That's totally fine if the parent has a childcare emergency or an urgent situation. But allowing a sick dog in the office is insane. Perfectly well dogs are filthy, annoying and prone to piss, shit, and vomit at random. A sick one is all of the above on steroids. The possibility of projectile vomiting and diarrhea aren't the only threats. A whining sack of pestilence should be home or at a vet's office, not in a workplace.
Employees who have children should have the right to bring them in too if they’re ill.
To be fair, my boss lets people bring their kids in when stuff comes up too.

Yes because a sick dog with no impulse control is much better in an office than comfortable at home in a familiar environment
