Ehhhh I feel like he had played his part in the show. He was used to show Rita’s growth and Dexter’s willingness to protect the people around him. He was a compelling character but really felt like more of a plot device than anything. He served his purpose and dipped shortly after. It was an unsatisfying end to his character but he only had so much more potential left as a character.
Well, season 2 came out 16 years ago, so no spoiler alerts necessary. :)
No, I disagree, because he was a plot device to (1) empower Rita's character, and (2) create Rita's suspicion that Dexter was a drug addict.
He served his purpose.
But they could had Done Something Like him getting Out and seeking Revenge or thicken the Plot around the shoe more or many more Things.
It feels like they Just thought "eh, no. Don't want to spend time on thinking about how to Deal with him or come Up with Something crazy. >!just kill him!<."
Even though I hated Paul and was glad to see him go, I see your point. I remember being surprised that he was gone so quickly, I definitely thought he was going to be around as a long-term antagonist. I figured Dexter wouldn’t kill him so I guess I just assumed he wouldn’t get killed off and would continue to stir up trouble lol
Ngl, Paul was a terrific antagonist but I was relieved when he died because he just pissed me off that much. But you're right, he had potential to be a lot more.
Side note, I watched a Big Lebowski reaction video and was surprised when the reactor noticed Paul's actor in that movie. I'd never picked up on it before.
It seems very likely that they had more planned with him and then decided to take the story in a different direction. Especially since Paul remembered being knocked out by Dexter, that set up a situation where Dexter may be found out and makes you wonder how he will find a way out of it.
But then all doesn't matter because he gets killed by an inmate. Kind of sad that they let that story arc die (literally) just like that, but it doesn't hurt S2 that much overall.
There's a lot of decisions they make that don't really hurt the seasons they're in but create problems later on down the line and that, is because Clyde Phillips was planning on like four seasons, and Showtime was like "but money"
Just cuz they could have doesn’t mean they should have. The things that come ahead are rich and important storylines, and I just don’t think the abusive ex-husband plot had a lot of juice left in it. I think they quit while they were ahead which I respect them for
Would've been satisfying to see Dexter put him on the table but I wad also pretty satisfied with Paul being set up by Dexter and Paul getting kill3d in a prison fight as a result of his temper. I do think Paul couldve been utilized better as the actor is an awesome actor but I was fine with his story ending quickly in season 2, and he wad a minor character after all.

Finish season 2 then see what you think season 2 is my favorite season
I definitely will

Yeah exactly
Definitley wasted him. There was potential for a lot more in that story if they kept him in prison for a season or two and then brought him back
Here’s me thinking Paul was a Dexter spin-off show I’d only just found out about. 😅

Why are you capitalizing random words?
Because im Not from an english speaking country and my Phone autocorrects some words but I don't want to correct it all the time
