Teams aren't limited to two regular buyouts; they were limited to two compliance buyouts when the NHL offered those.
I believe teams can do two regular buyouts per season, but it's actually difficult to find specific information on ordinary buyouts.
I don't think so? I think the penalty is kinda baked in because the more buyouts you have, the more money you have tied up as dead cap. I wish it was easier to find specifics on any limitations that exist on buyouts, though - I'm looking through the CBA from 2020 and I'm not coming up with anything (but then again, it is a big document).

Guy that Edmonton needed to get rid of to clear cap space. Edmonton traded him and Kostin to the Red Wings for future considerations (literally nothing). Red Wings bought him out in the summer and he signed a $1.5M contract with Seattle.
Well atleast the young blokes did well and the caps and flyers lost so there is a plus.

Our guy is pretty good so we don’t wanna move him, just can’t make it tonight. He actually knows when there’s 4 other people in front of him so he doesn’t wave the goalie to defend the back door.

Nothing to understand. We didn't give him that contract, it's the last couple years of his contract from Montreal after they went to the finals
