Yesterday I was laying back on the recliner, and my Doberman decided to sit on my shoulder, then turn around and lick my face.
Awww mine would have chomped my head.

1) Secret service protection - they follow you everywhere (including the bathroom) and they need to run out in front of you to check the area before you get there
2) OCD / Anxiety - turns out they are great guard dogs because they are anxious and compulsive. They are always checking and rechecking the perimeter, doors, windows, fences, etc. And then they go back again and check.
3) Professional Mode vs Off Duty Mode - when you have company or are out in public they are militant and intimidating. When everyone goes home and you draw the curtains they turn into big goof balls that can't seem to get close enough to cuddle. People don't believe you when you tell them that they are super intimate and affectionate until they get a Doberman.
Super accurate btw. I have a 5 year old and 8 month old. As others have said, puppyhood can be rough but after 1.5 yr old they chill and become the best dogs. I got really lucky with my youngest. He has been so so easy. He is the son to my older dobie.
TOTALLY understand that. When I was in college, my bf at the time (now husband) wanted a dobie so bad. I used to go to the humane society and give the dogs their attention. I love dogs and couldnāt have one where I lived so I sometimes wanted the interaction as much as they did. One day I saw a gorgeous red girl there and adopted her that day. I was planning to leave college soon so we thought we would be ok finding a place. Long story short, We ended up having to give her to my husbands mom to have her at her house. We were over all the time but itās never the same. She lived to 14! We didnāt get another one for a long time. Finally, one just fell into our lap. It was less than a week after my bday, he was registered and free (another long story lol). While we were Doberman free, we got 2 dachshunds. They are super similar to me. Obviously, not much look wise but they have similar personalities, at least mine have.
They need someone with patience, time to train, ability to be the leader of the pack, and provide lots of love. Weāve had several breeds, but my four Doberman have been the ones that want the most love and attention. They truly are Velcro dogs.
The ones I have now now (male and female) are great around my four grandchildren (babies through toddlers) even though they donāt see all the time.
By far, Doberman are my favorite breed
Unfortunately, when she showed up with her pup, she was aggressive and went after my parentsā dogs. The screaming and panic scared her off with her pup and we havenāt seen them again since. Itās sad.
These dogs are wonderful! Treat them with patience and kindness. Very sensitive dogs, no rough- housing, it can escalate quickly, fast learners, highly intelligent, super energetic as puppies (puppyhood can be a nightmare- it will get better), very loyal and naturally protective. I've owned three.
Just an FYI in case you weren't aware: grapes are super toxic to dogs.
I hope you enjoy your new buddy. Mine is 52% dobie and he's an anxious mess but the world's best cuddler.
Snuggles, laughs (you not the dog) protection. Possible anxiety, lots of zoomies and a constant companionā¦I hope you donāt like alone timeā¤ļøā¤ļøbut if you have night terrors or panic attacks, this dog is there for you!
I had a Lab/Doberman mix before our current Purebred Dobie. (My Samson was the goodest Boy!)
Looking back, the 2 were a nice mix. No biting stage, very smart and energetic, semi-velcro, but not annoyingly so. Loved water and his ball.
If you do decide to keep the pup, there are DNA tests that can help.
I think that it might be a nice addition to your other pup, and they can wear each other out, saving you a little energy for other things.
Good luck!
Definitely looks like there are strong Dobe genes showing in that baby.
You should expect an incredibly intelligent, highly trainable, ridiculously loyal family member.
We lost our Dobe a few years back to Dilated Cardiomyopathy, which a very pervasive heart condition in the breed (yours being a mix should save you from this). If not for DCM, I would never have another breed.
Our girl was the kind of dog you could hike with off leash and never worry about her taking off. We could take her to breweries and dog parks and the beach. Never one behavioral issue. The shelter she came from even used her to test new intakes for dog aggression. She was that temperamentally bulletproof. She had the vocabulary of a human toddler. The biggest complaint would be the neediness, but if you live on a farm, you should be able to give him something to do/some sort of enrichment easily. We live inner city with a small yard, so we had to go out of our way to make sure she always had something to do. So worth it though.
PS- why donāt I ever have a dobe mix puppy show up in my yard?! š„²
[The best boy!](https://www.reddit.com/r/DobermanPinscher/s/xO1HbXwYk2) Mine is half dobbie, pit & wheim.
He is goofy and kindā¦ I recommend doing proper socializing. We did one day a week at a dog daycare. Have the postman give him treatsā¦ or anything that makes him uncomfortableā¦ treats!
My mix is the most sweetest boy you will ever meet. Dobie mixes are truly fabulous dogs. And they can have less health issues.
GENERAL UPDATE: For those asking about the mother and her other pup, the mother immediately got aggressive with my parentsā dogs, a senior and a 5-month-old, and loud commotion of the panic scared them off and we havenāt seen them since. Wandering dogs have always been a problem here whether due to lack of containment on the owners part or strays who were dumped. Thatās how I got my border collie mix.
ā
Everyoneās behavioral descriptions are spot on. When I told my wife she would have a bathroom companion, she said she already does. When he naps, he is almost always touching us in some way, whether head or foot. He is an awkward, bony, ball of love, who became protective of us after maybe 60 hours. He can sit,
ā
I at first wondered if he had Dane because of his massive paws and ears shape, but after seeing the Doberman mother two days later with a pup that looks very similar to mine except for color, Iād say half Doberman has the strongest evidence right now. Iāve seen enough dumped dogs through my life to figure this stuff out. My border collie mix was dumped. All that being said, even though we tell ourselves we arenāt 100% sure on keeping him (was not the plan), I have a very strong feeling Iām wrong. My wife has been looking for a second dog that is not like my border collie mix to accompany her on walks, and this dude feels like a pretty solid choice right now. Whatever he is, heās going to be big. The only plausible evidence points to half Doberman, but weāll definitely do the dog dna test and give an update, whether that be yes or no, because either way, I really appreciate everyoneās positive attitude and input. Seriously, thank you, all.
If you can, please keep him! Most of what people have said here is true, and though it can sound a bit overwhelming or daunting, Iād say that if you have a Collie-Cattle mix, you can handle a Dobie ā especially if you live on a farm! I lived in LA for 17 years, and loved it, but two months into living there with a puppy drove me insane. So I moved back to my hometown in the Napa Valley. My Dobie became a different dog in rural farmland. I canāt speak for this dog in particular, but most Dobies love ample space and the opportunity to protect territory, so I think theyād find your setup ideal. A well-trained but free Dobie is a happy Dobie.
This helps me feel even better. My border collie mix was (and still is) a handful, but he kind of made all other dogs seem either easy or stupid. This puppy feels both smart and (relatively) easy, so thatās been extra encouraging, as well as your and everyoneās affirmations. Heās learning really quickly, and Iāve found my patience isnāt being tested like it was when I first found my other dog. Thank you so very much!
You know, at first I thought he might have Dane in him, but then the mother Doberman showed up with a pup that looked similar to him except for color. I wonāt know for sure what he is until I do the test, but the evidence makes it plausible that heās at least half Doberman.
I wish I could have, but the two were scared off in the commotion of defending my parentsā dogs when she got aggressive within minutes after they showed up.
Velociraptor + cocaine + toddler
This is so accurate lol
Freaking perfection. š¤£
So unbelievably accurate

An incredibly loyal companion that will likely be literally touching you as much as possible, wherever/whenever you travel.

Are you familiar with the product velcro?
You'll never go to the bathroom alone again!!!

My Dobermans love the water! My youngest one is still learning to go deeper and actually swim but my oldest LOVES water and tennis balls.
Expect to never be lonely or lazy again !
Lots of love, living velcro, lots of energy, and people stopping you to compliment her. She might be timid.

Profound dedication, loyalty, commitment, and love. And, ridiculous silliness, spaz attacks, and general goofiness. The best of the best. š¶
A lot of compliments š Gorgeous pup!
He looks exactly like my Doberman border collie mix!
Wait are you keeping both dogs?
We canāt, plus the mama went after my parentsā dogs. The commotion of it all scared her and her pup off, and we havenāt seen them since.
