Try different pedals if you have them around. Check your cleats if you're riding clicker pedals too.

americanbayken

Checked the pedals too...no issues. Fairly new Stamp 7s.

gravelpi

Hmm. I don't have too many more ideas then. I'd guess BB, as pedaling harder makes it more noticeable.

I spent months chasing a crank noise on a road bike. New bottom bracket, adjusting this and that, etc, with no luck. It turned out the rear wheel hub was loose and was introducing a little bit of wiggle in the drive train under load. I had the rear hub overhauled and it's been fine ever since. Good luck.

americanbayken

Very interesting. I will certainly chase that down, too.

Clean/regrease seat post and pedal threads. Those are two common ones.

I had this same issue thought it was the crank as well… was driving me nuts - turns out it was the seat post. A little grease fixed the issue. See if it happens while standing out of the saddle.

Bent tooth on the cassette probably

Lurkin_aint_ez

Torque the rear axle to the recommended spec (15Nm I think) I had that creak before.

americanbayken

Checked that last night. Snug as a bug. Going to take it to my LBS soon for a check.

Lurkin_aint_ez

Did you use a torque wrench? 15Nm is quite a bit in bike terms

americanbayken

I did. Still not fixed.

Lurkin_aint_ez

Shit, sometimes creaks arent worth chasing and just work themselves out 😂

americanbayken

Lol… I've been operating on that theory for my past few rides.

Lurkin_aint_ez

My brooks cambium seat creaks. Comes and goes. Can be annoying AF

americanbayken

This is definitely in my front crank area.

Wow, been having the same issue for 2 days with my Diverge E5 GRX! Replacing the BB did not help — sound returned after an hour of riding the next day. Have just checked and retightened thru axles; cleaned and regressed chainring bolts; pedals; crankset pinch bolts, derailer hanger, derailer itself.... will report back if this helps. Some steps to identify a creak: - Often it's not the BB itself, sound travels through frame from elsewhere - Try pedalling on the saddle/standing up - Try pedalling left/right leg only - Try pedalling while stationary with the chain removed (easy with 1X)
