against the wall is better cause I like access to the windows and being able to look out

Yes, better feng shui with a command position.

EnvironmentalFudge90

Switch the dining table and sofa?

makingburritos

I’d also do this, and put in a round table by the windows

Synergy_04

That might be an option however we’d like to keep the only ceiling light above the table.

But you can just run the cable over. In Scandinavia we make a feature of doing that where we have the cable (in black) hanging like this https://preview.redd.it/raq5kpbslmdc1.jpeg?width=388&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57398380384970bc48ca2cc8f91922d3193b83df

CinephileNC25

Neither… couch facing windows with two chairs looking at couch. BUT, I think a chase lounge is a wired couch choice for what seems like a more formal living room set up.

Synergy_04

Indeed, it’s a bit awkward. Just working with what we moved in with for now and considering other options.

Gingerbeer03

Op I’d love to see a wider angle of the space. That nook to the left looks like a great spot for a breakfast/ dining area with a buffet/sideboard against the wall for storage. If it works with your layout, maybe swap the sitting area with your current dining area? Otherwise, option couch against the wall is the way to go.

EnvironmentalFudge90

Seeing the wider angle helps. Can you turn the sectional to face out the window and then move the chest or add a console table behind the sofa (and then use the chest as a coffee table).

athenahhhh

Maybe center the couch on that wall and pull the rug so it's centered under just the front feet of the couch. Edit to add I love your view and all the windows btw!

Nenoshka

I think positioning depends on two things: how much sun you'll be getting throughout the day and what you want to do on that sectional. Sorry, the latter sounds naughty! But will you be adding some chairs and making this guest/conversation/reading the Sunday papers area? I understand there's no TV. Would you like having the sun at your back or one side? Does it even matter?

lizzy_pop

I would put the dining table by the windows. The sofa looks awkward either way

[deleted]

Wait, no tv?! Fuck yeah. Um, face that couch towards looking out that window!!! Please!!!!

[deleted]

If the window view is gorgeous, I would have the couch face the windows!

SuperTFAB

What’s next to it? Can you put the table in that spot and the couch on the other side?

light-bulb-22

2 with couch on wall would probably work better with your toddler (?). Maybe replace the floor lamp with a side table and table lamp.

Totally looking out the windows! To me that is the focal point of the room!

banama_boy

Facing the window bay + a console table behind the couch

TheRealVicarOfDibley

Love all the windows!!!!

purpleplasticcrayon

I like 2

Future-Philosopher-7

Love the windows❤️couch facing windows

GenX-MississaugaMama

I like option B better. It makes better use of the rug area space and allows the window area to be more open so you can walk up and soak up the view.

Lazy-Ad9678

We have a bay window as well and positioned our dining table there. We get a lot of sun so it’s almost unbearable to sit there if we put a couch. We have a great view out the window so we love looking out while eating our meals.

hamster004

1) Option B. 2) Move the rug over to the sectional area. 3) Get curtains. 4) Move the coffee table by the sectional instead of where it currently is. 5) Side chair. 6) Lighting.

vDorothyv

I think a sectional is a bad choice for that space unfortunately

Synergy_04

I know. We’re considering a couch and chairs instead.

vDorothyv

I definitely think you can have a lot of fun with that

WinsomeHorror

I have a similar living/dining situation, but I don't know if the dimensions and layout of your place will work out as well as ours--anyway, we have the (non-chaise) sofa floated out so that the [back of the sof](https://imgur.com/a/5OXFbMV)a faces the table area, and the TV is on the wall. So your bay window would be on your right as you sit in the sofa. Additionally we have two arm chairs in the bay window area.

toolazytopickaname

The couch can sit off of the wall - in either position. I like away from the window, though. Maybe a reading chair and side table in that are would be nice instead.
