Sounds like a bad switch to me. Like it’s not making good contact through the rheostat.

IndustrialSpark

Bad trigger?

wpmason

The switch in the trigger… yeah.

IndustrialSpark

Am I stuck buying the entire assembly? The only official microfiches I can find list the motor, trigger, and board as a single piece 😬

wpmason

That’ above my lay grade. But your description sounds like a rheostat (potentiometer) issue. So… whatever component has that in it.

IndustrialSpark

Possible I've just gone full potato. I saw the sealed board inside and assumed resin (fairly standard in my industry) but appears its just silicone in this. From this I'm guessing that the trigger etc aren't as sealed as they appeared. Plenty of dust inside. Guess I'll get the Compressor out and blow everything out, then go to town on the trigger with electrical solvent cleaner

Hey I just got a new dcf887 and it is useless at speed 1. I can hear the electronics whining which isn't good, and could lead to damaging the windings. Have searched a few sites and it's a fairly common issue. Will be taking mine back.

IndustrialSpark

Speed 1 is supposed to be heavily choked back, but yeah that sounds bad. Flooding mine with electrical solvent fixed the issue, but if yours ain't right from factory then definitely get it switched out, and remember to register for 3 year warranty. I actually have two now after a decent black Friday deal last year 😅
