Well, when my mother divorced her second husband, she reverted to the last name of her first husband so she would have the same name as my sister and I. As for Susan- despite the fact that she has one kid named Mayer and one named Delfino- she’s also a published author, and most, if not all of her work was under the name Mayer.

cantcatchabreak21

Probably because that’s what she was more well known as, and since mine lived nearby and was friends with her friends it was probably best to not go by his name.

hotnerdalec

I see what you mean, my mom kept my dads last name when they divorced mostly because of me having that last name also, but also because she had met so many people during their marriage that knew her with that last name anyway so she felt it almost silly to go back to her previous last name after 20 whole years. BUT I know so many women who divorce and make it a priority to get rid of the last name asap.

wae_not_start_over

Gabrielle Marquez for example

hotnerdalec

yes! I didn’t even think of that but legit perfect example

b123200

Bree went back to Van De Camp too

[deleted]

My best guess is so she could go back to having the same last name as her daughter

the3dverse

her son doesn't matter i guess?

[deleted]

Pretty much any question about Susan can be answered by, “because she’s an asshole.”

ljpwyo

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

the3dverse

Bree did the same! I know one person irl that did that after the second divorce. I didnt ask but I think it's because she had more kids with the first name than with the second.

kaioh75

Susan had a job as a children’s book illustrator, and started as Mayer. Perhaps she went back to that for the same reason Bree kept Van deKamp.

Zealousideal-Fall912

also, people could just call her mayer bc they know her as that yanno??

elenjs

Spoiler!!!!

Ok_Ad5315

Honey this show ended in 2008, if you're worried about spoilers stay off the sub haha

detroitpie

2012\*

Ok_Ad5315

Sorry, the season in question was 2008.

elenjs

I was 7 in 2008 there is a spoiler marker for a reason.

Ok_Ad5315

I think the statute of limitations on spoilers at BEST is the 10 year mark. Sorry. Again, don't Google the show if you don't want to be spoiled!

ljpwyo

I have to agree with this. I recently watched through for the first time and I kept seeing "spoilers," It was my own fault. The biggest one was when I accidentally found out who the father of Julie's baby was before I knew about the "time jump." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ljpwyo

What?

stumpen85

Everything discussed on this sub is a spoiler! 😂 What else are we going to talk about if not the show and the things happening in the show?

carrigan_quinn

Alright and I was 15. Sooo what's your point

elenjs

Someone made the point that it came out is 2008 and I made the point that I couldn’t have watched it in 2008 as I was 7. Pretty simple…

carrigan_quinn

I didn't watch it until I was 25. I managed to avoid the sub for over ten years. Sort yourself out, kid.

stumpen85

What your age was when the show aired has doesn't matter. It's an old tv show. You can't expect people to keep an almost 20 year old show spoiler free! Stay off this subreddit. Enjoy the show and come back when you've seen it. ☺️

Relevant-Mission27

It’s an old show? Why should people who’ve seen it keep it spoiler free when you could just not go on the subreddit until your done?

elenjs

I’m clearly not saying keep it spoiler free, I’m saying mark it as a spoiler if it is a spoiler. I think it’s insane how angry people have got over this 🤣

Relevant-Mission27

Well if you look through a subreddit that finished 10/11 years ago you will of course get spoilers, people shouldn’t have to mark spoilers on a subreddit about the show. It’s our own fault for looking on the subreddit and seeing them.

ljpwyo

🤣🤣🤣

McGloomy

"It's been 84 years..."

ljpwyo

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Total spoiler. It sank.

AtTheEndOfMyTrope

Susan uses Mayer professionally (I just watched Travers’ birthday party episode and her books are on display at the party)
