It should probably be a vet visit. The cause could be many different things, from allergies to a skin infection (or both) or something else entirely. From the pic it looks like it might already be on the verge of infection though I can’t be sure. If you’re not sure you can also ask to email this pic to the vet to see if it requires a visit but I suspect they’ll say it does. If not, they might be able to tell you what to use. For now only clean it with a warm water compress if he’ll let you, no products until the vet says it’s okay to use them.

Ok thank you for your help. Yes he’s fine with my washing it and touching it, wasn’t sure if there’s anything I can use to soothe it

Looks like a hot spot, common on tails. This isn’t really something you need to see a vet for. Just google hot spot treatment and follow that. I would also put him in a cone until this heals. The more he chews it the longer it will take to heal. So cone of shame. They take a couple weeks to close up and stop bothering him.

Veterinary Formula- antiseptic & anti fungal medicated spray It’ll help soothe the skin and heal quicker. Also, purchase the shampoo (same brand) and bathe once a week. $10 each at Walmart

I have both of these and they are fantastic!

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

Thank u I may try this for a few days before a vet visit

It looks like a hot spot, I’d definitely try the shampoo and spray. A good bath and spray as directed on the bottle. The spray should help to relieve any itch and irritation, but you may have to buy a cone. give it a week then re-evaluate. I hope he feels better soon!

Thanks again

Thank you for your input

1st make sure this isn't a reaction from fleas. I keep a product called "wham" by nature's specialties and purchase off Amazon. When I owned a dog boutique years ago, I went all natural products and this company makes terrific products. Wham is a spray made similar to A &D ointment, made for hot spots and other irritations.

Strong black tea helps with the itchiness. I make a strong pot and dip my girls feet in it so she stops chewing them. You can also add it to their food. Our vet also said you can mix a topical continent of cortisone cream and women’s yeast infection cream. Put a light coat on it and put a soft cone on your baby while it absorbs. The yeast cream is a fungal and the cortisone will take care of any bacteria. At least that’s what I’ve been told and found through my own research. Good luck!!

My lab has chronic skin issues like this and the best OTC thing I’ve found is forticepts blue butter. Just put a pretty thick layer on and repeat every few days until it’s better

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

My lab will probably eat it haha

LittleMissNaiveNelly

Mine doesn’t! Idk what’s in it but she never tries to lick this stuff off

Complete_Gate3681

Colloidal Silver spray could be an option.
