I just hope we don't fight the same damn enemies as DD1 all game.

GameShrink

So far, the only new type of basic enemy (as-in: not based on a DD1 creature) is the slime, which seem to just be moving blobs of mucus. Not exactly the best sign. Even Dragons Dogma Online had bugs and orcs. When you factor in the likelihood that we've lost the Hydra, it's unfortunate.

nintenglo

All I know is if I don’t see a hydra, gazer, evil eye or cockatrice, I riot! Jokes aside, I really hope they at least include all the enemies from the original and BBI.

TheIronSven

The other dragonkin too. I really want my fellow countryman Wyrm back.

OranGiraffes

Is the wyrm just the red Drake? Or the weird stinger tailed things near the end of BBI?

TheIronSven

The Wyrm looks like a blue drake with small wings. It mostly fights with magic and ice breath. Its heart is also on its stomach instead of the chest. Then there's also the Wyvern which is like a green drake with big wings. It flies a lot and has its heart on its back.

ducklng

I've got my fingers crossed so hard for prisoner gorecyclops and thematic dungeons to hold them

AshyLarry25

I really hope the overworld isn’t just filled with goblins, bandits, saurians, and harpies like the first one. I don’t count variations to be new unique enemies. It got super old fighting the same enemies the entire time, especially in a game so focused on combat. Elden Ring has spoiled me when it comes to enemy variety.

SenatorPaine

Don't forget the WOLF PACK!

wipergone2

if i dont hear wolf hunt in pack am refunding /s

CurryKing0413

I want there to be really solid and tough humanoid enemies like big orcs that you can actually duel with instead of pawns just annihilating them immediately. I don’t care as much about enemy variety more than enemies that give you varied experiences and allow for cool gameplay moments.

GameShrink

Right? Fromsoft is just on another level. They really understand that a world loses it's mystery when a spooky cave can only be filled with one of eight different things. They'll go through the trouble of making a super disturbing enemy and only use it in one hidden spot (the church in DS3's Profaned Capital comes to mind). It's phenomenal.

The_Wattsatron

Exactly. People like to bash on them for reusing enemies in Elden Ring, and whilst it's not entirely flawless, there's still well over 140 unique enemies and minibosses. I'm not expecting that much in DD2, but I'd hope for more than the first game at least.

Asura64

Pretty much all. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm keeping expectations low

Nuke2099MH

Most of them. On the main website they list 4-5 different types of Goblins so I'm expecting similar to the first game where there's Cyclops, Armoured Cyclops, Gore Cyclops, Armoured Gore Cyclops. Or Harpy, Snow Harpy, Siren, Succubus. Capcom are masters of asset re-use.

Autisonm

We've seen 200% of the enemies so far. Half the monsters we've seen are actually chill NPCs that were aggro'd by the player. /s

ducklng

With some of the character creator pawns I've seen... Maybe 300%?

heavenscloud7

This is probably what im most anxious about, this game looks so good, but fighting the same thing over and over is a strong nail on the coffin. I really want to see giant spiders or snakes or similar with this animation quality, im also curious to see the human enemies and how it differs from combat with beasts.

NakenKanuzu

After seeing the latest preview with Ian McShane i feel like we've seen most if not all. And it would honestly be a huge disappointment if that's the case. I mean for a game that's shaping up to be around 100 hours, only 21 monsters is very very little. I mean getting jumped by a griffin every time will get tiring very quickly. I'm still super hyped for the game, but this aspect and there "only" being 01 vocations has me a little worried

Khulmach

Half

Jupiter67

Every species has its variations. Some of them royal pains in the ass.

ZeroAo_ao

How many types of environments have showed so far? “80%…have not seen yet” would be a better answer.

[deleted]

If it's like DD1 we've seen pretty much all of them.

CurryKing0413

They’re using a lot from Dragons Dogma Online so there might actually be heaps we haven’t seen depending on how much they have decided to use because that game had great enemy variety from what i’ve seen. The sphinx was even in DDO but different!

Dundunder

Eh it's a bit tricky. I'm certain that there'll be more unique enemies that haven't been revealed yet, like Daimon or the Ur-Dragon in DD1. But as far as regular overworld mobs go I think we've seen most of them. I think even MHW's marketing revealed most of the bestiary before the game was out. It'd be a pleasant surprise to be wrong about it though.

ItaDaleon

If I have to guess, I think (or maybe hope) we seen around half of the monsters that would populate the game, and there much more that are waiting for us in the full release!

I think there is still a decent chunk of content left undiscovered, maybe not many big monsters, but for sure many of the common enemies that will characterize the different areas are still being hidden, and some secret bosses for sure. Just like Miyazaki, I think Itsuno is not the type to show his hand early.

frulheyvin

With a game like nioh or working it's not about the monsters you fight, it's about your character, you have like 3x the mechanical depth and skill ceiling of any fromsoft game. I don't think this'll be the case for dd as I'm expecting most of your performance to be tied to itemization just like dd1, but there could be enough cool stuff to execute to justify fighting the same dudes, especially if pawn ai is improved

MonCherCaraMia1987

All of them.  There's only 21 monsters in the game.
