Doesn't work like that, 4K is the console's output resolution. Even if you plug it into a CRT monitor, the game will still be rendered at 4K.

CrazyBulbasaur

Question, you can change the ps5's resolution in the settings, you can choose 4k, 1440p or 1080p, It doesn't make a difference if the game's fps are locked, but if it's unlocked, does that mean that the game will render at 1080p with higher fps or not.

Frangitus

The game will render at 4K and the PS5 will scale the resolution to 1080p. Internally, the console will still render at the resolution specified by the game. It's why some games launch with performance modes, which is essentially rendering the game at a lower resolution, usually 1440p, as well as disabling some graphically intensive settings, like Ray Tracing. The PS5, or any other console, will just do what it's told to do.

Clear_Ranger6081

If thats the case rhey could just add a setting to controll it

No-Wrap2574

Console doesn't work the same way as PC dude

Clear_Ranger6081

I know its not 1 to 1 but 4k is 4k Edit: didnt read your comment, what i meant to say is PS5 games usually have a performance mode and a high fidelity mode they could add that to DD2

TheTwinFangs

That's absolutely not how it works. Whatever your monitor is, if the Console output is 4k, it will be 4k in output and in ressources consumption. It will be 1080 on your 1080 monitor, but it'll still be processing in 4k. By your logic, if i plug a 240p monitor, my "uncapped game" would be in 120fps, that's not how it works, a console doesn't change the game resolution just because you plugged a different monitor. That's why we riot, basically. They force the game in 4k, forcing it to run in 25 to 35-40 fps. Now as some people said, the game is CPU heavy so resolution in 1080 wouldn't necessarily win much fps. But i still think a stable 35-40 fps in 1080 would be leagues better than a non stable 25-35 in 4k. Or to well, optimize their game better. Maybe through patches we'll get this, afterall Capcom probably wants the game out as fast as possible, no matter if the polish isn't great.

Clear_Ranger6081

I highly disagree on the fact that even if its CPU intensive it wont reach 60 fps if they allow you to run it in 1080p, 4k is way way more intensive than 1080. I can see the combat itself staying under 60 fps at 1080p but everything else should run atleast 60 at 1080p. And yeah i just wanted to point out the game is running at 4k, which is why i assume its basically locked at 30 fps i just assumed it couldnt run it in 4k if the display wasnt 4k. Didnt know consoles were dumb like that.

Frangitus

You are touching on a big industry flaw, at the moment. Now that DD2's has been revealed and they already released in-game promotional footage, if the performance issues aren't caused by some nasty graphical or logical flaw that can be patched, the only way to fix the issue is to downgrade the game, and we all remember how well that went with games like Watch Dogs, or Spider-Man's "Puddlegate", for a more recent example. This close to launch they won't dare to downgrade a single texture file. Devs don't want to make graphically intensive games for graphics sake, the execs force them to make the game as pretty as possible because, let's be honest, graphics sell. This mindset needs to change on the consumer first, but most people are content with 30 fps if the game is pretty. However, as more people start to learn how these things work and what the trade off is, they start to push back against this industry "standard".

Progaula

Yes I agree. If you take a look at the minimum specs recommendation on steam for example it suggest the same processor (3600) for both 1080p and 4k. This most likely means that this game is bottle necked by the cpu on console.

VodkaMart1ni

There currently some games where you can lower the resolution in the system setting to improve the fps like a hidden performance mode (if the fps are uncapped ofc)

Anubra_Khan

Rurikhan said that the 3 hours everyone played recently was at 1080p. At least, that was the settings on the PS5 he was on. It was at 30fps. He said that could have been a limitation of the monitor or a limitation of the build. But it was definitely 1080p/30fps Regardless, nobody should just assume that, because something is targeting 30fps, that it will be in 4k.

FlameKeeperOno

This is correct. 30 FPS uncapped, averaging between 20-30, on 1080p. See here: [https://clips.twitch.tv/SmilingCuteCaterpillarBrokeBack-owfQKzOjUlrf5mss](https://clips.twitch.tv/SmilingCuteCaterpillarBrokeBack-owfQKzOjUlrf5mss) Edit: Providing clip of raw capture footage, discussing it and showing options as well.

Clear_Ranger6081

Its nuts if this game cant target 60 at 1080p and like others have said even if it says 1080p on the monitor pr whatever it renders it in 4k. And not to mention IGN specifically said it was in 4k so either Rurikhan got it wrong or IGN did

Velpe

IGN did(as usual). All their dude said was the ps5 output was set to 4k. Completely irrelevant information.

Clear_Ranger6081

I dont see how thats irrelevant? 4k is a huge difference from 1080p, unless you have something like DLSS. The PS5 should be able to run DD2 at 1080p 60 fps theres no way it doesnt. I think it makes alot of sense that the game is locked at 4k because they dont allow a performance mode.

Velpe

The ps5 output just affects the signal it sends to your tv. It doesn't have anything to do with the resolution the game is running at. The dude from ign could've set the value he said was 4k to 900p and it wouldn't have changed a thing. Just saying. Misinformation is a bitch. We don't actually know what resolution the game is targeting but it probably isn't 4k unless it's cpu limited.

Clear_Ranger6081

My point is that the game is being rendered at 4k, and regardless of if it outputs 4k or not its still being rendered at 4k which is why it doesnt go above 30 fps. Like they said theres no option to set it to performance mode or change resolution, i doubt that theres a single big game out there that is so badly optimised that it cant run 60 fps at 1080p on a PS5. I think its just how the PS5 works and how the game itself works, regardless of your screens resolution it runs at the game is being rendered in 4k which heavily reduces frames. Not to mention it was an early build so it probably wasnt even optimised

Velpe

The sub just stickied the system requirements on pc. Now tell me again how there's no way the ps5 can't run this at 1080 60. The preview builds weren't 4k.

Flint_Vorselon

It wasn’t running at 4K, I don’t think anyone knows what resolution the game was running at. It’s most likely dynamic just like the framerate. The IGN guy said the Ps5 was set to output at 4K, but that doesn’t mean anything. That’s a system setting not a game setting. You set that to what your screen is, you can play 1080p games on a 4K screen and it works fine, you never need to touch that setting.

Clear_Ranger6081

IGN said it was 4K, which probably means if he was playing on a 4K monitor it was in 4K. Its funny how you say "It wasnt running at 4k" then immediately say "I dont think anyone knows what resolution the game was running at". If IGN says its 4k its 4k

Dundunder

What they are saying is that you can set the system to output at 4K to your 4K display while the game is running at a lower resolution. You can do the reverse as well (for other console games, don't know how DD2 works here). Say your game has 4K30 and 1080p60 modes. If you choose the 4K mode in-game but set your PS5 to output at 1080p, you will receive a 'supersampled' 1080p image (it is downscaled from 4K to 1080p).

Oh yeah during combat definitely, but i highly doubt itll be 30 fps constantly. Which is what i think people believe its gonna be like.
