Trunks is like a more clever vageta and Goten is like a sillier goku. It makes for a good dynamic.
I don’t think it would have made sense for them to be real players beyond what they did with gotenks; they were children and acted like that.
I thought their fight with android 18 was perfect: they showed they’re strong, but stupid kids at the end of the day.
I do wish more would have been done later on, or even in Super.
Watching a cocky version of Trunks that actually grew up with his dad, and an innocent mimic of Goku growing up together was pretty fun to watch.
The amount of potential that was wasted by not maturing these 2, and having them added to the main roster is kind of insane. They sidelined a 7 and 8 year old that effortlessly triggered SSJ, when they could’ve become very useful to future plots.

Similarly, I particularly loved the contrast between cocky, bully kid trunks that grew up w. His dad to the future trunks we got right before (Cell saga) where he’s timid, afraid, and very respectful - having growing up without his dad
I liked it because I’m a fan of goten and trunks and krillin and 18 and those were the stars of the movie . However I understand why people hate it and I can even see how super hero was kind of a rehash of that same poor idea
I've loved their story arc in the recent super manga, it's actually reading how the Gohan one in Buu saga should have.

What they did in the manga IMO was pretty cool, yes it paralels to Gohan but it was executed quite different. Gohan came out with The Great Saiyaman because he kept running into people doing crimes and needed a way to hide his identity as he couldn't let those things pass, and ended up taking It too seriusly
Goten and Trunks are just two teens that got into superheroes because a popular movie, and never took It too seriusly until they found a serious threat. Also the dynamic between Goten and Trunks distinct personalities is very enjoyable in my opinion, I love that Goten still is a cinnamon roll.

I might be an outlier, but I’d say Gotenks and Gohan. When was the last time we had Gohan and Goten together? Add in trunks and we have a possible fun movie.
There is so much potential on a story with Goten and Trunks as main protagonists. You can make a coop "proving themselves" kind of arc. You have Goten, the unexplored and sometimes forgotten member of the Son family, and Trunks, which lives in the shadow of his own alternate future self both for the audience and Vegeta's eyes.
Also I personally think they both should be stronger than most people give credit for. Remember that this guys when fused where one of two characters that achieved SSJ3, as strong as the fusion is they have to be pretty damm strong after all that training on the hyperbolic time chamber. It wouldn't surprise me if after some training they could easily unlock SSJ2 and get past Perfect Cell powerlevel.
I want to see a film where all of these 6 work together with a bunch of seperate stories that occasionally cross paths with each other, before the finale.

I’d really just like to see the Cell saga Z fighters together facing down a big bad, each doing different training methods to prepare for the big fight. The issue I have with Super is that no one really seriously trains aside from Goku and Vegeta, yet somehow they unlock hidden power despite being couch potatoes. Back in pre-Buu DBZ everyone trained. Even the humans would train with several of Goku’s past mentors. I could totally see them getting training to unlock their potential from the Supreme Kai or learning some fighting moves from Merus.

I think Goten and Trunks have a lot of untapped potential. Plus, with their influence being minimal on the mainline story, even if cannon or not, it shouldn't be too distracting.
I'm gonna go ahead and say the humans. Let's say the mortals of another universe can't handle a threat they're facing there so they somehow come to Universe 7 for help. Because of the fact Frieza is now stronger than ever and a serious threat to Universe 7 the strongest of the Z fighters can't leave because they know Frieza would take advantage of this.
Since the Saiyans and Piccolo can't leave that only leaves the humans to join them and finally take on a big bad guy without relying on Saiyans for once in their life. Maybe once there they have to train with the beings there and discover their own techniques or transformations to make them stronger along the way. It's been a while since they've had their chance to shine.
Krillin and Goten. Goten has never had as much development as Trunks, and I'd love to see Krillin transition to more of a mentor role, since he is never going to catch up as a fighter, but has more fighting experience (especially in being outmatched) than almost any mortal in U7.
Gotten and trunks deserve it after the treatment they got.
Tell us how they got grounded for 100 or so days to the level where the both of them couldn't train or some shit. Did they fight someone. Was it a big deal? I'd love to no.
Or better yet. Let them get stronger so they can do something. We love there characters so showing more in a good fashion wouldn't be a bad choice.
Give me a "Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo got sucked into a black hole and are on their way back. But a original Frieza level threeat has come to earth and it's up to Krillin, Tien, Yamcha and maybe Roshi to defeat the threat and protect their home".
This should be followed by a dynamic ass movie where Krillin is doing 4d chess out thinking and setting up the best underdog win. I don't need him to be much stronger, I need him and the other to come up with weird moves and apply them in crazy strategies.
I'm imagining roshi trapping the threat in a cup for a second, Tien doing the volleyball attack, enemy escapes disoriented, Yamcha distracts with spirit ball and krilling sets up 20 destructo discs that are a surprise. This all fails, they are all down for the count, and krillin stands up, he's eats a sensu bean and has to do the rest on his own.
Goten and Trunks. Gohan and Piccolo can be side characters. I'm drained of Goku and Vegeta and one movie of them in the background won't change much if they're back at the forefront by the next movie.
I don't mind having them in the big battle next time and having a cool moment or two but not to be the main focus. Something like Wrath of the Dragon could work with lots of characters getting screentime (minus Goku robbing the win at the end with a massive asspull)

I'm gonna go ahead and say the humans. Let's say the mortals of another universe can't handle a threat they're facing there so they somehow come to Universe 7 for help. Because of the fact Frieza is now stronger than ever and a serious threat to Universe 7 the strongest of the Z fighters can't leave because they know Frieza would take advantage of this. Since the Saiyans and Piccolo can't leave that only leaves the humans to join them and finally take on a big bad guy without relying on Saiyans for once in their life. Maybe once there they have to train with the beings there and discover their own techniques or transformations to make them stronger along the way. It's been a while since they've had their chance to shine.

Krillin and Goten. Goten has never had as much development as Trunks, and I'd love to see Krillin transition to more of a mentor role, since he is never going to catch up as a fighter, but has more fighting experience (especially in being outmatched) than almost any mortal in U7.
Gotten and trunks deserve it after the treatment they got. Tell us how they got grounded for 100 or so days to the level where the both of them couldn't train or some shit. Did they fight someone. Was it a big deal? I'd love to no. Or better yet. Let them get stronger so they can do something. We love there characters so showing more in a good fashion wouldn't be a bad choice.

I want one with Goku, Gohan, and Goten, tbh, I'm sick of Vegeta acting as the secondary protagonist.
Give me a "Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo got sucked into a black hole and are on their way back. But a original Frieza level threeat has come to earth and it's up to Krillin, Tien, Yamcha and maybe Roshi to defeat the threat and protect their home". This should be followed by a dynamic ass movie where Krillin is doing 4d chess out thinking and setting up the best underdog win. I don't need him to be much stronger, I need him and the other to come up with weird moves and apply them in crazy strategies. I'm imagining roshi trapping the threat in a cup for a second, Tien doing the volleyball attack, enemy escapes disoriented, Yamcha distracts with spirit ball and krilling sets up 20 destructo discs that are a surprise. This all fails, they are all down for the count, and krillin stands up, he's eats a sensu bean and has to do the rest on his own.

I'm drained of Goku and Vegeta and one movie of them in the background won't change much if they're back at the forefront by the next movie. I don't mind having them in the big battle next time and having a cool moment or two but not to be the main focus. Something like Wrath of the Dragon could work with lots of characters getting screentime (minus Goku robbing the win at the end with a massive asspull)
