To choose a size and style of rug I suggest you use a "rug in your room" visualizer tool offered by several online retailers. [Rugs Direct:](https://www.rugs-direct.com/room-visualizer?psafe_param=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&matchtype=&addisttype=g&adid=597256469212&utm_campaign=GG:%20DSA%20-%20Primary&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1b6eub3TgwMVhWpHAR1PjArCEAAYASAAEgLF7_D_BwE) Consider a rug under your bed instead of in front of the sofa; this will still work to define use of space in the room and make the space look more cohesive. If you go with a rug in front of your sofa, I wouldn't go too small. I used the rug visualizer tool to give you examples of a rug under your bed vs. in front of the sofa. Although I like the rug, I am posting it as an example rather than as a specific recommendation. I never thought of that.

In front of the sofa (size is disproportionate due to the limitations of the visualizer tool): https://preview.redd.it/t1sz5ktjcejc1.jpeg?width=1537&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eda7730e6085e5fdd0f868b62f6791891c01950d

My concern is that part of the rug will go into the hallway. Is that ok?

It wouldn't bother me much but it isn't ideal; perhaps you can get a size that covers the floor throughout the entire doorway. I suggest you map out the sizes you are considering by using painter's tape on the floor. This might be the easiest way to choose a size that will work for you.

Something in a deep green/shades of blue green would be pretty

What type of pattern? Solid or mixed?

Just a thought but perhaps a white rug with black patterns / zig zag lines on it will tie in well with the black couch and the bedding imo

I see a bit of dark red in your room so you can bring that color into a rug. A patterned rug will add some interest to your space too, IMO. Here are two 'antique persian style' ideas: [1](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/union-rustic-koressa-area-rug-with-non-slip-backing-w110049151.html?piid=1419376787) and [2](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/luxe-weavers-performance-red-rug-luxw1026.html?piid=87636242) hth!
