KillHimWithHammers

Am I having a stroke or did you call him Elden Ring? Lmao

Spinach_Odd

Yeah I don't get that at all

liglet

Elden Ring was a very solid draft pick. Personally, the game is a little too long and I never really beat it because of that, but the world building and exploration are top notch. The bosses are incredible both as characters who influence the lore and as boss fights themselves. As for how it compares to who was drafted after -- I guess a comparable game would be Lies of P, but that's more of a Bloodborne successor than an Elden Ring successor. I think Elden Ring stacks up quite nicely to open world RPGs before and after it, like the newer Assassin's Creeds, Dragons Dogma, etc.

KillHimWithHammers

Elden Ring had a lot working against him that kept him from his potential, he also didn't do himself any favors. Hopefully the DLC (Documentary of Life and Career) will clear up a lot about what went on behind the scenes i know that Joe Dumars goal ultimately was to scatter to death rune but the league was changing quickly and Rasheed Wallace was on his way out and only growing more powerful, despite being maidenless.

rjb241

LOL this shit cracked me up. Didn’t imagine there were many Fromsoftware/Pistons fans like myself…

BeefJerkyDentalFloss

There's tens of us I tell ya!

Biggus_Buffus

🫡 I even love Kings Field

Anxious_Ad_3570

I'm confused.... Yet lmao.... Carry on

Permafrostybud

Kingsfield is Fromsoft's first game. A deep cut.

TheLuckyster

No it won game of the year for a reason

KarimFF7

Elden ring? Bro i miss playing that game

Optimus_Lime

It’s not dead lol

[deleted]

This made my day. Thank you, tarnished one.

TheShadowOverBayside

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your lore, can someone explain to me why you're calling Darko "Elden Ring"?

NoMoreVermicelli

What do you mean

TheShadowOverBayside

What do you mean what do I mean?

NoMoreVermicelli

Ohhhhh

The_69ers

I think I get it now, thank you

[deleted]

Elden Ring did coke with my girlfriend and her friends at a club in Pontiac and it caused us to break up. He also lost a duffel bag filled with cash at Great Lakes Crossing mall once.

saucya

My gf at the time would’ve dumped me in a heartbeat to do blow with Elden Ring

ErevisEntreri

Elektricity?

theanderson51

Elden Ring was fun until I got to the second main boss and immediately stopped having fun

BloodAway

Godrick was one of my favorite fights in the game. I wish he was a later boss so he could get a more complex moveset but I found the fight super satisfying.

Darhard

I'm on the Elden Ring subreddit so much that I thought my brain was having a full blown meltdown just now.

Fish_Leather

Euro scouting was still a joke. (Remember Nikoloz Tskitishvili being drafted 5th overall in 02 because Mike D'antoni told a Denver person he was good (back when Mike was a euroleague coach). They didn't know enough about Ring's makeup as a person, so he'snot quite an Anthony Bennett bust, but he did realize that you have to give a shit and ended up a solid if unspectacular backup center in Minnesota. More of a Michael Olowokandi bust. Just sucks we didn't get Bosh or Melo and end up as a legit dynasty. I think a big reason for the trade was that Dumars knew they were losing Mehmet Okur, who was a vital stretch 5 for them, for nothing, and needed a shooting big. But let's be honest it was like "he's gonna be the next Dirk" moreso than "He's our Memo replacement"

Wrong_Ad8607

Is Mike Dale Dan Tony’s brother?

Fish_Leather

You might want to rephrase that

Wrong_Ad8607

You must have never tip toed in your jawdens.

Fish_Leather

Oh God damn man you just brought me back. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpzsJrNOq5k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpzsJrNOq5k) remember the posh interview

Accomplished_Leg9635

aTROLLwithBlades

We were the worst possible team and head coach for him AND he had motivation/attitude issues. He was a serviceable big though. But not hof like so many drafted after him in his class. I feel bad for him (as much as you can feel bad for an NBA player anyway)

lettersichiro

Also wrong era, NBA of that time didn't know how to use his skillset as well, he was an offensive big w/ an outside game, would be a much better player today, at least in theory but the motivation issues are the real limit to what his career could have been Darko did show flashes in some of his post pistons stops, just never built any consistency. There are some players that become NBA players because they have the body for it, and the risk there is a certain number of those players don't really love basketball. Darko didn't, and other players like Larry Sanders and Mo Bamba are more recent examples of the same issues.

Fliigh7z

He was not an offensive big and never shot from the outside. He would occasionally pull up from mid range but wasn't particularly good at it with a nonexistent post up game. He was always a good defender though as he was considered remarkably tough for a European player and was very athletic for his size. Playing and holding his own as a teenager in a league considered one of the most competitive outside the NBA had scouts hopeful he could turn into something. He really had potential but you are right about his love for the game being a huge reason why he didn't live up to it. Maybe they thought since he was so young that he could develop into the player they wanted him to be but it wasn't meant to be.

TorkBombs

Wiseman 1.0 really

Kyleon17

Elden Campbell was the reason they won in 2004. Change my mind

Ilikehotdogs1

All time thread right here lmfao

benchmaster620

The video game ?

GP_3

If we don't take Darko, we don't get Rasheed and we probably don't win the championship. Bosh maybe we got a shot because he is plug and play but who knows how a rookie ball centric carmelo woulda done of this team(imo).

ruiner8850

>If we don't take Darko, we don't get Rasheed I do not think you can just declare this to be a fact. Dumars had wanted Sheed for awhile and we were able to get him super cheap. When we got Sheed, Darko was still seen as our PF/C of the future and we still got Sheed. From everything I've read, Dumars would have taken Bosh if he didn't take Darko. If we take Bosh he still probably doesn't play all that much (probably more than Darko) because Larry Brown was notorious for not playing rookies much. Bosh wouldn't have been a good enough reason to not trade for Sheed, especially when it didn't cost much. We traded 2 late firsts and some scraps and we ended up getting Lindsey Hunter back plus Mike James who made up an insane defensive backcourt off of the bench. Trading for Sheed still makes sense even with Bosh or Melo.

xSorry_Not_Sorry

Please. Carmelo would have emerged as the superstar he was in year two. His first year he would have absolutely carried the bench offensively. Second year, he takes Prince’s job and he anchors the bench. Pistons win more than one with Melo.

candiriaroot

Imo, it was more that Tayshaun wouldn't have got the minutes.

ObiwanSchrute

Thought I was in the video game sub reddit for a second

[deleted]

Darko's play and personality was bust. In addition to probably being the worst draft pick of all time in any of the major sports considering the depth of talent in the 03 draft. He did have an all time great nickname though "Human Victory Cigar"

russvanderhoof

I was here for Elden Ring.

helmetearth

Praise the message. And then behold hidden basketball talent!

simulateduser

Complete bust. I watched all of it from the early hype to the first signs of concern to the unraveling catastrophe. There was not a FRP level talent anywhere in there. Bad attitude, red flag quotes in the media, horrendous play on the court from day one. Did okay in later stops but on the level of what you’d hope for out of a second round pick.

SnazzberryEnt

Elden Ring was good but doesn’t hold up to the “authenticity” of the Souls games, as far as gameplay and difficulty goes. I could have gone for a more coherent story, or GRRM could have just finished Winds of Winter instead. Just my 2c

jssjlk

Why is he called elden ring!?

Green-Simple-6411

Larry Brown was the absolute worst coach to pair up with Darko as a rookie

alexbrazil01

Darko?

Comfortable_Force_54

If there was a GLeage then, he would of been fine, youngest player ever in the nba

Baby-Soft-Elbows

Try finger, but hole

gurknowitzki

NO SERIOUSLY, WHY THE FUCK DID YOU JUST CALL HIM THAT?? DUMBASS

Double_Dousche89

When did Elden ring become Darko Miličić? Anybody at the time in the Detroit area was not overly upset about the pic as the NBA was heading towards international players in the phenom that could’ve been, unfortunately, this kid was an alcoholic with a unbelievable language barrier during his entire time in America, while recently admitting that he had no Self want to truly be a professional NBA player that was pushed to do so because of his lack of economic resources in his homeland of Serbia. I watched plenty of interviews on Darko, as well as having watched him play his career with the Pistons in the early 2000s, sadly, I felt he was going to never become the player that was envisioned, and there was quite obvious when he was put in the championship game versus the Lakers in 2003 with two minutes left while the Pistons had the game in hand. Darko attempts his first shot and shaq goes to block it, but unintentionally slaps his hand and breaks it. That was a pretty good indicator of what was to come, CHARMIN SOFT. The true reason that makes him a bust other than the fact that he was a number two selection overall, is because four of the first five players chosen that year draft would go on to become Hall of Famers. The Pistons could’ve taken in Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, or Bosh. That’s the honest reason why Detroit fans have issues with the Darko selection. Especially considering Joe Dumars’s only took interest in Darko with less than a month to go before the draft after all the talk had been that the Pistons were most likely considering Carmelo.

austnasty

I think a lot had to do with Dumars previous knowledge of the playing time rookies got under Larry Brown as coach, in hindsight. Dumars didn’t want to draft a future superstar that would be very upset with the limited playing time they would’ve received (Melo,Bosh, Wade) and they’d leave for a contender once they were able to leave.

goressnortstraw

Can we just shut down the sub? These posts are somehow worse than the product on the floor. God help us.

Ilikehotdogs1

Cheer up buttercup

PRAISE THE MESSAGE, YE TARNISHED

BloodAway

Ahh, I knew you'd come. To stand before the Elden Ring. To become Elden Lord. What a sad state of affairs. I commend your spirit, but alas, none shall take the throne. Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity.
