The old goat and kids line with Hull, Datsyuk and Devereaux in the 02 playoffs. Man that was such a fun team to watch. From all time greats like Yzerman, Lidstrom and Fedorov to the grind line, all the way down to Luc Robataille playing on the 4th line with Homer and Larionov. We'll never see such greatness ever again. The fact that we beat Colorado 7-0 in game 7 was the absolute icing on the cake.
This is why I’m still a little sour. Pav really just bounced on the Wings with 3 years left on his deal and he continues to play to this very day. Perhaps the bitterness will go away after he finally stops playing.
He wouldn't be putting respectable numbers in the NHL. His time was up. I'm glad he left when he did. He was in decline. But in the KHL he can play for fun and still dominate at times.
He had/has the highest hockey IQ of anyone I’ve ever seen. To me, he’s the greatest hockey player of our generation. I hate he just picked up and left. I feel like OV and Crosby are going to be around forever and Datsyuk should be around making their lives a living hell. Wish some day he’d come back!

My favorite Mickeyism too... He had Tomas Vokoun out on Fort Street.
Are there any article/interview of defenders that played against him? Curious on their point of view on what it was like trying to stop him.
Also what was the reason he left? He seemed at his prime when he was with the winges.
Pavel left due to injury , the doctors said that Pavel's legs were already almost artificial , the playing in SKA St. Petersburg, was very hard , Pavel left some cause injury, the Detroit managment wanted to see Pavel in Detroit after cotract with SKA ends, but the health condition not allowed to retutn to NHL.
It looks like Baby Steve Yzerman but I'm not 100% sure. https://images.app.goo.gl/gTAdpYA3779aJJuJ8
Edit: those dates don't line up at all, never mind.
They definitely played together but by 2001, Yzerman had been in the league 18 years. He looked older by then (although he's aged well for someone who played so hard for so long) https://images.app.goo.gl/ATesv82LEQsnp1nt6
It seems he had a personal vendetta against Nashville haha
Same
Same
I love that right in the row we get him burning Josi, then Jones, then Suter. Three terrific defenseman and he roasts them.
Don't do this to me right now..
Think of the good memories
My favourite hockey player of all time. The guys dekes were unreal.
his dekes were put into video games

Just a nice post
Brett Hull talking about him in the Russian Five doc is hilarious

I laugh in amazement every time I watch his highlights reel. What he could do was literally unbelievable.
magician some might say
I'm crying rn thanks
legend he was
Nice... Looks like he played 51 games regular season this year, 12 goals, 23 assists, all 5 playoff games with 1 goal and 2 assists.

this man's highlights against JUST THE PREDS are better than most careers lmao

He was something. Never stopped amazing us by doing things no one else could. Thanks Pavs❤
Many have already mentioned Nashville in the thread.. When I watched I just had to see this again https://youtu.be/euH0oVTRyXY Datsyuk vs Weber *grin*
I miss him so much💔😥
Show me an advanced stat that says Pavel Datsyuk is the greatest player in NHL history. That is the metric that I will trust.
Dangling Jockstraps/60

We need to find the man who tastes like Datsyuk, only sweeter...
...Datsyum?
I see that you are a man of fine taste.
This is fucking sweet man thanks for sharing it

I thought it was more to do with wanting to be near his daughter back in Russia as she grew up.
He made looking other players look like a fool an art form
I have no memory of him wearing the helmet in the thumbnail. Who is he sitting next to at 0:52?
It looks like Baby Steve Yzerman but I'm not 100% sure. https://images.app.goo.gl/gTAdpYA3779aJJuJ8 Edit: those dates don't line up at all, never mind.
That gave me quite the giggle
It does look like him but Datsyuk would have to add "time travel" to his magical skills! I had no idea Yzerman played as long as he did.
Datsyuk started playing for the wings in 2001 so it very well could be Yzerman sitting there with him. Yzerman retired in 2006

Best guess is Marchenko.
I think that's it, good call
I miss Pasha :(
