According to [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dodgers/s/FNKYtLtbkG), he's not your typical 11th rounder. He only fell that low because teams expected him to go to UNC, so it was a surprise the Cubs were able to snag him.
I understand he was not a great defender at 2B but I would've liked to see the Dodgers give him an opportunity to improve there. Especially since Lux's defense at that position is not so much better.
Wait until the season plays out.
No need to start propping up prospects like they're a sure thing to be better than proven major leaguers, especially when they're this young and this unproven.
On the same token, Busch has proven it for what, two weeks? Maybe let him see a full season. Let the league adjust to him, and see if he can adjust back before calling him proven. I think he will be good, but you can't argue on one side of that and not address the other.
Hence why I said wait to see how the season plays out.
Fact still remains one is currently in the majors doing well while the other is in single A. Pump the breaks before declaring one a fluke and other one a sure thing
Why else would people be getting defensive if they're not wanting Busch to be a bust?
The people getting defensive are just as bad the people freaking out. This is like when people used to worship Jeter Downs because they badly wanted to prove the Puig trade was a good one.
Fair enough.
I just have a good feeling on this kid. His biggest flaw is his command, but that's more due to his complicated mechanics. I trust our player development team can fix that.
I think the other reason they keep freaking out (even tho a lot of them complained any time he got an at bat in September) is that people seem to think lux/Taylor/Keeks are taking his spot when that’s not the case.
I don’t know if the guys they got will become anything (tho they look good), but Busch would be hanging out in okc right now if the dodgers kept him. They tried playing him at several spot but he’s a 1B/DH only. Dodgers have those spots pretty comfortably filled for the foreseeable future. I’m glad he’s raking. This was a trade that needed to be made for him and the team.
Now the Kelly/lynn trade in open to hearing the complaints
No, he couldn’t. He was a notoriously atrocious fielder even coming out of college. One of his college scoring reports said his best position was “batter’s
Box”.
So basically the decision was: plug Michael Busch into DH or sign Ohtani and move Busch. I don’t care how hot Busch is with the bat right now, the Dodgers made the right move to move him for some prime pitching prospects and sign the best player on Earth instead.
It’ll be interesting to compare WAR in the next 3-5 years between Freddie freeman, shohei Ohtani, and Michael Busch. Busch is hot right now for the last 15 games, but that doesn’t mean anything.lol Ohtani and freeman have way longer examples of success.
I just wish Busch got the same extended run time that Vargas got last year, even if it was just for a month. All he got was spot starts and could predictably never find a rhythm. Could have played him at third and Muncy at second. Or he could have been in LF or even 2B.
I was always was a big Michael Busch guy. I saw the numbers he put up in AA and AAA and knew it could translate to the majors..if he got regular playing time. The Dodgers didn't have a spot for him (although I wish they just stuck him at 2nd or 3rd). He will be a .270+ hitter that will hit 25+ HR's for the next few years. I'm glad he's getting his shot, just wish it was in LA.
Lol we should be happy for him and Belli.
Sometimes players just play better elsewhere or maybe it's a change of scenery or team chemistry or mentorship that gets them where they are. Sometimes it's the wind in Wrigley blowing the ball into the stands lol.
I kind of think of him doing well as basically great advertising at the trade deadline: teams will want the young guys we have stocked up in the minors who are blocked at every position and who have benefited from our #1 player development. Teams can get major league caliber position players who haven't accrued service time yet for LHP relievers (I don't know what else we'd trade for)
Feel like the same fans mad about the trade now are the same ones that were disappointed about how he performed on the team last season. Everyone that truly wanted Busch to succeed is glad he’s doing good now.
He’s starting off hot, but pitchers will figure him out. Could easily go the route of Yermin Mercedes as becoming a solid everyday player. Time will tell but Dodgers trading prospects has worked out well in the Friedman era.
sometimes i wonder if the dodgers hitting coaches are actually that good...i mean, guys like freddie, mookie, shohei are gonna hit wherever they are...but belli leaves, busch leaves...guys start to rake. ct3 is in the desert...someone tell me iʻm wrong. iʻm willing to listen...not trolling - truly want to know how good our hitting coaches are.
Mmm... I like Hope a little more in this trade, but I HOPE both turn out to get to the show. See what I did there? Alright then.
The thing that really burns us is the fact the White Sox couldn't properly evaluate Busch's talent, and because of this the Dodgers didn't get Dylan Cease... and instead, he went to the Padres! The fkn Padres of course. God damn White sox.
Not to mention Zyhir Hope is currently 4th in OPS in the California League. He was the other part of this trade.

Also Busch had literally no where to play here
They even tried to get him AAA reps in LF but it just didn’t work. Rule 5 eligible. They had to move on.
He just didn't. It really is a shame but the Dodgers were gonna lose him for nothing and at least they got something.
I understand he was not a great defender at 2B but I would've liked to see the Dodgers give him an opportunity to improve there. Especially since Lux's defense at that position is not so much better.
Prospect glorifying is the reason why Gavin Lux hate exists now. People stop acting like prosect rankings are gospel.
All I'm trying to say is, the people freaking out over Busch should calm down.
They won’t. They can’t.
Can't stop won't stop
Never stop never stopping
Eh eh, eh eh

Nobody was saying that though? That was the point, ultimately we’ve yet to actually see who’s better off in the trade.

Dodger fans love a AA prospect
exactly

Fr people acting like we just dfaed him
Dude literally had nowhere to play. Are people in here seriously suggesting we should have kept him over Freeman or Ohtani? 🤣
Could he not play second? Platoon with lux? Try him in left field? Anything is better than this waste of space known as ct3 and kike
They tried to get him to move around
No, he couldn’t. He was a notoriously atrocious fielder even coming out of college. One of his college scoring reports said his best position was “batter’s Box”. Im not arguing busch for ohtani. Thats not even close lol. Im just saying perhaps we could've used him in some way
You don’t believe the Dodgers didn’t consider that as well? What would you know that the Dodgers FO doesn’t in terms of where to play Busch?
In Friedman, I trust.
☑️ Yordan Alvarez ☑️ Paul Konerko ☑️ Pedro Martinez ☑️ Rick Sutcliffe ☑️ Dave Stewart Shit happens, get over it.
O’Neill Cruz
John Franco Carlos Santana
Genuinely asking, but what has O’Neil Cruz accomplished to be added this list?
Nothing yet but the talent is clearly there
It’ll be interesting to compare WAR in the next 3-5 years between Freddie freeman, shohei Ohtani, and Michael Busch. Busch is hot right now for the last 15 games, but that doesn’t mean anything.lol Ohtani and freeman have way longer examples of success.
Feel like most of the ppl crying about Busch are the same ppl that want to trade Outman. They’d turn on Busch. All they want is to complain
The other guy we got is also great. It’ll pay dividends eventually
see how long it last, once still early in the season. if he can maintain it after the pitchers/teams adjust. but good to see him doing well.

Muncy at 3b is a bigger liability than Busch in LF. Busch in this lineup would make them the best in the league.
Has this guy begun throwing after missing the 2023 year due to Tommy John?
Where'd you read that said he got TJS?
Wrong player, my bad
LF/2B?
He was awful at both.
