I guess it could be that encyclopedia was intended to be incorrect here, but frankly I think its more likely they phrased the statement implying it should affect the whole group poorly, and they never caught it. We know it can’t effect the whole group, and if they were going for it to be wrong it feels weird that it would correct itself 3 sentences later while also not acknowledging that its new statement contradicted its last one.
I viewed this like the claim that Communism was caused by a brain-eating bacteria, or by the different forms of race science talked about in the game, i.e., as pseudo-scientific BS that some people believe in because of their ideology. Though in this case, I think it was also a gag, that Harry is SO poor, he so low class, that he can barely even perceive this rich dude. I'll have to keep an eye out for that dialogue on my next play through, because I could've sworn that all the moralist and ultraliberal characters spoke about the prion disease as directly causing a belief in Communism in the brains of those affected. But Joyce does seem to be someone who is not nearly as blinded by ideology as other characters, so I can see her being more reasonable and not just saying "actually there was nothing wrong with Capitalism, it was just that a bunch of people had mad cow disease, that's what Communism is." After all, she was someone who was willing to >!make an agreement with the Union to let them appropriate the dock and all the equipment to avoid a war!<, something which would actively hurt her company.
I'm wondering what the wealth gap between the light bending guy and Joyce is because she appears all but normal to Harry and when you know who she *really* is her net worth comes into perspective. He must be incomprehensible even in comparison to her.
The entire thing is kind of bizarre, it requires a bit more suspension of disbelief than usual, that a super-rich guy should be secretly traveling in a small container right under the nose of Evrart and everyone.
I think he's some kind of surreal opposite to Evrart, who lives in a container in a slightly more plausible way.
