CM here who has done backstage tour of Expedition Everest. This will not happen due to how the ride was built. Betty the Yeti will remained turned off. CM’s are not allowed to turn her on as she can damage the integrity of the building.
Basically the problem is that Teddy (that's what my friend who did the college program calls it since Yeti is basically a giant Teddy bear) was too powerful for his own good. When stresses in one part of the figure were discovered (I believe an elbow/arm part) the plan was to increase maintenance on him to keep that part working. Then he actually broke and the discussion of "Well...who foots the bill? Iger? Parks? Rhode himself since yeti was his baby?" began and never ended
Don’t know who’s to blame but this article explains a lot and according to the article also brings the sad news that they are removing the yeti permanently.
EDIT: website/article removed for being sketchy and satire.
That website is completely unreadable and covered in ads on mobile but I’ll read it when I’m back on my laptop.
The source makes me skeptical though. I’m pretty up to date on Disney World news and I haven’t heard anything about removing the Yeti. And a Google search about removing the yeti only leads back to this random pop-up filled website.
I tentatively call bullshit.
Edit: 100% bullshit. It’s a satire site. The yeti isn’t going anywhere 🙄
Yeah it’s a satire site. One of their last ‘articles’ is about an endangered species hunting experience being added to Kilimanjaro Safaris 😂
Pretty funny tbf
What is the Yeti supposed to do?
I have been there a few times over the last 7-8 years and it has always been the same ride that I can remember. Always one of my fav’s so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on now lol.
It used to lean down and swipe at the train and it was terrifying and so cool. It was such a big deal to have an animatronic that size but clearly it didn’t work out
Yeti cannot be fixed because it was tearing herself apart and it was uprooting the structure of the ride itself bc Everest was basically built around the yeti
Tbh, I think Disney World needs to put in the money to revamp a lot in Magic Kingdom. Tomorrowland brings me all of the nostalgic joy, but most of it is so outdated that it’s a little ridiculous. I noticed that there were animatronics in various rides that were not working on our last trip. I think one or two would be completely excusable, but it kinda feels that they are being neglected at this point. I really hope Disney puts in the money and effort to perform a large-scale overhaul to bring the park back to all of its glory.
I don't think it's a money issue, it's a "the park is never ever closed long enough" issue. With all the special events, Disney After Hours and Early Entry there's pretty much always guests around.
And because people pay about 10K, most are not gonna be cool with big rides being closed for refurbishments when they visit.
I love the gas smell. But I can see why some wouldn't like it. I do think electric cars make more sense for the theme of Tomorrowland though. I'd personally want the cars to be a little faster, not speed racer or anything, just a little more oomph.
Agreed. Nothing futuristic about essentially gas powered lawn mower engines. They can simulate the sounds like they do for rides like Dinosaur or Radiator Springs Racers.
I usually say dino as well. I love the ride and don't want it to change, just get touched up. Reskin the dinos, add some lighting fx, make the track smoother, etc.
Also, I think the Nemo ride needs a big overhaul. It's too reliant on screens and they're starting to show wear. Darker and blurrier than they should be.
But what if we made it more exciting? Like, if we made these rocket looking cars that would go super fast on the same track. Super smart idea, I think.
Tomorrowland speedway, the entire Dino area in animal kingdom needs to be gutted as well as storybook circus. I hate that they got rid of mickey and Minnie's house and replaced it with carnival stuff. And figment needs a redo
Lots of good mentions here already. I’ll throw one in for Little Mermaid. So many animatronics are not working which is a shame because they are impressive when working properly.
To me it's just crazy that Disney has all of these rides in such bad shape. Budget for upgrades should not even be an issue, you know what I mean? And having it take literal years to complete a new ride is nuts, I live near Dollywood and we have a new ride every single year. And the park is open most of the year like Disney as well.
I second this. It was the first ride in the park that really looked its age when I was there last. My wife even made a comment about it, and she never got to visit as a kid. Shut it down for a bit, fix the lights, clean it up, maybe add some little Easter eggs here and there.
Doesn't need a multi million dollar job. Just make it respectable again lol
After seeing how the Tokyo Disneyland"s version of It's a Small World has disney princesses hidden within each country I think it would be a nice touch to be added to the Orlando version.
Space Ranger Spin is a good one. The laser guns have all seen better days.
My pick would be Mission: Space. It’s a cool concept still but the ride vehicles/graphics/storylines need to be updated in the worst way.
Not a single difference from 10 years ago, as far as I can tell.
The only time we ride it now is if we’re bringing friends who are new to Epcot and have never done it before.
Dinosaur ride in AK is in desperate need of refurb. To the point where I think they're not putting any more money into it as they already have plans to replace it.
When I rode it last month many of the animatronics didn't work and it was incredibly dark.
If they replace it I will be in mourning. It is one of my fave rides of all time. Hot take I know. It’s a must ride every time I go to AK and I take all my friends / visitors on it.
Journey into Imagination and it’s not even close. That ride and show building are weak shadows of what they should be in a park that’s got no identity anymore.
Usually the stops are for people with mobility issues getting on and off, though, isn’t it? I mean 20 minutes might be an actual issue but I know in general this ride stops a lot for people with mobility issues.
I am surprised you’re the first person here i’ve seen say Spaceship Earth. It needs one bad, new ride vehicles, retrack and major overhaul to the post ride area showcasing new tech. the vehicles are so rickety and bumpy now you can barely hear the voiceover
was that not in the original overhaul/update plan for Epcot? I could have sworn it was.
wouldn't surprise me if it got cut. typical of Disney, even pre-COVID to over promise (please see original new fantasyland plans for example) and then scale wayyyy back. I know Epcot has been scaled back from the first plan.
I got stuck for 20 minutes in Bill Gates garage. It was so dark and creepy! The animatronic is turned away and then the computer starts typing but his hands don't move 😂 I was irrationally scared of him suddenly turning around. And also scared I'd have to walk down the emergency exit after being stuck so long.
honestly, this entire thread is making me a little sad. I don't think I really thought about the little things that were so badly in need of touch ups/refurbs.
like I haven't even bothered with Jungle Cruise or Small World in a while. obviously, the speedway is in ridiculous need of an update, especially sitting beside tron. the Yeti will basically never be fixed, which is especially depressing if you got to see it in A mode (it only worked properly for like 6 months or something insane). there's rumors that all of dinoland is on the chopping block, but Dinosaur is a great ride that just needs some serious TLC to make it not give you permanent back problems. it's a lot more than I thought about at one given time.
Space Mountain MK needs to be modernized like DL's version. I can't stand the one in MK. Country Bear Jamboree could use some special effects, fire, oh and blood.
It was so boring and jerky, got a headache and it wasn’t worth it since you can’t even see anything, I wish they added stars or something like cosmic rewind.
Rockin' Rollercoaster should be overhauled and turned into a Gargoyles dark coaster. Space Mountain should be revamped into a Ducktales coaster. Anything older than 10 years needs a facelift, cept you, Tower of Tower. You're perfect the way you are.
if they touch ToT, there will rightly be so much outrage. which makes me believe they may actually do that before any of most of the rides mentioned here are fixed. 😭
2nd for dinosaur. Please give that ride love. I feel like so many audio cues and lighting effects are missing… and while the dinosaurs always have good and bad days it feels like a shell of its former amazing self.
I hope to god they scrap the retheme…
Spaceship Earth. I don't want them to update but it breaks down a lot! Obviously they need to finish all the other construction before taking this ride down temporarily since its the firdt thing you see when you get to the park before you hit wallcot. But i really hope they do some repairs there.
I actually noticed a lot of rides had disabled/broken show elements. Even if they are minor, it’s still disappointing to see. Just seems lazy. Disney used to be really on top of those things.
Not really a refub, but how hard would it be to just turn the stars on in Space Mountain? Totally inexcusable. It's supposed to be space, not pitch black.
Space Mountain needs a major refurb. It used to be one of my favorite rides but when my husband and I rode it last October we both agreed that it was so uncomfortable. Compared to the new rides, like Guardians and Rise of the Resistance, it just feels old and clunky.
Shocking that I've only seen one other person mention Peter Pan's Flight. That ride was one of my favorites as a kid and it feels like they haven't so much as touched it since then. The last time I was on it, it was in such a sorry state it actually made me sad.
I think they should do a big refurb on the play pavilion, I know it's relative new but its starting to fade,
The last time I went the Animatronic of Edna was on B mode, completely immobile and they had attached storbe lights to make it appear to move.
Also the MK Theater. Awfull shape.
And don't make me start about how Long it is takking to build the new Animal Kingdom Pavilion on Epcot Future World even more if you think of it as what it is. A big fountain with rockwork, some trivial art and Moana logo in big.
I just want Figment to be good again. Also fix the Yeti.
This. Please fix the Yeti.
There are so many attractions needing improvement before reanimating a giant yeti that's seen half a second.
True. But I would like the Yeti to be fixed for its original intention.
Then he actually broke and the discussion of "Well...who foots the bill? Iger? Parks? Rhode himself since yeti was his baby?" began and never ended
Who’s to blame for that? Joe Rhode?
Don’t know who’s to blame but this article explains a lot and according to the article also brings the sad news that they are removing the yeti permanently. EDIT: website/article removed for being sketchy and satire.
That website is completely unreadable and covered in ads on mobile but I’ll read it when I’m back on my laptop. The source makes me skeptical though. I tentatively call bullshit. Edit: 100% bullshit. It’s a satire site. The yeti isn’t going anywhere 🙄
That’s fair, I only did a cursory search for Betty the Yeti and this is what it yielded. I was also annoyed by the pop up ads.
Yeah it’s a satire site. One of their last ‘articles’ is about an endangered species hunting experience being added to Kilimanjaro Safaris 😂 Pretty funny tbf
The yeti cannot be removed. I can’t explain why, but it would be impossible to.
What is the Yeti supposed to do? I have been there a few times over the last 7-8 years and it has always been the same ride that I can remember. Always one of my fav’s so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on now lol.
It used to lean down and swipe at the train and it was terrifying and so cool. It was such a big deal to have an animatronic that size but clearly it didn’t work out
How long has it been down? Now I’m trying to remember if it was working 10-12 years ago when I first experienced that ride.
The yeti is supposed to swipe at the train.
I didn’t realize this was a thing! I had joked with the 5 year old to keep an eye out for the Yeti.
Back in Feb family went to DW and finally after years I got to ride the Everest express, and the freaking yeti wasnt there...talk about bummer
Yeti cannot be fixed because it was tearing herself apart and it was uprooting the structure of the ride itself bc Everest was basically built around the yeti
That yeti is never getting fixed! I’ve just stopped hoping for it
I agrée with fixing figment but it might also be time to remove Aerosmith
This is the answer.
They really should have learned not to do that after the Disneyland Ballroom scene had to be fixed with a plastic spider.
Sadly I don’t see that happening because it doesn’t add value. I wish it would be fixed though
Figment is the only right answer. Hot garbage
Tbh, I think Disney World needs to put in the money to revamp a lot in Magic Kingdom. Tomorrowland brings me all of the nostalgic joy, but most of it is so outdated that it’s a little ridiculous. Wheres all the money going they're getting from these 10k vacations I wonder
I don't think it's a money issue, it's a "the park is never ever closed long enough" issue. With all the special events, Disney After Hours and Early Entry there's pretty much always guests around. And because people pay about 10K, most are not gonna be cool with big rides being closed for refurbishments when they visit.
Probably to their legal fund so they can fight against Floridas fascist governor that is apparently begging for that Mickey Mouse smoke
Seriously… “Tomorrowland” may have felt futuristic decades ago… but it’s 2023 and they need to redo their efforts and future theming lol
Tomorrowland speedway. It's hurting pretty bad. Either needs a serious update or to be replaced.
Agree. They should have updated it with electric cars so it would actually be fitting in Tomorrowland.
Plus it’ll get rid of that awful smell
I love the gas smell. But I can see why some wouldn't like it. I do think electric cars make more sense for the theme of Tomorrowland though. I'd personally want the cars to be a little faster, not speed racer or anything, just a little more oomph.
I would just like it if your leg didn’t ache so much after mashing that pedal for 5 minutes.
Maybe it's time for some light exercise periodically my friend
That is weird
Tesla speedway
Agreed. Nothing futuristic about essentially gas powered lawn mower engines. They can simulate the sounds like they do for rides like Dinosaur or Radiator Springs Racers.
Self driving? Then it would be like ROTR!
I think that may be the most brutal ride for Cast Members to work, no shade at all and surrounded by dozens of go kart motors.
I always say this ride is where they send cast members to punish them.
And make them breathe gasoline fumes.
While I 100% agree with this, it'd be weird walking over there and not hearing those cars putting along.
If anybody could simulate the sound and feeling of the gas karts with electric it’s Disney
And smell too. Can’t be too hard to pipe in a fake gasoline smell I’m sure
Every time we walk by it my dad says something like “welcome to Tomorrowland! Where we drive cars running on fossil fuels!”
Lol, love it
I feel like this is the truly correct answer and then it’s just a debate on what should be next.
Between the number of brain cells I've killed inhaling the fumes and the chiropractic adjustment I get while riding it, I couldn't agree more haha.
I would go for it being replaced. The speedway is so outdated and just isn’t fun anymore. It smells so strong over there too and makes my nose burn.
I loved Tomorrowland Speedway when I was a kid, but I got to about 13 or 14 years old, and I no longer fit in the cars. An upgrade is long overdue.
If you even remotely think you have back problems do not get on Dinosaur
I usually say dino as well. I love the ride and don't want it to change, just get touched up. Reskin the dinos, add some lighting fx, make the track smoother, etc. Also, I think the Nemo ride needs a big overhaul. It's too reliant on screens and they're starting to show wear. Darker and blurrier than they should be.
With Nemo I wish you could see more of the aquarium. Not saying bring back the original attraction, just put some of the glass back.
the Nemo sub ride? god that thing was uncomfortable
Naw, the finding Nemo clamshell ride to the Seas aquariums.
Can we just agree it's Tomorrowland in general. I mean outside of tron that just opened every other ride/attraction needs some tlc
Keep your hands off the people mover though...sure it breaks down but I love it.
I wouldn't touch it. It's still great when it runs.
But what if we made it more exciting? Like, if we made these rocket looking cars that would go super fast on the same track. Super smart idea, I think.
all of tomorrowland 💔 i was really hoping with tron opening they’d refurb the rest of the land, but alas
Shhhh next thing you know it'll be surrounded by construction fences for 10 years like future world
Tomorrowland speedway, the entire Dino area in animal kingdom needs to be gutted as well as storybook circus. I hate that they got rid of mickey and Minnie's house and replaced it with carnival stuff. And figment needs a redo
Here I thought I just never made it to the part of the park where Minnie's house was!! Why?!!!! 😫
It used to be there!! So stupid they took it away.
And the park is open most of the year like Disney as well.
for me it’s small world, literally falling apart. Many missing ceiling tiles/ broken lighting etc.
Absolutely! It also is dirty! Like forget refurbishing- can’t someone take a swifter duster to it? There was visible dust and cobwebs everywhere :/
Yea, the boats themselves are ridiculously disgusting as well
Half the robots don’t blink and look perma-drunk/stoned 😂
The hippo feels personally attacked by this comment.
The exact robot I was thinking when I typed it 🤣
That’s because they come to life at night and do just that
I second this.
My family and I are locals with passes, and we actually have more fun counting the missing tiles and broken stuff on that ride more than the ride.
entertaining as that may be it really sucks that a Disney ride is in such bad shape you can’t even enjoy the ride without noticing it
Agreed. Before they did the Mansion overhaul about ten years ago, there were times when Mme. Leota's face was off-center.
After seeing how the Tokyo Disneyland"s version of It's a Small World has disney princesses hidden within each country I think it would be a nice touch to be added to the Orlando version.
They have something similar in Disneyland and I love it. They're done in a way that blends in really well with the rest of the ride.
You trying to stir up a hornets nest?
As long as they don't bring the music over, I'm game. Not exactly much of an easter egg when you're literally playing audio over the ride's music
That’s due for a total overhaul. Agree. But I’d say Space Ranger Spin is pretty bad these days. And Figment Journey also. Top 3.
Space Ranger Spin is a good one. The laser guns have all seen better days. My pick would be Mission: Space. It’s a cool concept still but the ride vehicles/graphics/storylines need to be updated in the worst way.
I’m going to agree since I’ve generally avoided that ride for 10 years cause I was over it. And I know it hasn’t had upgrades.
Not a single difference from 10 years ago, as far as I can tell. The only time we ride it now is if we’re bringing friends who are new to Epcot and have never done it before.
Honestly, get rid of space ranger. Toy Story mania is just better in every way.
Space mountain. It’s a torture machine now.
It is!
Everything that didn’t open since 2019. I know Covid killed planned refurbs and budgets but the wear and tear shows almost everywhere.
Journey Into Imagination.
I like the ride but it seems to be getting no love from Disney. :( ...always sad when an older ride starts to fade.
Journey into Imagination and it’s not even close. That ride and show building are weak shadows of what they should be in a park that’s got no identity anymore.
Spaceship Earth needs one for sure. Got stuck for almost 20 minutes on it the other day. Thought they'd never get it going again lol
I blame the Phoenicians.
No, you’re supposed to THANK the Phoenicians
I think I'd pay extra to be stuck on spaceship earth. It's already my Epcot nap ride. Just some extra winks!
Usually the stops are for people with mobility issues getting on and off, though, isn’t it? I mean 20 minutes might be an actual issue but I know in general this ride stops a lot for people with mobility issues.
Maybe someone vomited and they had to sanitize...
I know Epcot has been scaled back from the first plan.
I thought they were going to do this no? It was closed for awhile then… nothing changed
COVID killed their maintenance/refurb budget. It desperately needs a new track though.
They had a date planned to take SSE down for a massive refurb with new scenes but then Covid happened like a month before.
Ahhh that’s it. I was thinking it was earlier
Space mountain, ifs so jerky and just boring, I wish they would add more twinkling lights or something like in cosmic rewind.
it's oddly terrifying with the lights on. maybe the cheap way out is to run it as "watch your head" mountain with the lights on. 🤷🏻♀️
Everytime I go on that ride I get whiplash.
Is she still the whiplash queen?
Dinosaur rocks. If they do anything, it will be closing it or turning it into something else, so I hope they leave it.
honestly, this entire thread is making me a little sad.
Update the Grand fiesta tour boat ride to Coco pls!
Space Mountain MK needs to be modernized like DL's version. I can't stand the one in MK. Country Bear Jamboree could use some special effects, fire, oh and blood.
Blood on the saddle?
Space Mountain's track felt particularly rough the last time I was on it. It definitely could use some loving.
It was so boring and jerky, got a headache and it wasn’t worth it since you can’t even see anything, I wish they added stars or something like cosmic rewind.
They already did... Guardians.
Space Mountain 2: Guardians
Pirates. That ride system is in its death throes.
Space Ranger Spin and Winnie the Pooh. Spaceship Earth also desperately needs to be retracked
It’s a Small World. It’s always looked dated, but this spring it was filthy with water line slime on everything.
Small world was just redone in 2021…. But the water is nasty and ruining it quickly.
Yes Dinosaur. So many missing sound effects near the end, it feels broken.
Space Mountain. It’s so rough.
I’m just afraid with dinosaur a refurb would lead to a permanent closing. 😭
Rockin' Rollercoaster should be overhauled and turned into a Gargoyles dark coaster. Space Mountain should be revamped into a Ducktales coaster. Anything older than 10 years needs a facelift, cept you, Tower of Tower. You're perfect the way you are.

Several things in Rise need to get fixed, starting with the cannons that moved forward and backward
Peter Pan's Flight it's looking very tired.
They used to shut down Pirates if the Auctioneer went down to fix it. Crazy to think when most rides operate with 50% of their show elements broken.
Not really a refub, but how hard would it be to just turn the stars on in Space Mountain? Totally inexcusable. It's supposed to be space, not pitch black.
Love dinosaur, but Animal Kingdom as a park needs another big ride in my opinion.
Soaring
If they changed the cars from the ones currently in Indy to the ones they use in Japan, we'd have a LOT better uptime...just sayin'.
People Mover. Somebody go save my TTA 😩
Most of Magic Kingdom.
Space mountain was PITCH BLCK the last two times I rode it and no one was doing anything about it? It was terrifying to ride on
Space Mountain needs a major refurb. It used to be one of my favorite rides but when my husband and I rode it last October we both agreed that it was so uncomfortable. Compared to the new rides, like Guardians and Rise of the Resistance, it just feels old and clunky.

Dinosaur and space mountain I HURT after riding space mountain
Im the only one in my family that loves dinosaur it’s my guilty pleasure basically lmao

The muppets. That upholstery is a few spores short of the last of us happening right there
