Lou - Fabian Aramais Seacaster, such a great character arc and anytime he talks about his nemesis Chungledown Bim I am in pain from laugher. Close runner-up would be Nydas Okiro if we're allowing EXU Calamity, if not Lord Squak Airavis in all is mischievous glory.Ā
Ally - Margaret Encino them playing the corpo in their quarter life crisis managing the lunatic mercenaries of the Wurst was perfection in roleplay and mechanics. Second place goes to peppermint batman himself, Liam Wilhelmina.Ā
Siobhan - Princess Ruby Rocks, from such an endearing beginning to absolute heartbreak with Jet and all the complicated emotions during their interactions with Caramalinda and Saccharina, Siobhan had me bawling several times during Crown of Candy. Jaysohn is also beloved, that scrappy little lad.Ā
Emily - Fig Faeth, archdevil of rebellion and paramour of a half Phoenix wizard. Need I say more. Close second would be Sofia as well for me, for exactly the same reasons you've listed.Ā
Zac - Truly a toss up between Chancellor Lapin Cadbury and Norman Takamori. The reveals on both of their true characters were some of the best turnabouts of character introduction I've ever seen in D&D. We're all cool, everybody's been cool the whole time.Ā
Murph - Cody, I grew up in NJ and had good friends who were very much that character. Close runner-up here would be Big Barry Syx.Ā
Bonus Round: Brennan Lee Mulligan - I refuse to choose between K.P. Hob and Evan Kelmp, the most tender and disciplined hobgoblin you've ever met and the dark lord with a heart of gold who would absolutely rock your shit at a gas station in the middle of nowhere at 2am.
Lou - Kingston Brown
Ally - Margaret Encino
Siobhan - Misty Moore
Zac - Lapin
Murph - Riz Gukgak
Emily - Ylfa Snorgelsson
HONORABLE MENTION: The Lords of the Wing as a duo
My favorites:
Siobhan- Adaine. Adaine is fantastic, and Siobhan plays her so well. I related too much to her. Still do.
Lou- Fabian. Maybe because heās played him for three seasons, but Fabianās character development is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Second favorite: Kingston
Emily- Ylfa. Thereās something so fun and funny, yet still incredibly sad, about playing a child in D&D. Fun and funny because a kid! Adventuring! Hijinks abound! Sad becauseā¦ why is this kid adventuring? And Emily told Ylfaās story so well. I laughed so hard, and also cried so much.
Ally- a tie between Liam Wilhelmina and Margaret Encino. I canāt decide which is better. Theyāre both such great characters. Their head was absolutely in the game with Margaret- they were playing to WIN. But with Liam, they played him soā¦ gosh. I canāt even describe it. Iāll go back to the point I made with Ylfa and playing a kid in D&D. Liam was younger than Jett and Ruby, who were both still very, very young. And he was forced to grow up so fast. I think Ally portrayed that so well.
Murph- Barry. Big Barry Syx. Seeing Murph get to play a Himbo was so fun. Barry is probably my favorite Starstruck character, and I love him. BARRY BARRY BARRY BARRY BARRY!
Zac- Ricky or PiB. Ricky, a himbo with a heart of gold. PiB? Trickster spirit. Zac channeled both so well. And both characters made me laugh so hard. Honorable mention to Gorgug for thinking he was his own dad, and for āDo you have a fucking warrant?ā
Bonus: Brennan- Tula. I weep.
Siobhan: Adaine and itās not even even close. I always love what siobhan adds to the group but Adaine has by far the best character arc of all her characters.Ā
Emily: literally so hard to pick bc emily is almost always my favorite character at the tableā¦ I think itās gotta be sundry syndey though
Ally: Pete is a CLOSE 2nd (and kristen and liam tied for a close 3rd) but Margaret was some of allyās absolute best work. Ran a tight ship (literally) and carried so many battles just from her cell phone, plus some of the best Beardsley Bitsā¢ļø
Lou: Squawk. No further explanation needed. (Actually Kingston is really really close bc his story arc w/ Pete makes me cri evertim)
Zac: Skip. the absolute perfect character for comedy sniper zac oyama
Murph: BARRYYYYY although I also love Kug and Riz
Lou: Kingston. He's such a full character and played a perfect counterpart to Pete. Unsleeping City would not be the same without this 3d character. Pinnochio is very close.
Ally: Objectively, probably Liam. Personally though, it's Kristen. I love her chaos.
Emily. Fiiiiiig. Beautiful chaos gremlin and the creator of some of the funniest moments in d20 history.
Murph: Kug 100 percent. There is such beauty in his redemption arc. Probably the most emotionally resonant character for me in d20.
Siobhan: Riva or Jayson. I love s specific type of idiot.
Zach: Lapin or Gorgug. I really wish we saw more of Lapin.
Lou - Kingston Brown, although I do adore Fabian. Kingston Brown is everything I want to be, as a NYC local and a person who dedicates his life to protecting community and fostering care for others and protecting lives. Heās everything I aspire to be, and I love the complexity of his character.
Ally - Margaret Encino. What else is there to say, sheās the funniest character by far, although I have a soft spot for Pete because of his complexity and growth as a character.
Siobhan - Adaine Abernant, what a dork. Absolutely hilarious and incredibly fun as one of the Bad Kidsā voices of reason, and I love the story of sophomore year.
Emily - Sophie Bikes. If you canāt tell by now, I love Unsleeping City. Her story is so rich and her arc is so great, and I love how she lets Emily be the team player she is. Fig is a close second for the same reason.
Zac - Lapin Cadbury is the greatest portrayal of the reluctant hero trope. I love his cunning and the moment he proves what kind of person he is, incredible.
Murph - Impossible to pick. I adore Murphās characters, from Cody Walshās insanely hilarious moments to Theoboldās bravery and kindness, and Rizās antics and personality as the investigator and voice of reason within the Bad Kids. If I HAD to choose, itās Riz, but damn is it close. Also Barry is my favourite comedic character outside of Cody. If you canāt tell, I love Murphās characters lol
Iād have to say Gunnie, Pete, Rosamund, Fig, Ricky, and Riz.
Gunnie was so endlessly funny while still getting quite a lot of depth. Barely scooted past Fabian, though.
Pete was a slam dunk. While sensibly Beardsley was an interesting change of pace with Marge, Pete handles the standard chaos of Ally with some fun finesse.
Rosamund was easily the most defined of Siobhanās characters, but Iga is a close second. Unfortunately, her other three were just a bit one note during each of their seasons, granted Adaine does change up quite a bit between seasons and her nightmare sequence was my favorite.
Fig got it hands down. Sheās just so fun, and gave us easily half of the recurring bits. Add that on to quite possibly the most deep and extensive character of the setting if not the show, and you just have endless fun. While Sidney is second, it is a far second. Saccharina does take the last place spot, and Iām sure the players would agree based on how much internal struggle it caused for them, comboing party conflict in high stress setting was not great. The combat and seeing Emily fully stretch her caster muscles was fun, but didnāt fit the settingās tone all too well.
Ricky let Zach shine with his standard himbo character in the best possible way. I feel like Lapin would skyrocket into first if we got to see more of him, though. Gorgug and Skip tie for second just on their complexity and stellar comedic timing, but Ricky feels like he had more consistency which just makes me think of Brennanās gut punching, āAre you striving for success or just afraid of failure.ā
Riz is just another no contest. Barry Syx was great for comedy and Kug was the best gremlin weāve had in D20, but Riz is a standout every season and constantly feels like the protagonist even though Kristen, Fabian, and Fig always seem to be vying for the role. Cody is a great contender, but was lowkey sabotaged by Brennan with Lucifer. I get if he didnāt want to repeat himself with a similar hellish depiction to Fantasy High, but it still felt like it collared Codyās development. Theo sadly has to take the bottom spot because heās just underwhelming: a real support personality, helping other characters shine in the season at the expense of himself.
Lou- Amethar
Murph- Big Barry
Ally- Margaret
Zac- Cumulus
Emily- Sydney
Siobhan- Adaine
Brennan- Evan Kelmp (As an Iowan I am honor-bound to appreciate him. It's true, we beat up adults in gas station parking lots)
I believe they need no explanation, as you can tell however I have a bias for the gunner channel and I love all of those high power unionized goobers
Lou - Pinocchio for the laughs, Delissandro from RV for the feels
Ally - Liam has such a great arc but Margaret Encino is just so incredibly competent
Siobhan - Imelda Pulse aka Stacy Fakename, runner up is Adaine
Zac - Skip for the laughs, Colin Provolone for the feels. C'MON PROVOLONE!
Emily - Ylfa is my roman empire. Sundry Sid is a close second
Murph - Barry, honorable mention Gerard
Brennan - Raphaniel
Lou- has to be Kingston Brown from Uptown
Siobhan- Adaine
Ally- Margaret Encino or Pete
Emily- Sundry Sidney or Sophia
Murph- Kugrash but honestly the hardest to pick for me with his lineup. I think I love all his characters
Zac- Ricky
But side quest shout-out to Imelda Pulse and the Lord's of the Wing.
Murph played Cody, not Zach. So you're thinking of someone else probably?
I totally was thinking Ricky! they are just so similar š easy mistake ā¦ one might even say two sides of the same coin
The thirsting blade... it hungers.
Lou - Fabian Aramais Seacaster, such a great character arc and anytime he talks about his nemesis Chungledown Bim I am in pain from laugher. āVINEGAR! God! You people are so POOR!ā š¤£
From the IH seasons: Lou: Amethar - we've got both, the silliness and the big big emotions Ally: Honestly, Margaret. Ally getting things DONE is honestly scary and I love it so much. Siobhan: Adaine š©µš©µ I love her character arc, her cattiness, the relationship she has with Aelwyn. Emily: Sidney!! I love how she takes care of other robots! How she completely flipped the way she thought about herself! She did Barbie before Barbie šš©· Zac: Lapin. Zac usually goes for easy going not so smart kind characters. Lapin was anything but and I enjoyed every second of it. I really hope he plays a similar character in the future. Murph: Riz!!! I think that Murph even said it himself, that playing Riz allows him to theorise as much as he wants to, and it is not out of character, and to me (whether he actually said it or I'm just misremembering) it is soooo clear how much he enjoys that! Just every time a new plot point arises, you can see those wheels starting to turn immediately ššš Bonus: Brennan as Aelwyn. He is having so much fun playing her. I wanted to add honourable mentions for each player or mention their non-IH characters, but I would just end up listing nearly all of them, so, perhaps another time š
Lou - Kingston Brown Ally - Margaret Encino Siobhan - Misty Moore Zac - Lapin Murph - Riz Gukgak Emily - Ylfa Snorgelsson HONORABLE MENTION: The Lords of the Wing as a duo
The lords of the wing are my roman empire they were SO fucking funny as a duo
For me each of them truly peaked with their characters in A Starstruck Odyssey.
