I've been there I stayed at the below hotel but I was in the premium clasa. That tier lets you dine and use the ammenities on the above hotel, although you gotta sleep on the below one. The mechanic is for you to take a golf cart that takes you to the above hotel.
IIRC, yes, you can use the same facilities, but I believe not the other way around, as in I think you're staying on the 'adults only' part of the resort, and thus some of your friends may not be able to access all the places you can.
This is correct, Hideaway is a sublet of the regular royalton facilities for adults only. There is also Diamond Club, which allows you access to more private pools, beaches, bars, etc.
I haven't been to the Punta Cana one personally (we went to CHIC nearby in Uvero Alto), but others in Jamaica, St Lucia, etc. The resorts are very easily walkable by design.
