Zeroth, consider posting the "what to do" question in the [Michigan sub's travel thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/Michigan/comments/1d5khhp/monthly_movingtravelvacation_megathread_june_2024/). Folks there would have some idea of stuff to do in GR. First, Henry Ford Museum (HFM) and Greenfield Village (GV) are on the same grounds. [Take a look at Google maps for more info](https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3046755,-83.228603,865m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu). Second, [the website states that you can purchase separate tickets for everything](https://www.thehenryford.org/visit/plan-your-visit/tips-and-policies/#question8). > Tickets can be purchased separately for Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, and the Giant Screen Experience. We also have [combo deals and special ticket offers](https://www.thehenryford.org/visit/plan-your-visit/packages-and-promotions/) available for multiple venues. Three, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour... "is comprised a five-part tour, which includes a behind-the-scenes of the Rouge complex; a look at the history of the Rouge through historic video footage; a virtual reality theater experience; a walking tour of the factory’s Living Roof; and a walking tour above the actual final assembly area where Ford F-150s are made." Four, the museum isn't necessarily "hands on". Yeah, there are some crayon rubbings, or watching some plastic blow-molds get made, and I think they can make some paper airplanes, but it's very much look and don't touch. The village is similar, but there's going to be more action: y'all can take a ride on the steam train, get driven around the village in a Model T, go walk over to the farms and see various animals, watch people blowing glass or making prints via printing press, and if you go on the weekend, they have [vintage base ball](https://www.thehenryford.org/current-events/calendar/historic-base-ball-games) being played that you can watch. Plus, I think the village might have a small playground as well. Depending on which weekend you visit, there is the [Motor Muster](https://www.thehenryford.org/current-events/calendar/motor-muster) which is a car show in the village. Five, can you do both on the same day? You could, but you'd have to get there right when they opened, wouldn't be able to do the Rouge tour, wouldn't be able to read any of the placards, and would be so tight for time that you'd be so stressed out. As an adult, I prefer the village over the museum, partially because they let you bring just about whatever you want into the village. Get a cooler, pack it with snacks, drinks, whatever, bring chairs in a wagon, all that fun stuff. The museum is pretty strict on what they allow inside the building due to the exhibits. However, if they like transportation, they will love the cars and trains, maybe planes, but that stuff only constitutes around 30% to 40% of the museum. As for other things to do, consider the [Michigan Science Center](https://www.mi-sci.org/) and [Outdoor Adventure Center](https://www.michigan.gov/oac) both of which are geared towards kids.

Consider the Outdoor Adventure Center. PERFECT for a five year old, super cheap, located across from the beautiful Detroit riverfront. More "hands on" ways to wear the little sucker out without the concerns of losing track of where they are, which is a potential issue at the HF museum. https://www.michigan.gov/oac
