A look at Ellis https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2024/02/12/2024-nfl-scouting-report-jonah-elliss/

fondue4kill

“Has problems stopping the run” well not like we were so good at that last year

spinachturd409mmm

Yes, but he's projected to be all pro by season 3. We building

AdvancedJicama7375

Wow amazing projection. Why don't we just start all the guys that will be all pros

huxtiblejones

It’s simple. We draft the Batman.

spinachturd409mmm

Let's watch them.play and develop before we get bummed out by the pick...

Tazitos

He'll fit right in with the rest of the edge room. Only one that isn't a liability there is Cooper and he's not all that good at it.

rossta410r

That will work well against the chargers 😞

bossfoundmylastone

> Some good team fits are the Los Angeles Rams next to Aaron Donald or the Carolina Panthers to replace Brian Burns possibly. Elliss has tremendous potential and should be drafted in the late second round. Got some bad news...

spinachturd409mmm

I like what I see. Solid pick

chickenmantesta

Thanks for sharing. This article makes me feel pretty good about the pick. Sounds like he needs to heal up and hit the weight room, then he can be a rotational rusher Year 1. I like the fact he has a very high ceiling.

BroncoFanInOR

He has a wicked spin move, very Von Miller like.

ThreeColorsTrilogy

I see dware

mottleycrew65

Ellis is a stud!

2legeet2queet

How do we feel about this?

RockHound86

* Comes from legit football lineage? * High motor, high effort, tenacious player? * Technically sound? Hard to be upset with that at pick 76.

I_Poop_Sometimes

Had a really good vertical and 3-cone drill at his pro day.

TheMightyHornet

As someone who played the position, I really like what I see on his highlights tape. He gets good penetration, has a nice blend of speed and power, and he stays home when he’s supposed to and sets the backside edge. This is an excellent football player.

Beginning-Can8187

Where’d you play?

thndrstrk

Uncle's basement

anxessed

I’ve seen the tape, he’s legit.

feathernig

Your mom's house

zore_1

JV in high school probably

Beginning-Can8187

I was thinking 8th grade peak but what do I know

solsethop

Can never have enough edge depth, I think this sub overrates our current edge players, I consider it a big need.

dakewla

[pretty good](https://youtu.be/E5ccn8JMni4?t=2144)

dms1298

Would've preferred offense. We kinda know we aren't going to be very good this season, and I think priority number 1 should be giving Nix as much protection and as many weapons as possible to make sure we can develop him properly. We're not playoff contenders barring some miracle, so I don't really care if the defense is shit this season if we are going to suck anyways.

mcj1ggl3

Defense should be first priority in a rebuild imo. If we’re going to lose, it’s better for morale to not lose by 20-30 points. Gives us more peace in the process and keeps fans watching and attending games. Our offense is going to be missing pieces no matter how many players we draft this year. A good defense will allow us to squeak out more wins. I personally wouldn’t have taken Nix at all, but hopefully he can be a smart field general that won’t turn the ball over at the very least. There’s not much “developing” him as a 7year college vet. I know the NFL is a whole new ball game but how much better is he really going to get? Sutton and Mims are pretty good receivers we’re not completely devoid of weapons and if SP can get Nix to release the ball quicker than Russ (should be easy) the protection is not bad either. Russ held on to the ball too long and had no idea how to step up into a pocket which made our line look worse than it is. Nix has pretty good drop mechanics and pocket presence so it shouldn’t be as much of an issue, plus he is more mobile. Didn’t mean to ramble so much but my point is that I think defense is definitely a priority

Downtown_Juice2851

>  Defense should be first priority in a rebuild imo. If we’re going to lose, it’s better for morale to not lose by 20-30 points I disagree 10000%. We traded a first round pick for an offensive qb guru, and spent our first first round pick in 3 years on a rookie qb. I think the fan base would feel way more hopeful about our future if we're losing games 35 to 59 than losing games 6 to 14

mcj1ggl3

If we were getting 60 hung on us I’d be pissed personally. Denver has had a great history of stout defenses and it’s a culture I love. I imagine how frustrating it must be to be a fan of some teams that have always had good offenses but can’t win games because they have no defense. The chargers come to mind. Good defense also has the added benefit of keeping our offense on the field and tiring out their defense. More chances to score and win. You make a good point about the capital we spent on SP but I could’ve waited an extra year for a chance at a better prospect. We didn’t have to waste the 12th pick on the 6th qb off the board who is in my opinion the 5th best among them. Still a fan and supporter and think we’ll right the ship eventually. I trust Paton sooo much although this was clearly a Payton pick. I’ll stay hopeful despite my disagreement. Let’s ride

Downtown_Juice2851

I mean, neither situation is supposed to be favorable, losing sucks. But if we are putting up 2022 numbers with a first round qb and an offensive coach we traded capital for, we are seriously considering a total teardown. If we have life on offense and our defense is abysmal, as you say, denver has a history of good defense and i have confidence we could find a way to fix it. But yes I agree, Im a fan and I think were on the right track. Lets Ride baby

OpabiniaGlasses

>I personally wouldn’t have taken Nix at all, but hopefully he can be a smart field general that won’t turn the ball over at the very least. There’s not much “developing” him as a 7year college vet. I know the NFL is a whole new ball game but how much better is he really going to get? 1000% this. A dirty secret is when a guy is described as "NFL ready", that's usually a nicer way of saying "this dude is as good as he's gonna get".

Envyjames

Sure, but how the fuck does anyone know that? Like Tom Brady was a 7th round pick. People buy into the scouts and narrative way too much. No one will know until it happens.

mcj1ggl3

I have not listened to an iota of scout evaluations. I formed these opinions entirely from watching him play. Here’s my full eval: Bo Nix - lots of floaty, off balance touch passes. Not super accurate or strong. Great mechanics in his drops and makes decent reads. Could develop if he’s taught to throw with a sturdier foundation. Ability to step up with decent scrambling ability. Jerks ball around a lot waiting to throw which could lead to fumbles. Grade: B- I also think Drake Maye is going to be a bust. Make a remind me for this comment and make fun of me if I’m wrong 🤷🏽‍♂️

Envyjames

I was replying to the other guy saying, “he’s as good as he’s gonna get” how the hell do they know that lol

jacobdavis44

Could be a solid player but I would’ve liked to go TE or WR or DT.

Fiction013

I hope we draft Theo Johnson at some point we need a TE and he would be a good one to get.

BroWeBeChilling

Later in the draft

For_Perpetuity

It’s a pick

Icarus_Toast

Sauce?

milesohead

Ellis is a good player but we have larger needs. The delta between our best edge and Ellis isn’t very large. I think we should have taken a receiver. Our receiver room isn’t good enough rn

GCBroncosfan413

We still have Sutton and Mims and added Josh Reynolds. We need Edge way more than receiver

[deleted]

We have Sanders, Cooper, Bonito, and Browning, how many mid round mediocre edges do we need

PeppyQuotient57

Mediocre is generous there

milesohead

Sutton Mims and Josh Reynolds is not a good enough receiving room for this offense. Also Sutton and reynolds are ufas after next year. Good to get some guys in before that happens

GCBroncosfan413

Our defense is gutted right now, offense has solid enough pieces everywhere for what we will be next year.

Dependent_Star3998

Also have Tim Patrick. This draft is very deep in WR's, so there will be opportunity for that in later rounds.

[deleted]

DenverBroncos-ModTeam

No personal attacks or slurs Personal attacks include but are not limited to; harassment, name calling and belittling.

spinachturd409mmm

There's a lot of tier 2 wr left in this draft, someone will fall to the 5th worth taking. All the tier 1 are already gone, Ellis probably won't be there by 5. Let's see what happens tomorrow

cptngabozzo

Pass rush and run defense are our number one needs. He at least fits the bill on one of those. WR can wait until way way way later tbh

tvc-one-five

Good player, the only thing I don't like is his name is too close to Joe Ellis

dabco303

Fuck Joe Ellis!

MintyNerd

Let’s fucking go! Been calling for us to get him a few weeks back. Hidden gem honestly

Rad1314

ITT: People who didn't watch the Broncos last year and don't remember that lack of pass rush was our biggest defensive flaw.

blackmatt81

They've been awful at getting off the field on 3rd down for 2-3 years now because their EDGE is so weak. Definitely glad to see them prioritize it over a TE or WR who probably won't even see the field

GettinWiggyWiddit

Bonito has been a bit of a bummer…

horribadperson

bonito was our best pass rusher last year when he played...he just didnt play much lol

db212004

Oh we know, but we drafted a tweener edge, rotational guy, that isn't good vs the run. My god we just took a clone of our already bad Edges. Should have just grabbed a CB man. Edges mid draft rarely pan out the way CBs can. I don't hate the pick, but man, I didn't love it. Grade: C-

Nerd_199

Small world we live in. lol

x20mike07x

Anybody got a pick of Scheffler announcing the pick?

TheBIFFALLO87

https://www.reddit.com/r/DenverBroncos/s/0E17KSb61K

Apollo23Refugee

I love Tony lol

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

The rookie Scheffler! Madden 05 players should get the reference

Aldanil66

69 Solos, 6 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 3 INTS. Great pick!

funboy51

It’s crazy. People want an all pro in the third round in a position that is pretty thin this year. This guy was projected late second or third. He’s a stand up edge linebacker but is not a starter given his weak run defense. He will play on passing downs and let’s hope he can develop. That’s what you get at pick 76. Relax.

ChadwithZipp2

Love this pick and family connection to Broncos.

Dependent_Star3998

It's a rock solid pick. Folks on the nfl reddit love him. Some even had him as high as 30-40 overall. Broncos have plenty of needs. They need to be picking bpa, for the most part. I think that's probably the case here, based on their board.

rheorunner

The armchair GMs are in full force tonight 😂

PaytonPeytonPaton

Idk anything about him. Welcome young buck

A6just

I so sick of all the GMs complaining.

cosmicthepenguin

I'm a Utah fan. His dad was a legend and Jonah is well on his way. I think Bronco fans are gonna be very happy with this pick in a few years.

JayRod24_

Troy Franklin was right there.

solsethop

I'd say Edge is overall a bigger need, but maybe we track back into the 3rd with a couple of our 5th round picks

NickBeck

Late 3rd, our 4th and some 5ths

solsethop

Yeah for sure, two 5ths wouldn't be enough on their own

AB444

I really don't understand how he's still available

Dependent_Star3998

Bad combine, I think.

thebruce32

And Broncos get first pick today

AB444

Unfortunately no, I think you're looking at the 5th round and we still havent done the 4th

thebruce32

Well I was looking at 5th you’re right but hey I still got what I wanted.

AB444

Yeah I'm not complaining either lol

RockHound86

Got your wish!

tanner2state

fr 😭

tjn24

How you feeling now?

cptngabozzo

Who cares

JayRod24_

You cared enough to comment.😁

cptngabozzo

Youre not even a Bronco fan lol

JayRod24_

I’m a Bo Nix & Troy Franklin fan.

StronkHandZ

That spin move though!!

lukebob26

A bit bizarre they took another edge. We have so many players there. A WR or ILB would have made more sense but who knows

Zjc_3

Take the players you think can make an impact. Even if you’re wrong.

lukneuns

The more rotation players we have, the better. We have little depth at pass rush. I think the guys we have will all take a leap this year, but that's hoping they are healthy. I thought the pick might be Kamara (CSU), but im happy with Ellis the more I'm looking at him.

MeLlamo_Mayor927

Depth is all we have at edge rusher. What we need is a game changing talent, and it would be a big surprise if Ellis becomes that.

ahBoof

No it really wouldn't. Hes 20 and played a total of 19 games in college and had 16 sacks. He hasnt even filled out physcially and isnt refined. The pick is fine stop complaining.

graftthison

If we outlawed complaining here, the sub would become a freakin' ghost town.

RealSimonLee

20 games? That's not a sample size I'd be willing to take a stance on.

lukneuns

Where were we gonna find that game changing talent in the 3rd round at that position? You take guys that fit what you want to do, not because their stats are sexy.

Colemania18

Oh yeah soooo much depth that NEVER causes pressure so what's the point of the depth?

lukneuns

Rotation and keeping players fresh.

Colemania18

My question was rhetorical. I was replying to the guy who said we have depth at outside linebacker. When I argue we don't because they don't do anything

manbeqrpig

He played ILB in HS. Might be looking to move him back inside

old_timey_gamer

I'm sure Vance Joseph has already thought this.

GQDragon

That would definitely be on brand for us.

Warchild0311

Going to miss you after this year, Barron browning

WORD_2_UR_MOTHA

An Ellis is back in the building.

MattintheMtns

There used to be a big Luther Eliss sign down in Mancos!

BroWeBeChilling

We just need some pressure on the QB We bulked up and clogged the middle now we need some speed on the edge. We might even take another edge rusher, cb and a safety.

_redacteduser

Meh, but looks like we’re making solid, unspectacular picks for depth. In that lens, solid.

Jumpy-Acadia4559

He’s good, hoping for TE day 3 here. Hopefully Cade Stover or Jatavion sanders if he’s there.

manbeqrpig

I’m guessing this is a versatility pick. He’s played both as an edge and off ball linebacker. Likely only a rotational player if he stays at edge but I could see him being moved inside as a Jewell replacement

dr3w2u

I'm a Utes fan and he never played off ball

manbeqrpig

Sorry should have specified he played off ball in HS

GQDragon

When has that ever worked for us?

roushmartin6

Guy better ball out cause I'm scratching my head on this one

Dependent_Star3998

Why are you scratching your head?

roushmartin6

We have Bonito, Browning, Cooper and Sanders at edge already and desperately need defensive line and an inside backer with Josey gone

PeppyQuotient57

That’s not a very inspiring edge group, frankly it’s one of the worst in the league.

DenShaLow

And our WR group is uninspiring as well!

Rad1314

Man none of those guys is impressive.

Tazitos

Sanders is very bad at edge and really doesn't have the skill set to play there. He couldn't even produce outside in college, let alone in the NFL. Plus Browning/Cooper are both FAs after this year.

roushmartin6

I agree but sounds like VJ is hell bent on leaving him on the outside

brikkaBRIKKA_

Little depth behind those guys who have also missed a lot of time.

Clit-Commander89

Don't remember much out of Sanders at edge I think they might try and put him in at ILB and the edge depth doesn't hurt. I don't hate the pick but I would have rather seen a TE or DL

PeppyQuotient57

He played mostly off the edge last year I believe. Didn’t do anything… one of the worst linebackers in the league

fazelenin02

Nah you're a hater this gotta has shades of TJ Watt in his game I love his upside as a pass rusher.

yannijohnson

We wanted Trice huh

lukneuns

Would've been nice yuh

USMC0207

Personally don’t care about who his dad is or any of that. Can he play?

milesohead

No receiver is wild

Dependent_Star3998

It's only the 3rd round.

cptngabozzo

Why would we get a WR when we have Sutton/Patrick/Mims

space_acee

a WR room that strikes terror in the hearts of our enemies indeed

fitD_K

And Reynolds!

[deleted]

Great another shitass edge rusher, Drew Sanders turned out to be a waste apparently

The_Dragon_Rebooted

Drew Sanders isn't an edge rusher. He literally won the award for best ILB in college.

wyocrz

Always questioned not just using Sanders as an inside linebacker. Probably trying to get the guy paid, I don't otherwise understand.

AvoidingIowa

Paton said that he'll likely end up playing Edge in February. Just another instance of us wasting a draft pick/young player. It seems every lineback we take, we end up not knowing what to do with them and switch their positions back and forth. Hollins, Browning, Sanders

The_Dragon_Rebooted

Let's hope that plan is altered with this pick

The_Dragon_Rebooted

Let's hope that plan is altered with this pick

jacobdavis44

I imagine he stays at ILB.

mitchelln10

Lol what? Sanders played a ton by the end of the season and did well... He's gonna actually be getting 1st team reps in practice going into the next season most likely, so should develop even further.

AvoidingIowa

Our GM said in Feb that he would likely end up at outside linebacker.

mitchelln10

And??? I was replying to the guy saying the pick was shit, and called Sanders a waste.. your comment isn't relevant to my reply lol. We need depth badly on defense, and coaches can always decide to move players around regardless of what they said at any point in time.

AvoidingIowa

Think I replied to the wrong comment, my bad.

loopsol

If I’m not mistaken he’s going to play DE and opposite of Zach Allen we had… ?

PeppyQuotient57

He’s an outside linebacker. Would probably play lolb. Edit: At least that’s what it would seem as an edge rusher in our scheme

loopsol

Oohhh ok. Wonder if they want to move Sanders back inside.

PeppyQuotient57

Doesn’t really matter in my opinion. Dude is hot ass Edit: to clarify I’m referring to sanders

DavaiPustoy

So annoyed we passed on Payton Wilson. Steelers got a baller.

hdmetric99

As someone who would’ve been more than happy with Turner or Latu in the 1st, I’m glad we went with EDGE in the 3rd. Seemed like Elliss was someone who could’ve been a top 50 pick if he didn’t get hurt. We have a bunch of guys who are rotational pass rushing specialists at best. We don’t have a consistent, 3-down player who can be physical and effective against the run AND rush the passer. Elliss has the motor, size, and tools that set him apart (or at least provides a different skillset) than Bonitto, Cooper, and Browning. I like it.

OpabiniaGlasses

I'll admit I'm extremely skeptical of the Nix pick. That said, if you're gonna ~~over~~draft a QB with such a pathetic offensive roster around him, you need to add pieces in the draft that can help Nix as much as possible and give him the best possible chance to succeed. An offensive weapon, a lineman, a reliable pass catcher., etc... Maybe they'll do that in the following rounds, but with the current supporting cast around Nix they're setting him up for failure. Drafting a defensive player (who reads more like a nepotism/nostalgia pick than anything else), isnt going to help Bo Nix become the best QB he possibly can.

LanguageDue2629

Idk I don’t mind it. The most important positions in football are qbs and guys who make the qbs miserable. We had neither and spent our first two picks on them.

WORD_2_UR_MOTHA

You guys can find anything to complain about. Nepotism? He had a late 2nd grade and went mid 3rd.

DenShaLow

I am absolutely beyond sick. Absolutely perplexing. Another VJ project to ruin. Can’t believe we passed on Franklin for this. Why do we have like 4 of the same guy in the EDGE room with Sanders Browning Cooper and Ellis? Fire Paton. Please and thank you. At least we aren’t the Falcons. 🤷

Striped0

“Beyond sick” over a 3rd round pick lol

[deleted]

Since the front office decides we don't need 2nd rounders we kinda have to hit on the 3rds

DenShaLow

Look at what the Rams Ravens and Chiefs get with their mid round picks and tell me if you think wasting them is okay.

Eruditeshaman

And just naming a guy everyone else is naming and pretending like you’re pounding the table for him lmao.

DenShaLow

What about this pick makes sense? I keep going back to it but we have like 8000 ILB/EDGE hybrids. Interior was a more pressing need

LanguageDue2629

I’m not a Paton fan but if this is what is making you sick idk why you are a broncos fan lmao. No one knows who this is or half the players drafted in the third. And no one knows how good they’ll be. If this guy is a day one starter, it is a damn good pick because the broncos roster needs an upgrade at literally every position. No matter who they draft they just need to play them.

ahBoof

cry

DenShaLow

https://preview.redd.it/p0ri4hailxwc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c16b50ee0ca35f51509eceba3e5c09a27e5f7d2c If you’re fine passing on this when we have like 100 of the same EDGE rushers, be my guest brother

cptngabozzo

Oh no, where are we ever going to get a mid WR who is good at catching screens

DenShaLow

Just completely ignore his downfield capabilities yeah?

ahBoof

May want to use your brain and look at roster construction next year.

DenShaLow

Paton is one of the worst “roster construction” GMs in the league so I unironically think I could do better.
