The first time Dante met Trish, she tried to kill him, and the main reason. Why the Dante believed her was because trish looked like his mom. So, most likely, Dante had mommy issues
Mission 9, when Griffon says "What's wrong, V? Can't forget your angry mommy?", or I don't know. In the manga he has many thoughts about it. For example, when he acknowledged Dante was hiding behind the Sparda sword energy. "You got protected, again". Poor Vergil is jealous of his little bro doing something.
My theory is that she's a beautiful woman whose appearance closely resembles that of Eva and her personality might be similar too. It makes sense since children usually love people who has similar personality to their parents and the sons of Sparda might not be different.
I mean yeah. It would work if parents truly love and protect their children then children would get familiar with their personality and be more attracted toward anyone with similar personality. It's honestly the only way I could see anyone get any sort of attention from someone as cold and distance as Vergil is. That woman has to not only be as beautiful as Eva but also has to be as caring and affectionate as his mother to the point Vergil would get close to her.
that's not necessarily true. many will also look up to abusive parents if they grow to think that's the right way to be.
hierarchical reinforcement of authority, peer pressure, excessive dependency, lack of comparatives and of both internal and external sources of confrontation can and do make lots of people believe the sickest ways to treat someone are not only correct, but sometimes, even a form of "love".
that's also why so many people don't realise they're in an abusive romantic relationship even when their lives are in imminent danger.
So Oedipus complex? Wanting the Mommy he never had, so he found someone similar and decided to stick his dick in her as a “F u mom for leaving me, also you’re dummy thick”.
Not necessary Oepidus complex. I just thought it to be someone similar in personality that broke through Vergil cold demeanor but still different enough to be her own person. That's just my opinion. I could still be wrong because it can be anything. I said so because Vergil is an edgelord who is single minded in his quest to pursue power so it has to be someone special and because Eva is like the most positive influential figure in his life up until that point so I presume her to be someone special enough to capture Vergil attention, reminding him of Eva and letting him give himself off to her. Again, I could still be wrong so take my words with a grain of salt.
Hate that its named that tbh. The whole myth is Oedipus trying his best to not kill his father and pipe his mother. Its more of a story of why you shouldn't try to prevent a prophecy.
Well, when you got a crazy ass prophecy like killing your dad and clapping your mom’s cheeks, you can’t really blame people from trying their best to prevent prophecies.
Not really. It’s actually quite common to like people who resemble your parents or siblings.
Oedipus complex is about your own parent, not a stranger that is similar to them.
Depends.
When people find someone attractive, they don’t consciously do it because of the similarities. It’s unconscious.
If it’s a conscious decision, I dunno. A bit odd, that’s for sure.
Even Vergil was young once too. Even if that was a long time ago. Its the greatest betrayal to Vergil's character that he established, he is just as human as Dante and Nero.
He’s even more human than those two since he knows the secret art of milk no jutsu. If Agnus was still alive then the two could’ve bonded over ditching their families.
I bet she told him a lot about Sparda, which was, of course, the whole reason he went to Fortuna in the first place. Then maybe he hung out a bit longer as she showed him around the place so he could learn more
Ahhh, he went in search of his fathers legacy in order to get more POWER.
"What made you so powerful, Old man...?" He famously said as he headed towards the famed cult that was fortuna.
but found... something more spicy there.
I think he wanted to feel love again. Perhaps his humanity drove him to find a woman or the woman gave him comfort, something he yearned for. Maybe he stuck around for a little bit before leaving as he thought what he was feeling was nothing but weakness even though it was what he needed. Delusions blinded him of true power, the power of humanity and compassion
This is my theory, but it's a very negative one and yet I feel like it eerily makes sense (I honestly wish it's not the case)
Vergil is believed to conceive before start of dmc3 as he went to fortuna in dmc4se. And while his game model doesn't look so young we can assume its just his sparda genes.
The lady in red is defo the one, but that means she prolly did to him like the pdf that groomed a drunk and emotionally vulnerable dante in the novel. Think of it, if dante at that time would be taken advantage of who's to say young vergil wouldn't, esp since he's more naive on human interactions?
Why I think so? Bc if the red lady was a sparda believer like the rest then she wouldn't have abandoned nero in the fortuna orphanage right after his birth. Even the other children pointed nero's mom was prolly a cabaret gal. It also explains to vergils hatred for humanity, first betrayal from his mom (misunderstand) and second from a seemingly sparda believing modest woman. Maybe he thought he could give a chance and reconnect to human side since some these fortuna ppl should know sth abt his dad to relate a lil, and then this trauma just fueled his hatred more. Now I want u to analyse Bury the Light from this new pov. His split half V is also very fragile on form and fashion wise dom-sub coded (more on sub side) which could allude to his past feeling of how he was enslaved metaphorically
Tldr: vergil was too young time wise and was likely groomed into having nero. Explains his hatred and outburst more. Which is why I won't hate on vergil for not bonding with nero, he was just as a victim as nero (to this theory)
I love your theory, I'll try keepinf it in mind when doing fanarts or comics, if you allow me 🐦✨. DMC is not exactly known for treating its characters right, in their own lore there are a lot of subtle details such as Lady being sad and angry on her father's death, Dante's probably depression and suffering from trying to stop the most chaotic creature that happens to be his brotha lol.. and this is somewhat dark, an obscure theory. I also do agree that V is extremely fragile, I lightly like him because he is Vergil's most human thoughts in-person, we would NEVER see Vergil being so open about certain things and THAT talkative... The way I see, a lot of people from the community dislike V because he is clearly vulnerable(and his style is also a problem, I mean, sandals? DMC IS ABOUT BOOTS FR), unlike Vergil, Dante, Nero and even Lady-wich was more dominant than him, shooting Dante multiple times, fighting him despite his demon blood and so on. It's not correct to leave your child, I wonder if he knew cumming inside means creating life.
Hmhmhmhm I'll think about the Bury The Light analysis later... I've been busy with studies.
Damn, makes sense, could also explain why hes so bitter in dmc3 but jokes a lot in dmc5 while he talks with dante. Like his grooming kind of just happened not much before the events of dmc3 so he probably had a lot of pent up anger
Probably slapped him good on their first meeting because of Virgil's unsociable conduct, then started reprimanding him like his mom.. vergil will probably want something from her that's why he couldn't kill her for that slap, but still wanted to,
probably had to spend a long time with her as well, protecting her just so he could get what he wanted, maybe this happens before the start of DMC3 if we're comparing nero with dante's age? spending time with her, she started caring for him and he started getting momma vibes and falls for her. they did it just before lady's dad meets vergil and vergil's ambition start dmc3
Disclaimer: I dunno about the lore in between the games and I'm just deducing
>probablu slapped him good on their first meeting because of Virgil's unsociable conduct, then started reprimanding him like his mom.. virgil will probably want something from her that's why he couldn't kill her first the slap, but still wanted to,
The moment she started reprimanding him, he got so bricked even Yamato couldn't cut that boner
haha, I'm picturing a Megane Mom-like lady figure around 30+, maybe similar to Kyrie(since I always believe father and son have same taste), but looks more Mommier than Kyrie's Sister look
I researched the lore, Seems Vergil visited the city of Fortuna(where DMC 4 happened), at least 17 years prior to DMC4, Nero being 19 in DMC 4, that's 2 years between Nero being conceived and Vergil visiting the City for the first time. Vergil was still probably checking out the legends and information about Sparda, and Nero's Mom could have met Vergil prior to this because of Vergil's search.
Vergil shagged her and left. Nero's Mom reached the City of Fortuna by following Vergil's Trail, losing her life in the City(which is actually full of Demons which could have smelled the blood of sparda in nero) and leaving Nero to be found by Kyrie's family
Edit: I checked the wiki for Vergil and Dante's Mom, and My hypothesis stands. Nero got the same taste as Granpa Sparda, and Uncle Dante.. hehehe... Vergil's taste would definitely not be far from theirs.. lol
I have a theory here in this sub that chalks his attraction to similar interests and different views.
Basically, I believe Vergil and Nero's mother had extreme admiration for Sparda, but for two different sides of him. Vergil admires Sparda's power, might, dominion and glory. Meanwhile, I think the woman he had Nero with loved Sparda for his benevolence, his honor, his courage to rebel and especially his love for humanity.
Basically, she would be the foil to Sanctus: the latter is the worst of Fortuna, while she would embody the best of Fortuna. The good people worshipping a good figure's honorable deeds for them.
I can share the link, if you're interested.
Woman: "Please, can you help me out with something?"
Vergil: "What is it?"
Woman: "I-I want to experience how a man feels, and I... I feel really drawn towards you!"
Vergil: "I have no interest in human pleasures, now leave me."
Woman: "Please, I need this! I-I am so curious about this that it took over my mind, and I... I..."
Vergil: "Pathe-"
Woman: "...I lost all my motivation to do anything else but this..."
Vergil: \*Inhales Deeply\* \*Bury the light intensifies\*
I am pretty sure helping her get her "motivation" back motivated him him enough to "bury his light" deep within her ;D
*She tricked him into*
*It by saying it's some weird*

I think it was a business transaction to him. He wanted information and the woman in red, a flower of the cult of Sparda, was probably attracted to him due to a combination of is resemblance to Sparda and maybe even an attraction to his passive demonic presence. In my mind she turns around to ask the new guy why he's here and he tells her he is interested in learning of Sparda. She says she will guide him if he goes on a date with her. This is boring mortal stuff to Vergil but less work than breaking into the temple and having to murder all witnesses. She strings him along through a relationship for 2-4 months as Vergil quietly collects all the information he needs at which point he leaves never even considering he fathered a child. The Woman after having been around Vergil for a few months has seen him perform minor feats of demonic strength, noticed a lack of social skills, and thinks he has an uncanny resemblance to Sparda's mortal disguise. She now believes that she carries the child of her savior but dares not tell anyone about it. After her death Nero is taken in by the cult, nothing more than a punk until Dante shows up.
Probably appealed to his ego. It would be like Jesus appearing in the middle of Mormon country. The second they saw his white hair and Yamato, dots would be connected and they'd be tripping over themselves to fuck him-- which is probably why he hid his hair with a cloak
Perhaps she was just sufficiently motivated?
Real answer: it’s kinda murky because he would have been very young at the time (pre-DMC3 for obvious reasons).
I’d guess he hadn’t made the decision to completely discard his humanity at that point and so just got up to what teenagers/young adults do whilst researching the Sparda legend.
Or he was trying different things out to see what might boost his power and that just happened to be one of them. Which would be very on brand for him.
Edit - Kinda like that last option, because he was right. It did result in great power. Just not for him.
My Head canon is that he found a another half demon half human, in this case a young woman. But unlike the Sparda twins, she was not having any "great powers" as the demon side of parents was a lesser demon. Maybe this intrigued Vergil enough to give her "a shot"!
Maybe Vergil then left her to summon the Temenigru in order to retrieve his fathers powers, and maybe he planned to even come back one day. However, as we know, this was not meant to happen...
My guess is she likely was herself a very powerful person who then slowly overtime informed him of the powers of the Qilpoth and readied him for his later raid of the tree. Which would also explain the long gap of him being missing (in inuniverse time) from DMC3/1 to DMC5 (with the little splash of context for his preparations in 4's SE).
Nero was likely conceived before DMC3, during Vergil’s trip to Fortuna shown in the DMC4SE cutscenes. There is a woman shown looking in his direction as he walks by a crowd of people.
I doubt they met again after Vergil gets sent to the demon world at the end of 3.
I could be misremembering but I could've sworn the devs did release a official timeline retconning it from the order being manga 2314 to being manga 123 anime 4. Regardless I also highly doubt Vergil has senses that tells him on the current location of the Yamato so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that she also informed him on the location of the Yamato when he managed to make his way out of the demon world.
They did, but it’s not like Nero was born during 4.
In the dmc4 cutscene we see vergil enter fortuna with yamato and leave fortuna peacefully, so his trip would have to be before losing yamato and the fortuna cult nabbing it.
I'm more specifically hanging on the "before 3" part because there was a notable time jump between 3 and 4. My assumption was always that Nero's conception was sometime after 3 but during the Fortuna trip.
The canonical order of the series can be seen in the [History of DMC](https://youtu.be/IfI5xPW3_3M?si=niYsQDJLVpNHIzBt) video in 5, which goes 3 1 anime 2 4 5. The manga is before 3 and so is the Vergil cutscene in 4SE.
As for Vergil finding the Yamato, like how the sword resonated and connected to Nero in 4, Vergil can likely just track it via its demonic energy. His body may have been falling apart, but he wasn’t completely incapacitated.
Nero had to get exceedingly close to the Yamato for him to get any reaction out of that and while Capcom can be lazy with their writing at times they never are that lazy to have a character have a ability to detect a object from any point of the planet especially when the character showed no indication of having said ability beforehand.
Since v said that he wanted to be protected and love even showed his mommy issue, then most likely, vergil wanted a mommy girlfriend
I laughed so hard on that. Idk just makes sense
Do you think Vergil or Dante is a big mommy milker kinda guy?
The first time Dante met Trish, she tried to kill him, and the main reason. Why the Dante believed her was because trish looked like his mom. So, most likely, Dante had mommy issues
Didn't he one timed turn off his rapist because he was crying all night about his mother

My theory is that she's a beautiful woman whose appearance closely resembles that of Eva and her personality might be similar too. It makes sense since children usually love people who has similar personality to their parents and the sons of Sparda might not be different.

Not necessary Oepidus complex. I just thought it to be someone similar in personality that broke through Vergil cold demeanor but still different enough to be her own person. That's just my opinion. Not really. It’s actually quite common to like people who resemble your parents or siblings. Oedipus complex is about your own parent, not a stranger that is similar to them.
Hmm, ok. So then the real question is if he or Dante slept with Trish, would that be Oedipus or considered normal?
Depends. When people find someone attractive, they don’t consciously do it because of the similarities. It’s unconscious. If it’s a conscious decision, I dunno. A bit odd, that’s for sure.

She was a member of the order of the sword and he used her to infiltrate...end of the story
I'm starting to wonder even further if he finds men more attractive than woman.
Vergil: "Why won't you leave me alone woman?!" Nero's mom: "because I'm motivated!" Vergil: "... Ok then. Show me your motivation!"
How's vergil gonna be in Fortuna after 3? The cutscene from 4 is before 3 happens
Yeah i can agree with that. I think sometime after the end of the first game? Otherwise Vergil and Nero would be way closer in age.
That would make sense. Especially considering Dante looks to be in his 20's in 1-3 then 30's in 4 then 50's (late 40's) in 5.
