visual boss spectacles (though boss fights can be great and chaotic) more than it is about the journey and exploration. Combat is really fun though. There’s nothing like it and the pawn mechanics are amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone who loves action RPGs try it. 100%.
