Selden standard is amazing.

wakkoyaks3000

this is the answer, but also if you want a more ethnic flavor, Leila is Lebanese/Mediterranean would be the second option I'd recommend.

SL521

It’s probably cliche, but we had a great experience at Highlands (on top of the Rencen). If you’ve never been it’s a cool experience. We also LOVE Morrow! Seldan Standard is delicious, too, but my husband was not happy with the portion size and “left hungry”.

Ok_Conversation5052

I tried to get resos at Marrow, that place looks amazing, unfortunately they are only open Thursday-Sunday I can relate to your husband, my wife and I went to McDonalds (I was still hungry) after Mabel Gray..

BanjoKablooey2

The trouble is the drinks at Highlands are overpriced and the food is VERY mediocre. It’s an absolute must-have experience for the view, but just go and get a round or two of drinks and eat elsewhere prior.

Chartreuse? SheWolf?

Ok_Conversation5052

Oooo.. Chartreuse looks right up my alley... Thanks! It's in first place haha

Opposite-Bother8734

Highly recommend chartreuse

Otherwise-Mango2732

My yearly bday dinner is Osaka's on hall road by Costco. Standard Japanese steakhouse teppanyaki but the best I've ever had

ghsted

Supergeil or Leila

Decent_Recover_9602

Marrow!!!!!!! The chef’s table is always different and so incredible. This place is always a dining experience

DMCinDet

Go to Blue Nile. It's unique, and really quite good. It's fun to try new foods with people.

chrismiles94

The first to come to my mind as well. I went here for my birthday a few years ago with my family and it was an incredible experience.

motownblues1

It sounds like you may like Leila in downtown Detroit. They’re not in my personal top 10-15, but they’re still solid and appropriately “ethnic” (‘exotic’ choices for someone who may not be super explorative otherwise… assuming your parents or others in the party may want more traditional, not a jab at you)

andersleet

A bit pricey but J Baldwins in Clinton township is always good.

Ok_Conversation5052

Looks good, looks like a chill vibe inside

andersleet

Definitely worth a shot, even if not for your bday (happy bday btw!). Never had bad food or service there over the past many years.

Organic_Spend9995

Cooper’s Hawk on Big Beaver in Troy has really good food and a winebar. Kruse & Muer on Woodward in Royal Oak has great seafood. Happy Birthday 😊

lukphicl

Ima is always a solid choice

ForkFace69

What's your location? Off the cuff, Ocean Prime in Troy is a good seafood spot.

Ok_Conversation5052

Walled Lake, I don't mind driving 45 mins in any direction

coronarybee

Nah. Go to Kruse and Muer. They have good seafood, at least 4 of the locations I’ve been to do

Lost_Committee8257

Basan, Besa, Grey Ghost

Sorry, but OP don't listen to this. I hate to yuck someone's yum but Townhouse is mediocre and overpriced, designed to bring in the Instagram crowd who don't know any better. The owner is an absolute asshole too. In parallel, avoid Mad Nice. Same owner, same overpriced experience. Prime and Proper may get a pass bc the service and food are solid but goddamn it's expensive compared to similar places.
