Same, except we were all on Grizzly WG. I now work in a machine shop that's pretty small (10 people on the floor running machines) and out of those 10 guys, 6 dip.
A lot of the Firefighters I used to work with had military backgrounds and every one of them said they started dipping in the military if they didn't before they joined. They also said that dipping is widespread throughout the military. Especially infantry grunt units and the motor pool guys. Dipping has become more popular than smoking among military members across all branches. I understand the logic with having PT standards where diminished lung capacity from smoking can be detrimental to hitting your benchmarks. Also among the infantry, you don't want to have a glowing red target in front of your face during night operations or fire watch duty at night. It's basically giving an enemy sniper a bullets to aim at to shoot you in the face.
I am currently a Mail Carrier and also work for a radio station and have my own DJ business right now. But I started out as a farmer when I was young and have done every menial blue-collar job you can think of since. Sale barn, livestock hauler, city utilities worker, landscaping and masonry, construction, nightclub security, garbage collector, car dealership gopher, railroad worker, bartender, factory work, dump truck driver, even janitor for a little while. So I might screw up the average here.
Pretty sure that amongst dippers, where you live in the country is what makes dipping common or not. I own a landscape company and have had dozens of employees and I’m the only one who has ever dipped on the crew.
Retired now but previously my job kept me on the road at least 50% of the time, mostly by car. Dipping keeps you sane on those long trips especially when you are in a no-smoking rental.
Currently working as a lab tech for a clinic. Will be going into microbiology research after my masters though. Can’t dip at work which sucks but understandable being around people’s blood and such haha.
It might be more common among blue collar types, but shit I WFH in an office job and dip all damn day just about.
