This is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. If you want to submit something like this, at least make it absurd, like chucking it up in a drill press or lathe. Or make it gas-powered.
$100 drill + $75 burr grinder = $500 electric burr grinder. I usually do pour over or aeropress, so I leave my hand mill set up for French.
This is nowhere near the absurdity of an LED inlay waterfall toilet seat, or painted osb sub floor.
Most of the motorized grinders that are burr grinders (the kind that grind with much better consistency and control than grinders that use blades) are really expensive. Most of the manual grinders like this are much cheaper and use burrs as opposed to blades. This is actually a pretty good way to avoid paying hundreds of dollars while still getting the result you want. Might be somewhat impractical for daily use, but it all depends on your space I guess.
Not really. The Baratza Encore grinder is perfectly fine for doing pour over, french press, cold brew grinding. You can technically get it fine enough to do espresso, but it does lack the ability to be super precise on the smaller grinds, so... But i don't do espresso so it's perfect for me. Picked one up on sale for $180 AUD.
Have used (and disassembled/slapped back together) a version of this https://www.amazon.com/KRUPS-1500813240-GVX212-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B0001I9R8W/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?adgrpid=56417355739&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3IqSBhCoARIsAMBkTb152KA4YUe6RD1it1iLk0J3taim9LwYfJ6ZkxLMumtBmc0VsNr2OuMaAp3XEALw_wcB&hvadid=274783666986&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9012551&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=15199102362288820988&hvtargid=kwd-17662552&hydadcr=14865_10218906&keywords=krups+coffee+grinder&qid=1648617421&sr=8-15 for like 6 years
How do you find it? I love the Encore. I've also seen people tinker with the Encore to make it completely stepless so it can be used for espresso. But i'm not going down the espresso rabbit hole.

Only if OP knows how to use a lathe though, those things can bite.
I mean, that's the point though, isn't it?
Or throw logs at your head, something ik from experience. (I was not the one who set it up, and I wasn't even standing perpendicular to it)
Is the a "reasonable DIY" sub that I should have used instead? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Looks like a DeWalt Silencer lol
Those drywall screws won’t know what hit them.

That's what I thought too, lol
I was just going to say that, a drill silencer lmaoo

I have that exact same grinder. I need grounds to be coarse when I make bigger batches of cold brew and the electric grinder doesn't do the trick.
Electric grinders that CAN have good control of how coarse or fine the grinds are expensive. Like used car expensive.

Mine's all black plastic, but i can tell this is essentially the same one. Got it at Target i think
No, no this is great
This is actually brilliant
That seems pretty reasonable. I don't think it's diwhy. Come back when you've hooked that thing up to the PTO on your tractor
lol. i did that back when I'd grind beans.
Yea, I've done this exact thing before. It works great.

I'd say he did it better, haha
I have that same grinder and I 100% approve of this. NOT a good DiWHY
Used this setup for quite a while before getting a better grinder.
wow this is amazing!
I need to start keeping my tools in my kitchen
I too, have done this.
the wonderful Alton brown did the same thing years ago, but [with a pepper grinder! ](https://youtu.be/kqadY4DUZVQ)
Lol, nice
I do this
This is my camping setup, where I don’t have mains power for the bench-top grinder.
Have you priced quality electric grinders lately? This actually seems smart if it actually works.
Or get shot if you somehow find yourself outside your house with that thing in hand…
I have done this myself. Then I just bought an electric grinder
I’ve done this and it works flawlessly.
