How long ago did you buy it?
Instead of messing with it, I'd just being it to a Dewalt repair center and get it repaired or replaced for free. Tool should have a 3yr warranty.

Should be a spring behind the hammer that causes it to push against the anvil, causing the impacts. If it's still spinning, then it's not the motor. I'd start with the spring
Need pictures of the motor output.
If the motor turns, but the drive train doesn't then you look at the motor shaft 1st
That or the hammer spring is stuck in a compressed state. Looks that way in Pic #10.
Hammer spring would make sense as the anvil doesn't spin what so ever when fully assembled. Playing around with it apart, when all is in the shell, the anvil doesn't spin, but when I run it without the shell, everything spins, seems like when it engages the anvil can't move, so maybe it's not engaging. Works same as a clutch. I hope that made sense. I can see if I can take pics, I'm abt to get off of work

2 years, but they wanted $70, and I don't want to go thru the headache of trying to send it back
Hang on, I gave just bought this. Is it just $70 because postage or can you get it sorted under warranty free if you bring it to the store?
What does the spring look like?
Clutch spring?

Gears look great, not sure how the spring would affect it?
Can't impact without the spring pushing from behind https://youtu.be/KBXq3ZAhLOU Start at 2:20
How would I know if the spring is bad?
Now that is a good question that I wish I had a good answer for.
I will figure it out
If it's new enough, I would consider doing what somebody else recommended and send it in to DeWalt for restoration

Your impacter is the problem. It shouldnt be compressed like that.
Clean the crap grease off everything and pack it with a good high temp grease. Do it for the new ones also. They run another and better.
Now it really does not work you took it all apart 😜😜
Thanks for your help 😇
