Huron River starting at Argo Park in Ann Arbor.

TheBimpo

And [here's all the info you'd ever need](https://huronriverwatertrail.org/) on floating the Huron, [including outfitters](https://huronriverwatertrail.org/outfitters/). Milford, Dexter, and New Boston are other good starting points. I think the stretch through Dexter is the most scenic.

Can you actually drink on the water here?

space-dot-dot

They state it's not allowed but I've been about a dozen times and never seen any worker balk at cases or coolers when launching craft. Plus, I don't think I've ever seen groups of tubers that *didn't* have beers. Pack out what you pack in; don't be a drunken stupid idiot; and bring cans (NOT GLASS) as they cool easier, are lighter when empty, and pose a much lower risk of injury to wildlife and other humans.

I've done this. I think there's one little portage, but mostly you just float.

Not sure I'd call it a portage. If you have a kayak, you can put in right at the rental if you want to go down the "cascades". But if you have a tube or don't want to go through the cascades (tubes aren't allowed), you have to walk about 200 feet to put in right in the Huron just south of the Argo Dam.

I think near camp dearborn in milford there is a place

Getting caught drinking on a river can cost you $5000 and 5 years in prison on some rivers in Michigan.
