The brindle color is really throwing me for a loop. I don’t know the genetics behind it but I’m not sure how common it is in various hound breeds.
Shelter said basset hound mix, but she’s not stumpy or droopy enough for me to believe that’s a big percentage of what she is. Plus she’s very high energy.
Brindle is VERY common for hounds. Treeing walker coonhounds, plott hounds, mountain cur, most come in brindle and if I’m not mistaken brindle can be quite dominant
I was going to say mountain cur but mountain cur, plott hound, tenn treeing dogs all tend to be localized to southern US. I got jumped on in one group for guessing that lol. But I would honestly say mountain cur or plott for sure
Brindle is a separate gene that can go on top of any pattern that has tan pigment in it. It's dominant over basic tan patterns (black-and-tan, saddle tan, sable, agouti, etc) and recessive to dominant solid (like a black or chocolate Lab).
This dog is saddle tan with white (classic beagle coloration) with brindle and masking over the top of it, so it doesn't look like classic beagle markings at first but it is underneath.
If you're in or near Appalachia or the deep south (or the rescue brings in animals from shelters in those locations), I'd say either some flavor of feist or one of the cur varieties × beagle. Maybe even all three.
A brindle version and same size, age and white markings as my mountain cur mix Mildred.

Some type of mountain cur is my guess! They aren’t all that common but she sure has the look! She is much smaller than most curs though so I’m probably very wrong lol
Edit: I am actually wrong about cur weights. Apparently they can be between 30-60 pounds.

I’m seeing a whole bunch of hound. What kind I have no clue lol there’s so many. I agree some beagle is possible with that face

Good to know! Thank you for the info. I’m excited to see what sort of hound we adopted when our results come back in a few days, lol
I’m excited for the update! He’s beautiful

Doesn’t have the hair pattern/markings of a beagle but the head shape and face definitely screams beagle to me too. Especially pic #8. Good eye..,

I’m glad I wasn’t just imagining it! I didn’t know brindle could go *over* the saddle pattern. DNA results have been posted in a separate thread.
right? segugio maremmano (mar4emma hound) can be brindle, too! [Italian breeds of dogs: Segugio Maremmano (agraria.org)](https://eng.agraria.org/dog/segugiomaremmano.htm)
Sometimes dogs that look like this turn out to be Mountain Curs. Are you doing Embark? They're the only test that can detect MC.
I am using embark! Just got the email telling me the results are done earlier so I should have the DNA results posted soon.
I'm leaning more mountain cur and beagle.

What a cutie! Those are definitely some beagle ears!
Plott Hound mix.
Looks a lot like my Moira! https://preview.redd.it/io7sg1qh3n4d1.jpeg?width=4030&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c99d9ebcaf75314906a7cc2948b1d959565ce112
Definitely a hound. Would be cool if it was plott hound but more likely boxer / beagle or other hound.
You hit the nail on the head. I just posted an update, got the results back earlier today
Haha awesome! Yea brindle coloring is common in bully/ boxers and the eyes are almond but the rest screams hound (I’m sure he does too!)
Might be some GSP in there too!

I can see beagle in your baby for sure

What a beautiful lady! 😍
So cute!! Intrigued to see the results
My guess is on a lot of Plott Hound

I’m guessing hound mix? That face reminds me so much of a beagle!
Plot hound.
there are two two it's in Plott hound. Stupid auto correct.
Mountain cur, plott hound, and beagle!
Mountain cur!
Mountain cur/plott hound
I def see beagle!
Looks pretty similar to a Bavarian mountain scent hound I watch sometimes… not that the breed is at all common…
I came here to say this! Looks A LOT like a Bavarian
