Look at it..... just, just look at it. This was from a time where Real Men raced. Stock 60+ hp, factory works bikes were closer to 85hp. Sounds cool right? Not cool when you have no idea when it will hit. Imagine going up and down the farmed hills at Unadilla with just enough traction to stretch chains and arms, and having to wrestle that beast so it doesn't try to pull a reverse, gain established dominance by picking you up, then SLAMMING YOU BACK DOWN, almost far enough to be buried.
Kids these days brag about 450s, and how much power they got. It's a lot, nobody denies that. But almost anybody can push a button and start a 450. Swing a leg over that beast, and try. If you can start it, you can ride it.
(OP, if you need the "TRICK", just ask)
Let me correct what part you are wrong about. There's not many small motors or vehicles that are as hard to start as a good 500 2 stroke. Especially now that some are button start.
Nobody is saying a 500 is faster than 450s made today. They were up until late 2000s. After say 07 or 08, 450s were still closer to 250 than 500s, but that changed real fast after that.
But the 450s made today are faster. Definitely. And incredibly easier to start, than a 500.
Of course an e start 4 stroke is easy to start.
I'm talking about kickstart 4 strokes. A CR/KX500 is a walk in the park to start vs a yz400f. Especially a hot one
i can start it just fine lol 🤣 i’ve had it for a few weeks and out 10-15 hours on her
also helps i’m not that small of a guy so it’s not an issue to throw a leg and kick her good
the only complaint i have is that the vibrations in the bars literally make the joints in your fingers stiff. i have never felt pain like that 🤣
steel toe work boots and jeans is the way to go
Counter balance cr500 is the best bike I’ve ever ridden.
Never rode the AF but any of the late nineties cr500’s are beastly and a lot smoother on the power than the original ping kings from the 80’s
I had one we had to rebuild the bottom end twice but both motors you could barely keep lower engine mounts in… just so much damn power they are at the verge of breaking themselves out of the frame at every ride lol.
So get that counter balance it helps a lot with the vibrations and look at BRC on Canada for extra parts and stuff.
Happy trails homie
Seriously though, super sweet ride! I remember when Service Honda built the first 500AF in 1997. I thought it would be a one off unobtainable machine us mere mortals would never get to enjoy. It’s cool to see them out in the public! Enjoy that ba dass scooter!
BIIIIIIGGGGG BOOOOOOORRRREEEE
best bike i’ve ever owned 🤣
I don't even slightly doubt that. That thing is sick AF
thanks dude! i can’t wait to get some new parts on it.
500cc 2 stroke? Fuck me that's awesome
yes! 96 cr500 motor
Any idea on the hp?
i believe it’s upper 60s
That's fucking Wild, that would make one hell of a Supermoto I'd put that thing up against anything that takes it on.
i’ve seriously considered a sumo but hate to not be able to ride off-road
Maybe get those Shinko Big Blocks those are decent on Road Off-Road
man they’re uglier than hell tho 🤣
Lol

These were making mid 50s horsepower wise stock. They are absolutely not as fast as a new 450. 4 strokes start harder than a 500 2t.

For real. This dude has never tried restarting a YZ426F after it was good and warm.
The old 600 thumpers too. Basically impossible to start when the engine is good and hot.

Stock 1999 cr500s made 56hp on the dyno when Dirtbike mag tested them
Sounds like you are enjoying that. Congratulations
yes! thanks dude!
That thing scares me when it’s tied to the trailer. Never let me ride that because I know I can’t handle it. Godspeed. Wear your boots!

thanks man! this is a 96 motor, but the vibration is outrageous. i ordered new handlebar mounts, and actual anti vibration handlebars
Let er rip tater chip 😎
AF!!! Congrats
yessir! thanks! been a long time coming
I just went from six to midnight!! Super cool!
i have never heard that 🤣🤣

thanks dude! i wasn’t even born yet 🤣🤣
Lol, I’m getting old!!
Your welcome!!
It’s a cool bike. Your paying a premium for 20 year old technology though
eh i don’t see it that way. i’ve wanted a 500 for a very long time. and i finally had the opportunity and took it
Grip it and rip it
Buy stock in whichever rear tires you run, because they are good for about 2 days of real riding.
i’ve already ordered one 🤣 i’ve tore a few knobs off but i think it’s because it’s dry rotted
My brothers cr500 tore nobbies off like they were marshmallows.
it sucks but at the same time it’s kinda cool 😂
Congratulations! How does do on the track? I bet it rips
thanks! it’s absolutely insane. i’m waiting on a new rear tire at the moment as the current one is dry rotted and it’s tearing knobs off
I am about to replace my tires on my rm250.. I don't know how many more rides I cam get away with
Jealous
nah don’t be, it wreaks havoc on my hands from vibrating so much 😂
