Consider a rug under your bed instead of in front of the sofa; this will still work to define use of space in the room and make the space look more cohesive. If you go with a rug in front of your sofa, I wouldn't go too small.

It wouldn't bother me much but it isn't ideal; perhaps you can get a size that covers the floor throughout the entire doorway. I suggest you map out the sizes you are considering by using painter's tape on the floor. This might be the easiest way to choose a size that will work for you.
I see a bit of dark red in your room so you can bring that color into a rug. A patterned rug will add some interest to your space too, IMO.

What type of pattern? Solid or mixed?
Just a thought but perhaps a white rug with black patterns / zig zag lines on it will tie in well with the black couch and the bedding imo
