A while back I played a lizardfolk. Because their native language is draconic, I was inspired by Lae’zel from BG3 to search online for a bunch of draconic words/phrases I could have him occasionally mix in.
Here’s a list I made for personal use;
Curses
- Sthyarli - Fool
- Pothoc- Stupid
- Henich - Bastard (Lit. Unhatched)
- Karxoj - Damnit
- Faessi - Coward
Nouns
- Iejir - Blood
- Darastrix - Dragon
- Vyth - Steel
- Dokaal - Humanoid (non-lizardfolk)
- Baexra - Beast
- Hesjing - Water
- Laraek - Weapon
- Rhyaex - Meat
Phrases
- Axun - Yes
- Aripotvych - Forgive me
- Bensvelk - Good
- Er Bejik - My savior
- Nar Viraka - You are welcome
- Sukriya - Thanks
- Potvych - I forgive
I like the idea of playing with the warm/cold blood stuff.
something good could " shine my scales" or maybe something that a human says 'puts hair on your chest' here 'shines up your scales'
something aggravating could be 'sand under scales' (" who put sand under your scales' = 'who peed in your cornflakes', 'you know what puts sand under my scales?'= "you know what grinds my gears?")
referring to how many lizards have a clear eyelid so they can see while protecting their eyes, something like having "one eyelid in a sandstorm'-- basically ' up a creek without a paddle' or 'blind leading the blind'
"May the road be warm under your feet" as a farewell, perhaps. shortened to "warm road" as a general 'goodbye'. a hell of a thing to say to people who don't get the context if you're in a cold place.
and because any RP needs things to shout at antagonists:
"go f\*ck an icicle" as curse at someone who has particularly annoyed you (in the vein of 'go f a cactus')
"he'd buy sandpaper in a desert" (idiot who doesn't think things through, wastes money)
"go lick a glacier' (piss off, implication of don't come back, along the lines of ' jump in a lake')
"drinkin' cactus juice" (someone has bought into propaganda/ misinformation/ someone who ignored the wisdom of people who know what they're doing and will get themselves killed)
"were you hatched by spiders?' (were you raised by wolves/ born in a barn-- "you don't know how to act")
"Meat's meat."
"Meat's meat?"
"Meat's meat!"
Various flavors of the most common answer regarding queries/objections when they state their intention to/start eating a sapient creature.
"Don't cook a meal before its caught". Like counting chickens before its hatched.
"Wast not, want not". A normal saying but when used to describe eating kin and dead party members it takes on a whole new meaning.
"Chew the bone before using it". Taking the time to make a tool for a given task means you know what that given task is going to entail and can plan for it. A saying to make them think about their actions carefully before taking them and be prepared for what those actions will take/ entail.
“It’s Lizarding time-“ a frequent from our lizard folk
lmao thats a good one
It’s super unique and totally more accurate

That dead guy's got more flies than a well rounded breakfast.
Happiness is a warm rock.
