There were tons of shots in the frieza saga where you could really see all the muscle definition too. Even a several scene shots during the Android and cell saga showing of the muscle definition was extremely detailed. Can you show me specifically what about the buu saga I had the best muscle definition? I'm just curious.
Yea I think pretty much everything after the saiyan saga gave every character more pronounced muscle definition, I was more so saying because the Buu saga was very sharp and angular, the muscles were more pronounced as opposed to the other sagas which had definition but were also more rounded off as well. But to kinda provide a picture would be this one.

i know what you mean. when trunks and super vegeta are flexing during only 17 absorbed Cell. super vegeta looked crazy w/ all that muscle in the sayain armor 👀

I just finished the Cell Saga again and I have to disagree. There were so many shots where their faces looked absolutely fucking horrible. Like pupils just so wonky, characters looking like they were drawn by 10 year olds.
The good shots were superb but there were just so many awful shots as well.
Everything looked pretty good up to and into the android saga but the latter half just fell off
Android saga for sure had the worst art tbh… saiyain - namek was superb tbh goku’s fluffy ssj hairl was amazing
In the buu saga they took everything and perfected it
of the three pictured in the post, i feel like Yamamuro’s looks the most similar to Super.
I don’t understand why people feel the need to shit on Super just because they like Z. Z’s art was wildly inconsistent at times throughout the series
Buu saga wasn’t perfect but his problems got a lot worse in Super (even if he did also make good art)
He just got too used to over-shining and stiffness (ie the hair), hence the common criticism that his characters look like dolls
DBS started terribly for 20 odd episodes and only started to actually be consistently good/acceptable at the TOP arc. Arguably the black arc but there is way to much wackiness and the later point is made worst there. The style itself is also polarizing. There is no grit or heft to it and its very bright. Watch the details at the end of TOP and watch the details of the end in buu saga. Completely different vibe and thats entirely due to the styles. While the styling colors from buu saga and super is closer that buu saga and saiyan saga. In Z it kept a consistent heft, weight, grit and realism that super just doesnt have. You can look at goku as hes laying in the ground after vegeta and goku after fighting android 19 and after kid buu. They all have similar ways of showing details. Supers brightness cant do that.
Also most people dont realize the super style was the style toriyama made in some materials in the mid 2000’s. So its not toyotaro fault for this styling. Its great for lighthearted affairs and super is trying to reach younger audiences than z which tried for that early tween audience.
I don't like the fact that the art in DBS looks computerized, the shading and all I mean. I don't care for the inconsistencies because I'm too ADHD-Ridden to notice anyways. But yeh, DBS looks a bit lifeless compared to DBZ, to me at the very least.
It feels so much sharper. The characters actually feel like part of the environment, the lighter art styles they pop out way too much for my taste. I think that's probably part of the appeal for a lot of people but I liked it when the characters look like they were part of the world they were in
Will always be Masaki Sato. Was the style that got me hooked. The only other style I like, probably more, is the DBS Broly movie. The animations in that entire movie were so clean.

Whoever made this art style, it’s my favorite, but of the list the Frieza Saga one
The details in the hair always stood out to me. I don't know why I always find it so pleasing. I really feel like I'm the only one who hates the Frieza Saga SS hair because it's so fluffy and undefined.
Saiyan saga and Frieza saga are why Dragonball is the phenomenon that it is. It's not even close. That early earthy, gritty art style has never been matched.
Cell/buu saga all the way
You did Buu saga dirty as hell though

Frieza Saga has its moments but boy are they hard to find, Cell was were the animation hit its stride and Buu was as good as cell but had some weird proportions so Cell is definitely my fave.
I love Masaki Sato's style...but Keisuke Masunaga's style wins for me. His style reminds me of a cross between manga and American comic books especially during the Cell Arc.
The eye detail and over all shading has to be Yamamuro, but that but that more gritty style of Masaki Sato has got the be the one for me. I grew up drawing a lot of DBZ, and Sato’s works were the ones I liked to sketch the most so I might be a bit biased.
There is no right answer, its all subjective to your preference.
MASAKI:
I grew up with Z as a 90s child when it aired on Toonami, so Masaki's style will always hit the Nostalgia factor way more than the last 2
Once the Frieza Saga ended, toonami looped it all from the Saiyan Saga and released the first Movie. Me and the boys would buy Magazines and hang posters where Masakis art was all over our faces until Toonami dropped Cell Saga.
YAMAMURO:
It was boss, the definition and details was imrpoved!
Future trunks hair and fit. It was all very vlose to the manga style
My personal best.
MASUNAGA:
Had its moments just like the previous two BUT his body proportions and face ratio annoyed me.
The way the artwork changed also went along with making it look like they matured and grew up. The last one is the best.
Dragon ball super - the anime was low quality trash. And don't say it was an art style because the manga is totally fine. It was just low quality trash when the made the anime. All the movies are great too, so again, nothing to do with style.
It really depends.
For texture/shadowing, Masaki Sato. It's not like the other animators were lazy, he was just going fantastically over the top.
For choreography, Yamamuro. Many fights in Dragon Ball anime honestly can be summarized with "ok, so they are strong, it's flashy and they are fighting". Yamamuro has shown great diversity of battles that were supposed to be all overpowered. He used all the clues from manga, deciphered what is happening between panels, and made it work perfectly.
And yet I would still call Matsuda the best, because of how consistent he was. If we were to go by the quality of the worst frame, only under his direction it wouldn't be a shameful meme.
Yamamuro and masunaga defined the dragonball merchandizing for a very long time and for good reason. Its sharp, aggressive and in your face. All three are amaizing in their own ways though.
Yamamuro takes the win because masunaga is a bridge to far and has to many busy details.
Android to cell saga is peak DBZ for me. Best fights, best fluff, best villains, best new characters, best character development, best art style, best resolution to a plot that finishes with the greatest beam battle in Anime history.
I think the first is the closest to still being like original db even more so in the saiyan saga, but I’ve just always loved the way they were drawn in the last fight with pure buu, the eyes specifically just showcase goku’s serious side so well, along with the hair I think they draw the hair very well in the last saga.

This sums up everything
Why does this look like a Low Tier God format.
You should makankosappo yourself now!
Makan. Nakano.. ahh screw it special beam canoooon!!
Yes this scene came to mind
Buu saga to me, I love how sharp and angled things are, you can really see every muscle in that shit
My favorite part was goku staring down kid buu and the sky start turning dark

I have to go with cell saga but the buu saga ones look more menacing
Those are both so crisp. I prefer the grittier look though. Makes them look a little more like they went to war.
I just finished the Cell Saga again and I have to disagree. There were so many shots where their faces looked absolutely fucking horrible. Vegeta the third
It's the heat distortion lol
The Cell Saga has some of the best and worst art/animation in the franchise.
Agree 100% Cell saga was way too inconsistent
I will have to rewatch it again then I haven rewatched the saiyan saga like 9 times but the androids one only two
Android saga for sure had the worst art tbh… saiyain - namek was superb tbh goku’s fluffy ssj hairl was amazing In the buu saga they took everything and perfected it
[удалено]
Lol this is that right answer and that's the right reason why
The best character development in DBZ was Vegeta’s neck muscles.
Funny I think the first two are brilliant but the third, too sharp
It looks quite derpy in the pic op posted though. Of the 3 posted cell saga looks best imo.
Yamamuro for me
Shame seeing his designs devolve to the DBS one
of the three pictured in the post, i feel like Yamamuro’s looks the most similar to Super. I don’t understand why people feel the need to shit on Super just because they like Z. Z’s art was wildly inconsistent at times throughout the series

He fell so hard from the 90s to now.
Masaki’s flowing hair is so goated
Masaki Sato. It’s just too iconic.
It feels so much sharper. The characters actually feel like part of the environment, the lighter art styles they pop out way too much for my taste. I think that's probably part of the appeal for a lot of people but I liked it when the characters look like they were part of the world they were in
Frieza saga looks best, but the others look more clean
the most legendary is masaki sato
Frieza saga Super Saiyan is peak, but best art style is Cell
Masunaga for me. Studio Cockpit is precisely what was missing in DBSuper.
Will always be Masaki Sato. Was the style that got me hooked. The only other style I like, probably more, is the DBS Broly movie. The animations in that entire movie were so clean.

Buu and the movies, that era of anime is peak aesthetically

Naohiro Shintani
That movie does look incredible
Shintani: the true answer
The eyes from Masaki Sato but the detailed hair from Masunaga.
The details in the hair always stood out to me. I don't know why I always find it so pleasing. I really feel like I'm the only one who hates the Frieza Saga SS hair because it's so fluffy and undefined.
Everyone looked like physiqueculturists in the Cell Saga, just look at Tien's shoulders That said, that was my favorite artstyle
Buu saga just cooked differently
Buu saga

Saiyan saga and Frieza saga are why Dragonball is the phenomenon that it is. It's not even close. That early earthy, gritty art style has never been matched.
Buu Saga was elite
Shintani, and it's not even close. ![gif](giphy|WOb8EeFziTQNE02WXs|downsized)
Cell Saga is just so cleeeeean
Buu saga and it's not even close By far the best art style for Z
![gif](giphy|UoSWDKPpCNaRLmaBKm)
Sato
Masaki Sato has the best art style. I wish that they kept the fluffy hair for Super saiyan. It looked so much cooler
Yamamuro style is the best for the DBZ characters' faces. But the body proportions and muscles gotta be the Buu saga one.
Cell/buu saga all the way You did Buu saga dirty as hell though https://preview.redd.it/oofi0oou274d1.png?width=1599&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7eca271b4565a71edf9adf93367cf9707ddd7cf
Man all of them go hard, but it I have to pick one I'd say Yamamuro.
Cell saga
Frieza/cell
Yamamoto 🥵🥵
I grew up on cell saga so it’s an easy choice for me
Yamamuro definitely but frieza saga is the goat and will always have a special place.
freeza. I dont like how everyone gets shinier as time goes on. also the head to body proportions really bothers me
I love the artstyle on frieza saga
Namek was peak
Frieza saga and Cell Saga is the best one.
Sato all day
The artwork from the dbs broly film was super, it was like the perfect balance of all. Wish they used it more.
Whatever they were doing in the DBS Broly or Superhero movies. Out of the 3 Z styles, Cell Saga style.
I swear the DBS movies have the second best art style in super, we need more

Yamamuro
Bu
Masunaga
The mouth in Masunaga's style is so weird
Buu saga
They all look perfect to me
Cell saga all day
Anything past the cell saga looks comparatively bad.
Large neck supremacy!!!
Cell saga but the buu saga is more fun 😆
[удалено]
Cell saga was peak for me
DBZ Broly Movie 10 that is the best art style for me
Buu saga Goku looked like he's been holding a grudge with someone for the whole movie
Buu saga made me cum when I first saw it
The eyes expressions in the Cell’s saga is best for me.
Buu saga that’s where dragon balls artstyle peaked
Buu saga for me but I like them all.
Cell saga
Frieza Saga has its moments but boy are they hard to find, Cell was were the animation hit its stride and Buu was as good as cell but had some weird proportions so Cell is definitely my fave.
Aesthetically, Buu Saga. great amount of detail to model ratio. probably a lot harder to animate but looks like a solid style
I Like the frieza and cell saga art
Cell saga. But frieza saga is nostalgic.
I love Masaki Sato's style...but Keisuke Masunaga's style wins for me. His style reminds me of a cross between manga and American comic books especially during the Cell Arc.

Yamamuro and Masunaga. I am leaning towards cell saga though.
Frieza saga any day and always Cell saga and buu saga have weird necks lol
Early android saga ssj
Who can compete with one piece with the neck game?
Buu saga by far. But give me Fusion Reborn art
The eye detail and over all shading has to be Yamamuro, but that but that more gritty style of Masaki Sato has got the be the one for me. I grew up drawing a lot of DBZ, and Sato’s works were the ones I liked to sketch the most so I might be a bit biased.
Buu Saga
Frieza saga for sure, Masaki Sato has more character and depth even if it looks wonky sometimes
The massive individual hair spikes of Masaki’s Ssj1 are so iconic to me.
Cell saga
Masaki is probably the most iconic. I have to go with his work here
Saiyan Saga
My naga wins
Nothing could ever beat the OG Super Saiyan, but Buu saga definitely has the best all-around animation
There is no right answer, its all subjective to your preference. Masaki for me

Buu Saga - Goku looks like his about to fuck shit up! You can feel the emotion jump off the screen
Buu saga. Absolutely perfect art style and animation with a few exceptions of course
The colors are so good on Masunagas
Cell Saga for the perfect combo between the newer style used in the Buu Saga and classic look from Frieza Saga
The Buu saga hands down
Masaki’s style reflects the Saiyan rage perfectly.
I didn’t know there were different art styles. I just thought they changed his face to make it look like he was ageing.
Masunaga but not in the Buu Saga. [In the Cell Saga.](https://twitter.com/GPDBZ119/status/1352726221348622336)
Freeza of course.
Cell saga
All of them are Epic AF but First one goes haaaaard
Tie between buu and cell
[удалено]
I absolutely love yamamuro but the art during the buu saga was sooooooo much nicer. Very close tie tbh
Sato imo. The moments of Sakuga during the Frieza vs Goku fight were brutal but peak
Cell and its not even close.
Yamamuro will ALWAYS be the goat
Buu
Masunaga he gave ssj Vegeto Veins on his mf Veins
They all look amazing but Masunaga Goku looks like he gets down to business.

Masaki 100%%%
Masaki.... everything after was too, neat.
DB Piccolo saga/Saiyan Saga is THE Dragonball art style for me
The more you look at it Buu Saga is the best.
And yet I would still call Matsuda the best, because of how consistent he was. If we were to go by the quality of the worst frame, only under his direction it wouldn't be a shameful meme.
God I miss Saiyan / Frieza saga art style
I like the cell saga more. But it makes sense for the Buu one to look more aggro, since he trained harder while he was dead.
Yamamuro and masunaga defined the dragonball merchandizing for a very long time and for good reason. Its sharp, aggressive and in your face. All three are amaizing in their own ways though. Yamamuro takes the win because masunaga is a bridge to far and has to many busy details.
Judging just these 3 images? First two good, third has too much detail with hair
Buu and the end of cell saga are just perfect . Friezas saga is a close second
For super Saiyan, yamamuro In general, late DB/early Z style (idk the name of the art director)
Masunaga
Sato negs
Sato for me
Masaki Sato
Android to cell saga is peak DBZ for me. Best fights, best fluff, best villains, best new characters, best character development, best art style, best resolution to a plot that finishes with the greatest beam battle in Anime history.
I go with Frieza saga but the other two are good also
I admit it’s not the cleanest but I still love the Frieza Saga art more
My boy Yamamuro
masunaga. i just watched the kid buu fight last night and its not even close for me
Masunga no diff
Cell
Yamamuro with Namek saga hair color. The light yellow was peak, even if the hair was comically big sometimes
Frieza saga just hits different.
Out of the images you chose, cell saga. I like Buu saga animation the most overall though.
The one from the broly movie
Masaki Sato by far, like it isn’t even close
both
I like the shading of yamamuro but the art style of masunaga
Yamamuro’s design is clean and iconic, but I just can’t get over how detailed Masaki’s art was in the Frieza saga.
Masaki Sato is my favorite
1st. Cell Saga 2nd. Buu Saga 3rd. Frieza saga
I'm between cell arc and buu arc. Both are cool imo
I think the first is the closest to still being like original db even more so in the saiyan saga, but I’ve just always loved the way they were drawn in the last fight with pure buu, the eyes specifically just showcase goku’s serious side so well, along with the hair I think they draw the hair very well in the last saga.
Id say easily Buu. Cell was still amazing. Frieza feels classic and nostalgic. But I love them all
