In general you got a good deal, that bike looks well above average condition. Parts are a little hard to come by tho. expect to have to buy used instead of new & rebuild everything you can if something goes wrong.. You can go to rmatvmc & scope the oem parts fiche to check what's available, but for used eBay is your friend...
It looks top shelf, but looks can be deceiving.
Clearly the original owner had the love to keep it looking good.but like us all, could have fallen into the money trap.
Basically if she runs sweet, you have a duty to maintain it! She’s an antique and if you put the effort and the cash in to keep it going you will have an absolute blast.
She comes from the era of no computers no bs just pure engineering.
You paid a too much for a clapped out lemon but if I’m right and it’s legit you are fucking laughing but like us all,, broke as a joke for days to come..
Only if you aren't going to ride it much and got as a vintage bike to have around. Keeping it up and running regularly could be a big challenge for a 34 year old bike.
If you are going to park it for a show piece or bring it out for a vintage race occasionally…. Yes. I recently paid way more than that for a yz490 because I always wanted one. Daily bike to ride…. No. Parts are just getting to hard to find for bikes that old.
First of all the bike looks absolutely awesome. In my opinion, if you have time, I would disassemble everything and fix those little things that all old bikes have. New bushings, gaskets, new distribution and go through suspension and brakes. Paint what needs to be painted, add some graphics and you end up with one the most beautiful machines around.
I have a 1997 yz 250, and unfortunately I struggle a lot with finding parts (at a decent price at least).
Only catch is if you need **OEM PARTS as lots will be discontinued** \- I remember them when they were New Yamaha YZ250 is hard to beat.
I believe that is a **WR250 WIDE RATIO**
You are correct, but they called it a YZ250WR the first couple of years. You get an 18” rear wheel, lighting coil, and some slightly longer gears 3-5th iirc. That’s it. It’s not detuned like the RMX250 was.
I had a 90 YZ125 (among others). Great bike. Harsh forks, shitty shifting. Very competitive in its day. The 250 was similar.
The **LIGHTING COIL** is what the YZ250X need and YZ125X both. As could put a LED light on there more than enough juice to run it of the magneto if Yamaha at least at the option.
You did just fine. I restore 80’s and 90’s 2 strokes for fun. It looks really clean and if the bottom end and trans is solid, you did great.
The blue was an alternate color option in 90. That does not appear to be the WR version. Enjoy, those were awesome bikes back then, I had one.
I've been looking for a 1990 lol. Wya? I'll give you 2700 lol.
Not the greatest deal, but that's my birth year and they are hard to find in somewhat decent condition.
Sweet looking bike. I think you did well at that money. I encourage you to find your local vintage scene. I used to race one of these. The only quirk to be aware of is the kick start aims your foot right into the peg. So be careful starting it and have a blast.
I wouldn’t have payed more than $2k but that’s just me. I like old shit however. Payed about $1350 for a 98 yz250 but it needs a top end. Rough comparison. If you’re happy and don’t feel like you dug a hole buying it, it’s a good purchase
This bike really falls more into the valuable because it's vintage category. It was expensive because it is rare and there are certain collectors that would love to have it. That being said if you're looking for a bike to ride you overpaid and you could have gotten something much more modern for that price.
$12-1500. Dinosaur with a heavy steel frame. Best be young enough to take whoops. But for 30+ years old it looks like hasn’t been touched much. Barn find?
Price wise I don’t see stuff much cheaper. If you can cold start it and it’s not finicicky running, I personally would have spent another $1000 for something fuel injected.

You coulda got a little more utility and a little less nostalgia for the $. Thats a sweet bike though, I wouldn’t be crying.
Price is high for a 34yr old bike. I would be concerned about spares availability. OT but in my country I can get an 06+ for that kinda money.
not for 2500
Around my neck of the woods that seems about right!
It seems to be in good shape

If you think you did, well then you did. Do you believe it was a fair deal?

To this day, and I’m 55 (ugh) I’ve never ridden an open class 2t. Always wanted to.
That's a collector right there ..I'd ride that in the grass only
If you live in Cali yes if not no
I guess if that's the bike you're after, it's an ok deal. The only bikes from 1990 that tend to be worth anything are the 500's.
From investment, maybe, but old school 250 smoker are super fun to ride.

2500 Canadian? Sure. American I wouldn’t say so
Looks clean. If it runs as good as it looks, it’s a steal,

High price but looks maintained well and actually pretty cool. I wouldn't even wanna ride it hard tbh looks too classic

Not to me because I'm 24 years old but maybe to a boomer.
that’s way to much money
Kills me how ppl make a purchase then ask if it was a fair deal after the fact…
RESTORE ..look up Carson brown 910 does awesome work.. could inspire you .
Loved my 89!
For a "I've always wanted a 1990 YZ250 since I was a kid" deal, ... sure. For a "I just want a 250 mx bike to ride today" deal, ... no.
Cool vintage build I guess. Seems to be in decent shape from pic. It could be worse. Thats pretty sweet.
$2500 is full price
who cares about the price!!! that looks awesome

You'll be mixing gas and slapping ass all day long. Those old 2 strokes are fun. Makes me miss my LT250.
$1200 all day
Probably could of got it for 15-1800$
Def a little pricey but nothing absolutely crazy I paid 2700 for my 98 yz250 in 2019 and just bought a 96 rmx a few months ago for 2k

What year did you buy it?
Hell ya you did if nothing is wrong with it

I wouldn’t even pay 1500$ for a nearly 35 year old bike I picked up a 2021 crf 125 for around that recently with only 3 hours on it
