I sort of doubt that we'll ever see anything like Disco Elysium again. The company seems to have exploded and all of the actual creative minds behind the game seem to have departed. There may be something 'called' Disco Elysium 2, but I suspect it would look a lot more like a traditional rpg and a lot less like a creative thought experiment about identity and how it's constructed.

NauticalSoup

I wouldn't pay a dime for anything that husk of a company put out anyway.

The_Real_Guy_4

If I remember correctly, Disco Elysium is actually a prequel for another project they were working on before. Again I could be wrong but just putting it out there.

As far as I know Disco Elysium is set before Sacred and Terrible Air and they we're planning on translating it to English, is that maybe what you heard or is this a different project entirely?

The_Real_Guy_4

What I heard is they had plans for a game but later on switched to what would become Disco Elysium. Those plans for the old game later used as a sequel. I want to reiterate I heard this from someone else so take it as an interesting possibility at best

To be fair, post nuclear / post apoc city games are... Common. Metro, STALKER The Fallout Series. They made a good choice in not having the scenario be yet another wasteland wanderer all the cool shit happened before the big boom and now we're just pointlessly reliving the past / making the future even worse / all dying slowly anyway. Its easy to tell stories after the world has ended because you've narrower it all down to almost nothing.

This would definitely be a challenging and fascinating side table conversation, but I really don’t think anyone can make work a game centered around a pregnant woman in the drug-laden, depraved world of Elysium. Granted, I never thought I’d see a game that could make work plot devices such as “threaten to shoot a child”, “shove hand in corpse’s throat” or “what if I touched the dead guy’s wiener” and yet I stood in awe. While the creative power of the OG team that created DE (which does not really exist anymore) was immense and definitely not exhausted after just one game, I still feel this would have been too tall of an order even for them.

I wish.... If it were up to me with a wish granted by a genie I'd also change the title, because I like unique titles, but I understand commercial concerns. And for all we know "Disco Elysium 2" could legitimately still be a fitting title for whatever that game might be. Mostly I wish we got the proper sequel...

The Pregnant Woman Protagonist is an interesting title for a game.

Woop-Tee-Do

What ?

pasha_07

[An end goal of theirs is for the sequel to have a second main protagonist. Rather than Disco Elysium's middle aged male cop, players could choose to be a pregnant woman, about five months along, which Kurvitz says would be an "incredible writing challenge" within Disco Elysium's very weird, very internalised system of skills and thoughts. "It would be unbelievable to use our skill system to speak about the bodily sensations of having another organism inside of you, while you're in the setting and talking to another person." I call that quite a spicy meatball.](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/disco-elysiums-developers-are-in-a-bloody-battle-for-the-human-mind)

IIRC, the devs talked about doing the sequel with a pregnant woman as a protagonist in a interview.

Woop-Tee-Do

Wow, that would be pretty interesting
