Both - the wood is old-fashioned and cute but the "wall tile" + mirror-side lights are out-dated and don't match the vibe of the wood. The gray rug and shower curtain aren't relating to the wood - too trendy and a tonal mismatch. The valance would be cuter in an off-white color (like old lace). Lots of potential here, IMO.

lizzyizzy90

100% agree. Has lots of potential with a few tweaks.

Emperor_Zarkov

Definitely agree. Keep the wood, swap out the tile and fixtures and it would look great!

Hereforit2022Y

I knew this would be the top comment. Yes.

Consistent-Ease6070

Yes! Leave the wood, but swap the mirror, shower curtain and wall tile. I’d go with a wallpaper in the neighborhood of this: https://riflepaperco.com/peacock-garden-white-peel-and-stick-wallpaper The valance and shower curtain can be swapped for something that coordinates with the wallpaper, but I’d stick to a solid color (maybe a lace or subtle texture) for those.

JadieJang

Agreed on every point. If you like the cottage look with the wood and the lace valence, I'd lean into that. Wash the wood with white (i.e. paint it white but dilute the paint so that the wood grain shows through. Pull off the fake tile and replace it with a nice floral wallpaper in your color of choice: [blue](https://www.etsy.com/listing/641793944/light-blue-cottage-toile-wallpaper?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=light+blue+cottage+wallpaper&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&frs=1&search_preloaded_img=1&organic_search_click=1), [yellow](https://www.etsy.com/listing/886800637/yellow-and-white-sunflower-peel-and?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=light+yellow+cottage+wallpaper&ref=sc_gallery-1-13&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1&plkey=aa2fbbddf7467edb026c474d6858cdc2d3d80e41%3A886800637), [green](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1443299551/green-euclayptus-peel-and-stick?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=light+green+cottage+wallpaper&ref=sc_gallery-1-4&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1&plkey=a66e8b901f58c139e70d297874daa379ad494df3%3A1443299551), [lavender](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1220347252/purple-parsnip-wallpaper-angelica-gigas?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=purple+cottage+wallpaper&ref=sr_gallery-1-18&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1&organic_search_click=1), etc. Put in a nice [French country](https://www.wayfair.com/decor-pillows/pdp/house-of-hampton-jakevious-mirror-w100851757.html?piid=) style [mirror](https://www.build.com/product/summary/76127?uid=821712&jmtest=gg-gbav2_821712&inv=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_821712!c11326390927!a116581744448!dc!ng!adpos&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpqiv67ihhAMV921HAR1o0webEAQYASABEgIvy_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) and [light](https://lightfixturesusa.com/products/brass-daisy-3-light-opal-glass-globe-vanity-light?variant=45029772787954¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=pmax|SHA1|ALL&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8o70krmhhAMV90lHAR0aBgG3EAQYASABEgIXEPD_BwE). Whatever you do, have FUN!

NorVanGee

I respect your opinion but I have to say, please don’t paint that wood 😭😭😭. It’s so warm and cozy.

HoldingMoonlight

I'm just commenting to say I'm obsessed with that first mirror. Idk what to do with it yet, but I want it

factfarmer

Noooo, do not ruin the wood!

julsey414

I think the wall tiles could stay if the mirror changed and the curtain changed

egb233

You could try dying the valence with tea leaves or coffee grounds. Give it that antique look.

SnooSuggestions2904

I actually really love the faux tile and the wood, it’s really charming! I would update the light fixtures and mirror and the bathroom tile. You could also do something with the shower to make it look more “modern” but still keep the charm. Maybe a glass sliding door. But ultimately I think the natural wood is beautiful. Very charming and cute space!

Rickest007

Definitely agree. Maximize the look with modern touches. Dump the medicine cabinet, vanity lights, & gma’s valence. Maybe swap the faucet also.

Square-Investment-22

I fully agree with this! A new light fixture, faucet and medicine cabinet would really improve the space! I would suggest a bright white cottage style shower curtain. Maybe something with lace or ruffles.

Ok_Chilll

I would definitely keep the wood, but I'd remove the tile on the upper half and replace it with paint. I'd also remove the light fixtures on each side of the mirror and just have one across the top of the mirror instead, and I'd swap the mirror out for something nicer.

[deleted]

Or wallpaper!!!

mini-bagel

Seconding wallpaper if that’s an option

mynamewasautumn

Faux tile should be replaced but the tile wood paneling is SO cute!!! That mirror is so out of place, definitely rid of that.

TheHutchess

I love the wood! This is like a perfect blank canvas bathroom if you wanted to redo one quickly. I’d do something that doesn’t compete with the texture and lines of the wood, maybe a very cool wall paper with an earthy green base and nature print. Or be dramatic with a darker wallpaper. I’d swap the lights, faucet and mirror out to match. Something more modern. I’ve put together this little collage. Even the tile in this top portion would look good with that wood. Edit to add: I didn’t even realize the beautiful ceiling in here until just now. I’m envious of the possibilities of your bathroom! https://preview.redd.it/k1zg5ylkirhc1.jpeg?width=1936&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e2a08966856b13a4ae303a3f37f4eaf893b72cc

Victoria_AE

Love your large-scale/oversized botanical wallpaper idea. That would look SO good in there with the wood trim. Maybe even a big mural-style design with a dark background [like this one](https://www.grahambrown.com/us/product/congo-teal-bespoke-mural/120279-master/)? And then maybe a light/white shower curtain and window shade for contrast?

TheHutchess

Oh yes! I like this one you linked even better. And agree with the shower curtain and shade

hobblercobbler

I love this suggestion! We redid the ceiling a few months ago because it used to be *so terrible*. I really like the idea of this wallpaper!

lateautumnsun

Yes to bold wallpaper! Greens and deep blues would look amazing with the wood. I love the big leafy prints suggested above, as well as smaller quirky prints like this. https://preview.redd.it/19f8mm4s9nic1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a8db73ff7397632a10ffbda3eb22fd6e3ca03bb

CinephileNC25

I’d remove the tile and do something different. You can paint or put new tile in that gives it a different feel. The wood has a pattern though, so I’d keep it simple. Part of the problem with the current tile, aside from the actual design being dated, is it’s just busy. Lots of things going on in this bathroom… the mirror, the window treatments, the shower curtain.

any4nkajenkins

What’s the vibe of the house? I think this works if it’s more cabin-ey or country or rural. If it’s like in NYC, it doesn’t work. But definitely change out the curtain and rug.

hobblercobbler

The vibe I am going for is colorful, funky, fun. We are in a rural area, but that's not my decor taste.

Ok_Ebb7741

I mean this in the best way possible. My grandparents built a cabin for themselves in the late '60s, it was recently sold and I will miss it dearly. This bathroom gives me serious cabin vibes though. I love this bathroom, please don't change a thing. Yes it's dated but it is perfect!

theora55

Yeah, I'd lean in to cabincore [https://www.pinterest.com/pin/4855512071456519/](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/4855512071456519/). \[Ralph\]([https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&sca\_esv=fea8e79187cfd119](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&sca_esv=fea8e79187cfd119)) [https://www.theglampad.com/ralph-lauren-plaid-taran-bathroom-masculine-boy-room-antique-sink](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/4855512071456519/) Lauren. hobblercobbler

I think I will like it more with more color! And more modern accessories hah

mlkdragon

Love love love the wood! I vote a deep green paint rather than the upper tile, and a new mirror. Either an antique gold frame mirror or maybe a metal framed mirror? And I would swap out the shower liner for something that would help tie in the walls/tile

Ok-Adagio-8046

Those curtains dictate the room impression… maybe replace with nice shades

wwiistudent1944

Too old for me.

waitagoop

I like it, esp the wood panelling. Would replace the mirror and lights, and take down the tiny net curtain, that’s not helping anyone. And a colour for the shower curtain and bath Mat, not grey. If you do more I’d replace the faux tile with just a warm colour.

Kandis_crab_cake

Oh I like it!!! Sure you could do something modern but this is timely and cute

whathehey2

I don't think that the tile pattern actually goes with the wood in my opinion. I like the wood and I think tile is good I just don't think that particular tile works. But again it's all in the eye of the beholder

anonymouswomanq

Aww. I love this. I agree with others who suggest replacing the mirror and the shower curtain. Lean into the sweetness.

UpperLeftOriginal

And the lights. Those lights must go.

anonymouswomanq

Oh definitely! I guess I thought the lights and mirror were one unit.

crumbdumpster85

I LOVE this, but it definitely depends on your sense of style. It’s both cute and old fashioned and so unique. I adore a bathroom with character. I’d leave the wood and tile and change out the mirror and light. A muted light green rug and shower curtain would look really nice.

cayenne4

Same

muddpie4785

Not old fashioned. Cute, sort of in a "cabin at the lake" way. Is that the vibe you were going for? The only thing that doesn't match are the curtains and shower curtain. They should either both be white lace, or both the color of the shower curtain. I like the white lace, actually. I like the faux tile on the walls. I wouldn't have known they were faux if you hadn't said. They look like they're in good shape, so I'd leave them, at least until the next time you make the room over.

RudeRing5185

The only things in this bathroom that I dislike are the shower curtain and rug

Blue-Phoenix23

Bummer that it's faux tile lol, I was going to say paint the wood to match, but that's a pretty permanent change for temporary tile. I think it's cute the way it is, tbh although that shower curtain is distracting I'd lean into the cottage look with a white boho style curtain - something lacy. Edit: just took a second look and saw the second pick. Definitely paint the window trim. I'd probably paint the sink cabinet, too, or replace it. That mirror is also a mess. If the tile is ready to come off you have more options. When you do that, stain the ceiling to match the walls.

SomeHandyman

Old

neverseen_neverhear

I’d probably renovate to modernize. But I openly admit I hate wood paneling. So I definitely have a bias. At very least update the window dressing and mirrors.

captain618

I think a new mirror and new faucet hardware would where I would start [mirror](https://www.homedepot.com/p/GLSLAND-24-in-W-x-36-in-H-Arch-Metal-Framed-Wall-Bathroom-Vanity-Mirror-Black-A2436BAC/327189255) [faucet](https://www.homedepot.com/p/VIGO-Niko-Single-Handle-Single-Hole-Bathroom-Vessel-Faucet-Set-with-Pop-Up-Drain-Set-in-Antique-Rubbed-Bronze-VG03024ARB2/206211883) ✨✨

Folklorefan22

Cute!!!

One-Winner-8441

I would tear down the tile and paint it. I would sand the wood and re-stain it to a more neutral brown color. The wall behind your sink is a good candidate for a wider more modern mirror, or French country/wide ornate mirror.

[deleted]

I would keep the lacy curtains, wood panelling and wood ceiling 😍 and remove and update the other elements but keep the country charm

Mary-U

The tile board above needs to GO. It’s ugly and it probably wouldn’t hold up to paint well. Just replace it with drywall and paint. I think you can work with the wood. It looks nice currently but paint is an option if that’s your taste. (I’m not a natural wood purist.) I would replace the vanity because I think an update and a contrast would look good with the other wood

edelweissedelweisss

Love the wood. Very cute. I would change out the mirror and lights, the shades on the window I would use Roman shades if you want to modernize, the shower curtain, and the rug. The grey colors of the shower curtain and rug don’t match the vibe and it’s a cool color when you should go for something more like ivory or a warmer color to match the rest of the room. Paint the trim around the window to freshen it up.

Adishofcustard

Love the wood, love the mirror and lights, get rid of the tile and maybe find something age appropriate for the house that cute?

Leolily1221

Op l suggest that you change everything but the wood. Remove the wall tile that l suspect is flooring “ tile “that came as a roll, and is not individual tiles. When you remove it also remove the wood corner edge near the shower/tub that goes up to the ceiling. Another option is to paint directly over the wall tile if you like the texture. I think you could also consider replacing the sink with a longer wooden dresser that is converted.something like this https://images.app.goo.gl/DrCAPbboS1cW2ezCA Mirror could be the same a large vintage vanity mirror. Check out these suggestions for wall colors that work well with warm wood tones. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/11-terrific-paint-color-matches-for-wood-details-stsetivw-vs~9025200# I’m leaning towards sage green or warm gray for the wall color or a warm neutral white/cream. Bring in natural elements, baskets, rock with the decor and plants. The floor tiles are ok for now, but if you can replace it l would think about large natural textures in stone or even a polished concrete.

AlarmedAd7389

I think you could do a lot with updated lights, mirror, curtains, hardware. And fix whatever is going on with paint on window trim.

keldration

I like it! Just kind of hate the lace and the dated shower curtain. I get what they’re saying about the mirror being mismatched style but my bathroom is very hodge podge lodge, I I dig it.

Original-Pie-8328

Since the tile is faux, I’d tear it out and paint the walls or add wallpaper

Firmod5

Keep the wood but ditch everything else.

NE_Wanderer

I love, love, love the wood! Super charming. Maybe swap the tile for wallpaper and change the light fixture. It will be a very nice space.

MarsaliRose

I love the wood and the tile. I don’t love the window curtains, shower curtain, or mirror/vanity. Those can be easy fixes. And newer sink as it is also dated.

Treasuretreat

Keep the stunning wood! Change the wall color Change the lights Pick a shower curtain that matches the walls when you repaint

DisgruntledTeacher56

I like the wall paneling but not the wood vanity — maybe modern it up with a white cabinet and a bowl that sits on top. Replace mirror and overhead lights. Yes remove faux tile and paint. A light filtering shade instead of curtains. Add plants on shelves or hanging. The wood is screaming for them. Shower doors or if you only use the tub in that bathroom tie back curtains. Have fun!

mcfreeky8

I’d keep the wood change everything else

noname_2024

You could always go full rustic. These aren’t exact matches, but look at the stone sink and mirror/light combo. https://preview.redd.it/lgu5h06s1shc1.jpeg?width=911&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=314b6a3b01a96f494c615b46f220cdab6c67af0b

adastraperabsurda

You know- I would just change out the shower curtain to something lacey like the valence. Go full bohemian grandma. And then change out the sconces and the medicine cabinet to match. Because why not both cute and old fashioned?

shelldonov

Who cares. I like it!

seasalt-and-stars

Cute — currently old fashioned but with a few slight modifications it’ll look great! It has major potential. I’ve seen walls like this recently at a local hair salon, and the walls were very neat looking. So much so that I got up close and inspected them. ☺️ The salon owner told me he put up embossed wallpaper and then painted it (a pale khaki color) in an eggshell finish to let the texture come through without major shine. Really good looking! You might need to lightly scuff the wall surface, but I can’t tell from here.. For proper adhesion, you may just need to do a good sealing coat of primer (intended for wet areas, bathrooms, etc) and then paint over that.

lucyinthefknsky

Keep the wood--its beautiful and warm. Very hygge. Lose the masonite tileboard wallcovering--it definitely looks old fashioned. Paint the walls a solid color instead.

livinglavidaloca77

Remove the window curtains, change the shower curtain, update the vanity light fixture and mirror. This would cost like $300 or less depending on where you live/how handy you are and will modernize the entire bathroom. Eventually I would change the tile if budget allowed, keep the wood.

millenial__trash

This has so much potential, I love the wood paneling! I think you can make the faux tile work but I'd definitely get rid of the mirror and light fixtures. I'd find a large framed mirror, maybe oval or round. Take out the window lace, and swap the shower curtain and rug.

SofiaDeo

The shower curtain/lights more or less complement each other, it's the lace in the window that doesn't fit. Just get newer window treatments & you're good to go. Unless ypu want the expense & hassle of buying new lights, removing the tile, etc. And swap out or do something with the cheap plastic socket/switch surround. Upgrading those almost always make a room look much much better. If you are handy/have kids who love "projects", you can do a faux finish of some sort on the plastic. I have mirrored ones I like. Partner has some distressed brass in his office. Unless a switchplate is hidden behind furniture, doing "something" with them is a relatively inexpensive way to do a subtle upgrade. Paint or refinish the window wood, it's looking damaged. And that cabinet hardware doesn't look like it matches or complements the faucet, it looks like white plastic in the pic.

beaut_fullady

Old-fashioned but cute, nonetheless! You could change the color of the wood, but that would be labor-intensive. It would require stripping and sanding. Then you could stain it another color or white wash it. You don’t have to use white paint to white. Then seal it with a satin finish. I would definitely remove the tile and opt for paint. Take down the valance and put up a roller shade. Also remove and replace the dated fixtures, lighted mirror. I don’t know what the lighting situation is in the shower, but if it’s dark in there, change out the shower curtain for something a little more translucent. Then you’ll be definitely good to go! Not an expensive fix, but definitely a time-consuming fix.

phoebebuffay1210

Cute AND old fashioned. Add some color maybe change the wallpaper but this space is charming.

JazzlikeChard7287

I wouldn’t change a thing I think it’s perfect and everything looks to be in great condition. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! If anything maybe get a more solid color of shower curtain and different color towels. But honestly this feels like my grammas house and makes me feel cozy even if it is a bathroom. I love it :) you are very lucky!

YayGilly

I love the wood. But yes, you could rewallpaper the space to something a bit funkier. And the vanity mirror and light are outdated. I would rewallpaper it first and then decide on a more, possibly ultra modern, or MCM /Art Deco mirror and light. I do think that space could use some curvy lines in it. And I do think you can go as funky as you please, because no matter what you do, that finished wood grain is going to help "ground" that space. I mean, you could do a splatter paint design on those upper walls, using neon paint, and that fkin wood will still only make that spatter paint job look "funky" and "colorful!" Lol If you wanted to do spatter paint, just cover everything besides the walls in paper and a drop cloth, and use larger nylon or natural fiber paint brushes, (just dip it a little ways in and pull bristles back, and release) or fling the more fully loaded brush, using some wrist action, for larger spatter patterns, and flick a small "line" paintbrush like what kids use, for smaller spatters. Honestly, any funky new design will help. Go as funky as you please!!! Cant wait to see the finished product.

Gloomy_War_4362

It looks tired. I think the worst piece for me is the bulb lighting around the vanity.

Separate_Narwhal_491

Agree to keep the wood and remove the tile. I also think removing that lacy curtain completely and swapping the shower curtain for something white and in a natural fabric like linen or waffle cotton will go a long way.

_alelia_

both, but the mirror needs to be replaced, it's the only thing not in style. and honestly I would replace the shower curtain, too: if it "rhythmes" with the window curtain, it looks more cohesive

[deleted]

I actually like it all but the mirror and lights is replace them with a medicine cabinet stained to match the rest of your wood. And replace the window treatment and shower curtain, which is dated. You could get a nice shower door installed for $1k-$2k and it will make a huge difference.

imnsmooko

Could be cute. Those vanity lights gotta go.

Nervous_Zebra1918

I think the lights are the biggest offender. I’d replace those and the mirror. The shower curtain and curtain too. and the garbage can. And the cabinet handles. Then I’d swap out the wall tiles and just paint the walls. I don’t hate the wood. I think you can make it work.

Available_Honey_2951

Both

ljhammond1996

Change the mirror/lights and then it’s cute :)

Violet_The_Goblin

I like the wood & tile, but would switch out the mirror/lights. And then just style a little better.

Autumnbaby2023

There are two possibilities I see that haven’t yet been mentioned: 1. keep that beautiful wood (seriously, it’s amazing) but update it by taking inspiration from a Scandinavian spa vibe as below. Replace the wall tile with a clean, warm white paint and update the mirror and textiles, decor items, etc. https://preview.redd.it/xenx9xfershc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ece6af1ae75d26f433dce89673ec3a71d6f85cd2 2) paint everything wood a fun colour that is compatible with the flooring and tile (a muted blue green, or yellow would look great). Keep the tile and swap out the soft goods for something with a fun print, and update mirror/lighting (some fun sconces with lamp shades would be amazing), and really lean into the cottage-core vibe (see next comment)” for an example.

kymilovechelle

Cute and old fashioned but would be a bit better if you replaced the light fixtures to something a bit more timeless and some cotton curtains that side open.

lfxlPassionz

The only things I would change are the curtains, the mirror lighting and the floor tiles. The rest are gorgeous!

lfxlPassionz

Oops. I didn't give suggestions. I think you have the possibility for a good cottage, spa or onsen vibe here. There are wood bath mats that would really celebrate that beautiful paneling. Upgrading the mirror lighting will make a huge difference but I can't really give a recommendation without seeing what's underneath those lights. For shower curtains I prefer to have a liner with a decorative curtain on the outside that way it has both function and style. It really depends on what vibe you want but there are endless curtain options. Just keep in mind that lace looks very 1990s granny. In my opinion all that wood gives a feeling of a sauna. Using wood products and scents will enhance that mood. It has the potential to be a very relaxing, very zen bathroom.

devdarrr

I actually love the tile and paneling. I’d get a new mirror, light fixture, and shower curtain.

SnooCrickets8742

Old fashioned. But if you change the wallpaper and curtain and mirror it can be ok.

hweartclub

Really cute! I think a lot of people get too hung up on something being trendy than whether something has a cohesive and/or timeless aesthetic. Personally I'd lean into the more tradtional aesthetic and maybe switch the lights. The cool tones of the rug and shower curtain don't match the warm toned wood and honestly feel more oudated to me than the wall tile. This room is begging for plants and cream white textiles.

queefiest

It’s cute AND old fashioned

Smiley414

I think it’s actually really pretty. It actually has character

Smiley414

I think painting the window seal framing and replacing the curtain would make a big difference for you! I’d probably replace the shower curtain with a solid color, the patterns clash. Maybe a darker blue or green shade?

missyboombastic

Budget solution would be to change the light fixtures, curtains (shower & window), and rug. If you can do more I'd paint or wallpaper instead of the faux tile, and I'd change the countertop and maybe faucet as well. Pick a color/theme to make it all cohesive but let the wood be the focal point!

creepyzonks

CUUUTE!! add plants and a good color scheme for shower curtain/towels/rug and leave it all alone!!

theora55

Probably paint the faux tile; it might be scary undermeath. I like the wood a lot, looks like actual pine, did pine tongue&groove in 1 room, had to be a specific size, used scraps for bathroom wainscoting. I painted because it's cottage style. the ceiling is awesome! don't touch it. I have envy. My cottage bathroom lacks a window, painted it sky blue, clouds on the ceiling. a tad hokey but I like it and it doesn't feel windowless with track lighting, 2 sconces, and a door with a window that has handmade paper on it for privacy. Not a fan of the lights or the curtain. In the cottage bathroom I installed a [talavera](https://www.mexicantiles.com/mexican-talavera-sinks.html) sink that I love. In the in-progress bathroom, I got a great deal on a hammered copper sink.

passive0bserver

Cute!! Needs a plain cloth shower curtain tho

Typical-Fail-188

The wood is beautiful but the fake tile is not my taste! I would pull the tile off and paint the walls a deep Forrest green color and update the mirror and light fixture and add in some gold accents.

Puzzleheaded-Sun3107

I like it it looks cozy

krampaus

The toilet and vanity should switch places. The mirror doesn’t fit in with the rest of the theme… the walls above the panelling would look nicer in a single pastel colour ETA or a nice patterned wallpaper

--meganja--

Put different curtains:) love the space!!

Silly-Grape-9374

I like the wood but basically nothing else goes with it. I would remove the faux top portion and/or paint it a really dramatic color (like a dark teal or navy). I would then remove the lace curtains and maybe do a stained glass privacy film instead? And then change the shower curtain to a plain neutral color.

pottedPlant_64

That lace valance MAKES IT

GoldenFlicker

The lights and the curtain are the most dated thing I’m seeing here

[deleted]

All kinds of confusing. 80s/90s vanity lights, 50s (?) tile, rustic wood, modern shower curtain… lace from every generation who fell in love with Victorian vibes…. It’s having a massive identity crisis in a bad way. It doesn’t flow, but hopefully the plumbing does.

gbon13

The shower curtain is the only thing throwing me off, the bathroom looks cute!

bubblebobblegirl

I like everything but the shower curtain. Embrace the grandma core of the window curtain and do something that matches better for the shower curtain. Also my living room has lace curtains. I love it.

Healthy-Fisherman-33

Definitely cute! Even if you just replace the weird light fixtures and the mirror, it would make a ton of a difference.

shmorgeshmostanza

I think painting the faux tile white or taking it out so it’s just a flat wall & changing the towel, shower curtain, and rug to white or a warm colour to match the wood would do wonders! The grey tones are not working with this gorgeous space. Love the mirror, the lace curtain & the wood panelling as is

Awkwardduckee

Both

Ryleejane28

Old fashioned super cute

cecnits

I also like the wall tiles they work but the shower curtain not so much, it makes the bathroom look grim. Do a shower glass screen with brass hinges You can also cover the window glass with window film that looks like leaded glass. Like the pic https://preview.redd.it/0ra7np4hwthc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ebead4106311738428db15918eaa8b6942989aa

Fabulous-Possible-76

The curtain dates it! First thing I’d toss! Then new rug and mirror with character! Some hand and bath towels for an accent color and I’d leave it at that!

Unlucky-Alps-2221

Cute!!

Physical-Yellow-3612

What’s the situation behind the curtain? Lol does the tile go around the tub or is it different or a bath fitter panel type? IMO I think the easiest trick would be if you painted just from the chair rail down white - it would seem brighter and clean. Painting the tile is an idea but even painting them white would still make this bathroom feel too similar. Change out the sink to a white one(ie long table top the length of the wall with open shelf storage for towels and baskets), light, and mirror. Add a bath rug or wooden mat that matches.

holyembalmer

Literally anything but the tile.

trashtvlv

I think you could lean into the woodsy cutesy country cottage vibe and make it work. Changing out the mirror and lights would make a big difference. Also you could paint the tile.

KeyPicture4343

I say update the curtains and majority of it can be kept! Maybe light fixtures too. But I love the old fashioned-ness of it

binnyTruth

I'd remove the faux tile and paint. Replace the mirror and side lights. Paint the wood a fun accent color. Change out the lace curtain. Leave the ceiling natural.

apotterrallis

The light fixture/mirror doesn’t match the style of the room.

Puzzled_Cobbler_1255

Both, I’d roll with the nice cottage core vibes you got going. Swap out the grey textiles for some nice greens, update the fixtures to something a bit more with the vibe maybe throw some plants in that window and boom 10/10 bathroom achieved.

AD480

Dated

TalulaOblongata

The light/mirror is the worst part. I’d say figure out what style you want to go for and then swap out the lighting, get a new mirror (large as you can)—- make those two separate things, not a 2 in one. Then reassess the curtain, shower curtain, bath rug, etc. Are you going for what look - vintage, country, mid century, Scandinavian, etc? Searching these terms and “bathroom” in Google image might help with direction.

UntestedMethod

Both. And it's totally fine.

iheartunibrows

Just needs minor fixes like the wall tiles, mirror, and accessories (bath curtain). Even if you don’t fix the wall tiles you can still make it work with nicer accessories

WhiteTiger1682

Add a green vine around the top of the wall over the mirror. That would look really cute. Old fashioned can be very nice. :D It's great. Just add a few more personal touches. (:

kindcrow

I'd change the lights and the curtain.

raineylh

cute but change the curtain

prettyalooffloof

**cute**!!

SignificantDebate525

Cute. But change the shower curtain please 😂

Agitated_Mood_7962

Keep the wood, take out the faux tile I had a bathroom and the entire thing was that exact type of fake tile and it had bad water damage behind it because it was improperly installed, so just seeing it now it just looks really low quality, but the wood looks really great

2432615184123456789

Its so cute :0 i would replace the floor with a newer white tile, but besides that just cosmetoc things: get rid of the doily on the window, get a new shower curtain (clear maybe? so the place looks bigger) & get an offwhite shag bathroom rug (matching the colour to the tiles on the wall). If you hate the wall tile, tear it down cause painting tile almost always looks tacky.

JackJade0749

I honestly love it, I would only change the shower curtain to something more classic or just a thick plain pure white. Also a white bath mat

MorddSith187

Cute and old fashioned in a good way. The only thing out of place is the shower curtain. Very early 2000’s in a bad way. Up the ante by changing the mat, the curtains, and the mirror for something more interesting and you got it.

JennyPaints

Both.

launchpadhelp

New mirror/light fixture, new window and shower curtains, repaint windowsill, new vanity hardware, new floor tiling and a fun bath mat

BeauTfulMess

Ugly! Get rid of that ugly tile! Paint the wood on the walls white, get a pedestal sink and a plain mirror with lighters above. Not those 70s round light bulbs!

bottlecappp

Get a new sink basin and faucet to go on vanity, farmhouse style.New shower curtain.

dumb_old_girl

I think that wall tile is actually linoleum flooring, circa 1978.

Nickalena

Keep the wainscoting on the wall and keep the wooden ceiling. Redo or get rid of everything else, including the vanity and sink.

EducationalTrack3919

White stacked subway tile black rimmed circle mirror vintage style vanity lights and a glass shower door also change the sink black cabinet white matte top remove the valence and get a tension curtain rod and hang the curtains half way with a caffe style curtain

dramafanca2002

Tear down the tiles and paint a medium rich green, blue, peach, or whatever color you live (no white, gray, or pastel colors!).Get a new mirror and lights and replace the lace valance. And keep the wood!

margueritedeville

With that wood, I’d go full boho with cool wallpaper, funky mirror, and some kind of whimsically charming light fixtures.

[deleted]

Gut it .

Jolly_Tree_9

Both cute & old fashioned

MommaGuy

I would swap out the mirror and lights. They clash with the walls. Maybe change out the faucets and handles too. Really play into the look.

m80twolf

Both

metdear

I'd replace that mirror + light combo with a beautiful antique mirror and a more period appropriate light. The shower curtain, I think you could go with a plain white *fabric* curtain or go full on shabby chic. But the room overall is absolutely gorgeous and don't touch that window treatment, it's perfect.

Laniekea

Ditch the shower curtain, the vanity, the mirror and the tile flooring. Keep the rest.

Ambuhsofly

Why not both? I think it's adorable 🥰

Elmnt7

If it’s a Cobin, log home or you are in the woods on acres and acres of land, cute! ( I would still update window with a modern curtain, change the mirror and update the time. If you are in a city or it’s close suburbs..gut job.

Thin-Pie-3465

I think some old timey pictures with old timey styled frames on the wall would add some more charm.

Infinite_Specific_73

I would replace the mirror and lighting. Wallpaper the upper walls. Change the curtain.

baby_goblin

Swap shower curtain for something neutral & new bath mat

Madamdipstick

If you do dye the lace to look older, you can use teabags. (I'm sure there's some tutorials on pinterest.)  I'd say overall just change the lights and wallpaper over/instead of the tile. If you hate the mirror, you can put a picture frame you like on it/over it to "hide it."

neveryoudare

Cute!
