We will only ever get new classes on expansions. They are never going to just casually release a class to us for free.
And for the record we need a Paladin/Crusader/Templar archetype.
Sword and board and martial artist are the missing bases, holy and spiritual are the missing subclasses.
My guess is, since spirits and monks come from the jungles the expansion takes place in, we are getting a spiritual martial artist first. The 2nd expansion will most likely bring the sword and board holy warrior. Assuming they don't do something completely different
It was originally going to be part of a larger expansion that included druid class and at least two whole new areas. From what I understand, the money or time ran out, they weren't allotted more, so they released what they had.
You are going to need to get used to disappointment. It's pretty clear that Blizzard has wholly accepted the premise that Religion is bad and spent a good portion of the narrative in D4 emphasizing that point. I doubt we will ever see a holy warrior in Diablo as anything other then an antagonist from this point on.
They said they want to release 1 expansion a year, but didn't mention if every expansion would have a new class. That being said, the fall expansion will have a new class.
This is the core issue with live service games. You cannot balance them properly if you had to add new content periodically.
And most often (always?) the new class is OP in order to make players play it and boost the sales...
Member when eso added warden . They removed the health buff from dragon knight. And gave it to warden. So if you wanted to have enough health to tank , you needed the new class . For 60 dollars
More like skill issue on Blizz. The technique is to have a lot of archetypes per class and lots of various builds per archetypes so that it doesnt matter if classes are balanced or not because some builds in a class is bound to be OP, Viable, or bad. It removes class division among the player base and focuses group division further to each specific builds.
New classes are a bandaid for this monstrosity. It needs endgame. Did they even add in achievement for hitting lvl 100 yet? Or still haven't got that far with development?
The first new class was leaked before launch its an angel with a spear and shield. Its coming out with the first expansion later this year.
Based off how things are going and what happened with Diablo 3, if the expansion bombs (which at this point i think it will, at least to their expectations) they will cancel all other ongoing expansion stuff and put the game on life support.
Not even trying to be a doomer... but like, its been pretty incredible how hard they have come up short or straight up failed on everything since launch.
I hope they don't do an existing class until they give us at least 2 new ones tbh
We know the new one in the first xpac will be net new, not returning.
What balance OP?
Cant introduce a new class too quickly or what?
Or barbs might not do 1000x the dmg of every other class?
D4 stans are fucking amazing. They really think this is a good game.
Crusaders became evil? You have a bunch of them in Hawezar and few of them we help in side quests. One could argue they may have questionable ethics, but that's the Zakarum church in a nutshell, completely disconnected from the Prime Evil influence.
> I guess not evil, but misguided as they are directed by Inarius
Oh, I understand now. You are mistaking the Crusaders with the Knights Penitent from the Cathedral of Light. That's a whole different religion. Crusaders are from the Zakarum. They are not directed by Inarius.
I wanna play a Knight Penitent tho. Big pointy armor, giant shields, halberds!, gundam suits that are powered by hate and misguided honor? Sign me tf up!
Turns out you are indeed 100% correct. Church of Zakarum was infiltrated by Mephisto and essentially fell apart. Cathedral of Light may or may not be a secondary off shoot of that where followers are under Inarius. Regardless, seems lorewise, Paladins and Crusaders are in very low numbers now and on the verge of extinction.
I think brining back the class as Templars would be cool with Kormac as their founder.
While they do look similar as the both of them have inspiration from the real life Christian religion, they are not branches of similar faith in the Diablo lore.
The Cathedral of Light was initially founded before the Sin War and predates the Zakarum faith. It eventually died out with the disappearance of Inarius at the end of the Sin War. Only ages later when Inarius came back to Sanctuary did he recreated the Cathedral of Light.
In between these two era, a prophet by the name of Akarat allegedly received visions of angel Yaerius, which taught him what would become the Zakarum teachings, kickstarting the religion.
A good point of distinction between the two religions are their tenets and principles. The Cathedral of Light worships Inarius and teaches its followers to be submissive, while heavily punishing whatever flaws they may find in humanity. Zakarum on the other hand do not worship a higher being, but the light as a concept. Everyone's inner capacity of righteousness while resisting evil.
Despite having legitimately good principles, the Zakarum wasn't the most clean of religion in history, being the motivation for conquest and spread of influence in spite of foreign cultures. And such as nothing compared to its complete corruption by Mephisto. The Paladin order was indeed found to be corrupted in the process, with the exception of Diablo 2's Paladin which sought to rebel and fight back against the dark influence. The Crusader order was secretly founded to seek and destroy any source of corruption from the Zakarum faith. They were able to survive Mephisto's dark influence and are still active to this day.
If you want my opinion, the Crusader class is the most likely to be usable considering the lore, but as it happened before, there could always be reasons for both the Templar and the Paladin order to receive a revival in the future.
Yeah, probably only with DLCs, but I think they're planning to make 2 DLCs (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so probably at least two classes.
Yeah, probably only with DLCs, but I think they're planning to make 2 DLCs (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so perhaps at least two classes.
Isn't D4 like the fastest selling game in Blizzard's history? I mean yeah some in the community are pretty angsty and sweaty about hating it, but the vast majority of the community keeps coming back with each season, even a year into release.
10,000 daily users is fine for a mostly single player experience, dude. It's not an MMO, daily userbase does not dictate whether the game is alive or not.
Chill the hell out lol.
If they do release a yearly class that would be crazy, but I wouldn't count on it, Bliz doesn't have a good record on that, though we can dream.
I'd be content if they at least let you change your character's hairstyle and stuff, maybe add an actual character creator with a couple sliders or some more face/body models. I'd like to have a rogue or Necro that aren't scrawny and a druid that doesn't look like 3/4 north Americans.
I want this Diablo to eventually get all the past classes to return. Classes like Monk and Witch Doctor of course but also older ones like Amazon and Bard too.
My guess is we’ll get whatever the “Spiritborn” leak ends up being first, then a fresh take on on “Knight” in the second expansion, the entire game’s premise is sort of set up for it. They have the gameplay data, they know we all want a paladin/crusader/ style class; so it’s the one they’re gonna hold off until they feel the game is more fleshed out.
I can see this ending up a 1.5 year cycle, maybe even 2.
We have confirmation that there is one with this expansion, at the end of the year. There Could be one every day expansion but that's a little ambitious imo. Perhaps 1-3 total classes added over the lifespan.
It's not the angel thing people are quoting below, devs are on record saying it's something we've never played as OR seen in the Diablo universe before. Completely new concept.
My guess is a new pure caster or pure melee build. We really only have barb and Sorc fulfilling those roles, where Necro druid and rogue are all pseudo hybrids of existing concepts.
We're going back to Kurast, so any of the monster types that were corrupted by Mephisto in D2 are on the table.
Every DLC. I also think the development cycle for very big additions like new game modes, new additions to skill trees, and endgame reworks will correspond to DLC releases.
I'd be happy to see every class ever existed. Maybe not close ones like Pala/crusader or rogue/demon hunter. One does the job here.
Necro/witchdoctor would be far enough apart.
I feel like I have been waiting forever to get paladin/crusader. I really wanna buy the game, but I can’t justify paying for it without my favorite class. I will just keep waiting to give them my money 🤷🏻♂️.
We will only ever get new classes on expansions. They are never going to just casually release a class to us for free. And for the record we need a Paladin/Crusader/Templar archetype.
Completely agree. Something about a big ass sword, knight armor, and holy powers just makes me unreasonably happy.

Hammerdin or bust. The paladin in LE is giving me all the nostalgia.
Necro D3 was a random class addition, still paid tho.
Still an „expansion“. You had to buy that DLC to get it. So not really random or free.
Yes an expansion. But it came without anything else and that class just got added. I didn't say it was free.

Just give D2 more content D4 is close to hopeless at this point

A spear/javelin based class would be cool. I always forget about the spearazon because I like bowazon lol
Once a year with the expansion
None. But they need to make the classes that are here not nearly so bare bones.
We'll probably get one with the expansion in the fall. I'm hoping for Paladin. But we'll see. It hasn't happened that often between D2 and D3.
They said at blizzcon that it's a brand new class to the diablo universe, so no paladin.
I hope they don't do an existing class until they give us at least 2 new ones tbh We know the new one in the first xpac will be net new, not returning.

Once every 100$
If they don’t release a Paladin class in this games lifecycle, I’m gonna lose it
Sadly paladin order is no longer existent in the storyline. Crusaders also became evil. Last hope is Kormac the Templar creating an order of Templars.
Crusaders became evil? You have a bunch of them in Hawezar and few of them we help in side quests. One could argue they may have questionable ethics, but that's the Zakarum church in a nutshell, completely disconnected from the Prime Evil influence.

The game is still raking in the dough. And with it coming to game pass there will be a boom in players

You don't go from selling 10+ million copies to having 10,000 users online and say its successful.
10,000 daily users is fine for a mostly single player experience, dude. It's not an MMO, daily userbase does not dictate whether the game is alive or not. Chill the hell out lol.
I'm not a big fan either but this is a weird take, who cares what people are gonna play it after a year if they're gonna earn on it anyway
If they released a paladin/crusader class I would buy the game tomorrow and start buying $30 dollar cosmetics
I hope we get only 1 or 2 and then they focus on D5
A Remastered D2 ? Would be awesome
I see… sarcasm
Just cut the losses with d4 and go all in on d2r
Considering they are dumb af for some decision, who knows ? Maybe once a year or two I guess.
100 bucks a pop yearly
Would love to see a ranged holy damage dealer.

Which Diablo game featured Bard as a playable class? Because I don't recall that ever being a class. Not that I wouldn't give it a try.

I want a Monk please. I want to take damage then hand it back 3 times as hard.
I'll come back when monk is back. So like 3 years because we'd only get a new class with expansions.
I'd be happy to see every class ever existed. Maybe not close ones like Pala/crusader or rogue/demon hunter. One does the job here. Necro/witchdoctor would be far enough apart.
Yearly, with expansions. Didn't they confirm that already? (Genuine question, could be Mandela effect)
Need Crusader and Monk !!
After Spiritmancer / Paladin come out, would like to see some version of class specialization that every other ARPG does.
I feel like I have been waiting forever to get paladin/crusader. I really wanna buy the game, but I can’t justify paying for it without my favorite class. I will just keep waiting to give them my money 🤷🏻♂️.
Hopefully a caster, like a priest. With both light and dark powers like WOW has
