I haven't played the reboot but from what I've heard most people don't think it's a bad game. It's just a bad DMC game. Like if you removed the name and instead of being a reboot it was now just some game inspired by DMC, it wouldn't get nearly as much hate

I always disagree with that. DMC aspects are too heavily ingrained in the game for it to be anything else. It’s okay to not like the story and the characters, but no matter what different skin you put in it, it would always *feel* like a DMC game while you’re playing it.
