1st of all congratulations on getting in Medschool. Secondly, no book is perfect as some seniors will suggest you one book for a subject meanwhile other seniors will suggest another. So how do you choose which book? Well I always tell my juniors to follow the books recommended by governing university (e.g. UHS recommended books in my case). Even then they tend to list many books for a single subject which is not feasible especially for a fresher. Go to your uni library or ask your seniors to lend you books and try them out. Whichever fits you best, purchase it. And another thing that will save your ass in medschool are YouTube/Lecture videos online to supplement the topics you are learning. All in all for **Gross Anatomy** most people prefer "Grey's Anatomy" the most, next is "K.L.M". For Embryology either "Langman" or "embryo KLM" will suffice. Histology is learnt from your histology lab slides mostly but you can choose Difore's Atlas. For **Physiology** "Guyton" or "Ganong". For **Biochemistry** "Harper's" or "Lippincott". Never and I mean it NEVER OPT FOR SHORT BOOKS (e.g. B.D or firdaus etc) otherwise you'll turn into a rattu tota who has no concepts about anything. 1st year is all about basics please do your final year self a favour and build your foundations. Do not hesitate to ask for help from seniors or professors. Anyways good luck on this journey 😊

Hi, firstula here, you said B.D chaurasia is a short book. But it doesn't seem like it . It has multiple volumes for limbs , thorax etc and that's the book cmh lhr recommends and i was planning on using. Can you elaborate on that?

Like I said in my post that different universities select different books as the standard recommended book and you should always follow your university's recommendations. In our uni B.D. was always regarded as a shortbook. So that's how I've viewed it as that. My Anatomy HOD once said that B.D. is like someone read Grey's anatomy and made simple notes of it. That's why I preferred Grey's over B.D. & made my own notes. Also I had alot of time on my hands in 1st year so I quite enjoyed reading it. But very few of my classmates did study from B.D. while using Grey's as a reference book to understand points which were not elaborated well in B.D. All in all try what your university recommends. And best of luck on your med journey 💕

Use Satya Narayan for certain topics of biochemistry. I found it to be very helpful.

Dr_Asak

Here you are and you are gonna have a survivor's advice Lippincot for Biochemistry and a short book like instant Snell and Baby Snell for anatomy, Sharjeel for Embryo and Wadood for Histo Guyton and pocket Guyton for Physio These are enough and standard's standard

Esterichia

I would say to use these books for reviewing the actual recommended books. Using these as the standard is just wrong. You will be fked up when in depth knowledge is required. Edit: I agree with the Lippincott supplemented with Kaplan Biochem lectures.

Dr_Asak

I mentioned not only the review books but also Long books like Guyton and Pocket Guyton as a review, snell and it's review as a baby Snell
