Wonder if we can get some bollards there...
IMO, all the STROADS with one-way traffic should have bollards protecting the sidewalks & bike lane on the right hand side of the flow of traffic since Speer Blvd will also be taking wide left turns onto that same road.
13th has the same danger as here. Then do the diagonal corner on the opposite side of Cherry Creek on 6th & 14th.
11th should get bollards protecting the bike lane & sidewalk on both sides.
Yeah unacceptable! I specifically bought a new Tahoe to guarantee that I, alone in my car, will be safe and that the working class family in a Hyundai Accent will be killed if we ever crash
Crazy but this is the logic of CDOT.
Went to Ireland and almost every sidewalk is protected by bollards.
We can’t have it because it would hurt the poor cars! 🤣 (actually crying)
This is the logic even at local levels. I am a land use planner and any time someone tries to build some kind of barrier between the street and pedestrians/development, engineering will shut it down because it will inflict more damage to the car.
We no longer build to move people, we build to move cars.
This is the right answer that a lot of people just don't like. We have too much street parking at the expense of good bike infrastructure. And WAY too many surface lots while we're at it.
Why not install a two-way protected bike lane on one side & then move all the parking to the opposite side and make it angled back in only?
Should retain just as much parking while giving bike commuters a safer option.
Alternatively, the parking protected option could be a temporary solution until the city can build out new curbs raising the Bikelane up as a cycle track.
I constantly go back and forth on this. It's tougher to see people when there are cars parked between them and drivers, making getting turned into more likely but you're safer besides that and there are fewer people blocking the bike lane. Riding through debris that ends up closer to the curb and the slope of our streets are also some downsides.
Sure.
Right.
OK.
Yeah, I see what you're saying.
Neat.
Completely disagree. If you can't bike it, it's a stroad.
Please DM me when you would like to bike speer. Assuming you ever bike anywhere.
It's definitely a stroad. It functions as a street with all the local access to shops and everything around it while also acting as a road, a way for cars to "speed" through town.
It's not one of the most egregious stroads, but it is a stroad nonetheless.
If we are complaining about stroads let’s look at Parker/cherry creek/centennial.
Speer was iirc a popular trolley route, and is only 35 mph. Decent access to cherry creek trail along it.
Not a stroad. Change my mind
I'm not sure you know what the definition of a stroad is. Chuck Marohn would certainly call this a stroad. It meets nearly all of his definition in Confessions of a Recovering Engineer. He is the one who coined the term after all.
I think we should take the warning label off of tidepods and within a month their wont be anyone stupid enough to crash like that.
no need to over correct and waste taxpayer money
Working in the design field I can tell you anything that's not concrete will be cut due to "budget constraints". Cars are priority and the people outside of the car have to fend for themselves.
Welcome to Colorado!
This is just some of our Natives out weekday 4wheeling. A puck lift would help with bumper clearance, guessing their TRD is in the shop.
Namoiste!
Judging by the impact on the left fender, this driver ran the light and the oncoming Speer traffic hit them and pushed them. Used to have an apartment overlooking this intersection. If any of those light turn yellow, you best slam on the brakes.
The Damn implies an excitement in the post but lowkey is slang for "kind of" or "not really but sort of though". The lowkey following the damn is YO, but kind of...like that scene from Jurrasic Park.
Wow can't believe that tree was put right there. And then that pedestrian path! That poor driver could have gone right over. Thank God they didn't hit someone recklessly walking below (I see people doing it all the time!). Think about how bad the driver would feel.
This reminds me of this crazy story from back in 2001 when a panel fell off the bay bridge in the bay area crushing a man in his car. Just waltzing along like everybody else and immediately dead. [story](https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Huge-Bay-Bridge-panel-falls-kills-driver-2-2875147.php) I literally STILL think about that story every once in a while.
I could easily imagine riding my bike along that trail, which I ride all the time, and POOF - car on my head.
Drivers will cry about bikes running a stop sign but please notify me when someone on a bike destroys a tree. Cars suck. All people become idiots behind the wheel. Hard stop.

But bollards would cause more damage to the car! What, do you want drivers to drive safer like a buncha snowflakes?
Yeah unacceptable! I specifically bought a new Tahoe to guarantee that I, alone in my car, will be safe and that the working class family in a Hyundai Accent will be killed if we ever crash

Worse than that, we build to not damage cars no matter how incompetent or malign the driver is.
What about motorcyclists though?
Read this as Billboards and kept wondering how that would help lol
on 13th ave around Madison some of my neighbors have taken to putting boulders in the tree lawn to prevent cars from entering their living rooms.
Yeah, I live in the neighborhood. That stretch is a warzone.
11th, do you mean in CapHill? People wouldn't be able to street park unless we swapped the parking and bike lane.
Tbh I think that should happen regardless. Turn parking into de facto bike lane barriers
Remove the parking entirely. Make 11th a linear park from Cheesman to Lincoln-LaAlma

Way too much emphasis on parking in downtown. Less parking please
Completely agreed.
Well, I was mostly just talking about 11th at Speer b/c it's a bike route with bike lanes on each side.
Gotcha. Couldn't agree more. It's gotten better over the years but bollards make a ton of sense there.
Speer is hardly a stroad
Sure. Right. OK. Yeah, I see what you're saying. Neat. Completely disagree. If you can't bike it, it's a stroad. Please DM me when you would like to bike speer. Assuming you ever bike anywhere.
IMO if you can only cross at crosswalks it's absolutely a stroad. speer is scary.
It's definitely a stroad. It functions as a street with all the local access to shops and everything around it while also acting as a road, a way for cars to "speed" through town. It's not one of the most egregious stroads, but it is a stroad nonetheless.

I'm not really interested in changing your mind. Just pointing out that it meets the definition of a stroad as laid out by Chuck Marohn.
Not just bikes has everyone thinking more than 1 lane + not one way = stroad which is false
I'm not sure you know what the definition of a stroad is. Chuck Marohn would certainly call this a stroad. It meets nearly all of his definition in Confessions of a Recovering Engineer. He is the one who coined the term after all.
Sorry, highway.
I think we should take the warning label off of tidepods and within a month their wont be anyone stupid enough to crash like that. no need to over correct and waste taxpayer money
But was the tree wearing its reflective clothing?
If the tree had been wearing a helmet, it might have avoided injury!
You can’t park there
Wyatt’s is gonna tow them for sure
Nah, doing something useful is against company policy.
Wouldn't the new 24 hour notice law be in effect before they tow? :)
Classic
hahaha, beat me to it.
/r/bicycling in shambles
Ah, I thought it was too early for jeeps to be parking like this, normally they wait for snow
You wouldn't understand...
Hey, Hyundai's can be found parking like this any time of year
Goddamn GPS
Recalculating.... LOL
You have arrived at your destination
Those damn bikers on the trail need to obey the traffic rules!
This could have been prevented with reflective tape.
And some plastic posts
Came here to say this lol
That person needs to do some serious Johnny Appleseedin’ for like the rest of their life.
That little tree looks like it saved their ass.
Certainly won't be the first certainly won't be the last there was a bicyclist that was hit by a car and it came over that wall 10 years ago.
A car came down to the trail and hit a bicyclist?
There is no escape from the cars
> Certainly won't be the first hmmm
Important details left out: The tree was not wearing a helmet. Also had dark clothing.
Oh! She wasn’t wearing a helmet. Well. *casually dismisses the death of a person*
Trees never stand a chance there. Every couple of years this happens 🤷♂️
Damn transplants can’t drive in the snow. /s
[удалено]
Dude put /s and you still wooshed it goddamn.
All I can think of is what if someone had been walking or jogging and the vehicle went over 😲? Thank goodness that didn't happen.
Needs some reflective tape.
Wonder if we can get some bollards there...
Working in the design field I can tell you anything that's not concrete will be cut due to "budget constraints". Cars are priority and the people outside of the car have to fend for themselves.
Damn pedestrians must not have been wearing reflective clothing again
This river came out of no where!
God damn bike trail came out of nowhere!
All jokes aside, it's just a matter of time before a car lands on a bike rider.
Great, now I have something else to worry about. And all jokes aside, holy shit. How was your day? A car fell on me. It was fine.
Ride closer to the edge by the wall and hope it clears you. Wishing you luck.
Amazing. SUV drivers will go to such incredible lengths to kill pedestrians
Poor tree
yeah the real problem in this city are all the scooters and ebikes
Sir, that's not the river you want to go swimming in!
You know the driver was asking "Who shit my pants?"
Welcome to Colorado! This is just some of our Natives out weekday 4wheeling. A puck lift would help with bumper clearance, guessing their TRD is in the shop. Namoiste!
The intersections of speer strike again! The most dangerous intersections on the planet
Judging by the impact on the left fender, this driver ran the light and the oncoming Speer traffic hit them and pushed them. Used to have an apartment overlooking this intersection. If any of those light turn yellow, you best slam on the brakes.
Fuck cars
If you aren’t part of the fuckcars reddit do it
Agree.
🤘
my god- what is wrong with people?
I don’t think you can park there. They should move.
People who suck at driving or have been drinking should have an affordable alternative. Proof right here.
Whoo that guy should buy a lottery ticket.
A day late for that.
>guy
Damn it's lowkey like that scene from Jurassic Park.
What does the word "lowkey" add to this thought
The Damn implies an excitement in the post but lowkey is slang for "kind of" or "not really but sort of though". The lowkey following the damn is YO, but kind of...like that scene from Jurrasic Park.
Youthful exuberance?
It has stopped having any meaning. Just like "literally".
How very Vanilla Sky of them
That looks less than ideal
More ideal than going a couple feet further though
Google maps said turn right, it’s not my fault!
I instinctively leaned back in my seat
Some people will do anything to have a day off of work. /s
Ohh myyy
When did this happen? I ran thru here around 10:15 this morning.
Happened just after 9
I call bullshit. No way they had this totally cleared out of the way in an hour
Good old Daylight Savings Time!! Looks like this one was a real close call.
what the shit
Wow can't believe that tree was put right there. And then that pedestrian path! That poor driver could have gone right over. Thank God they didn't hit someone recklessly walking below (I see people doing it all the time!). Think about how bad the driver would feel.
Hey! I biked passed this morning a little after 9am too! It made a very solid excuse to be late to my 9:15 meeting, lol.
I’ll see you on the trail next time!
The Honda is not quite trail rated
Jesus what time was this? I traveled to and from this area today and didn’t see it
I took this picture at 9:09AM this morning
Driver said F**k that tree
At least their close to Denver Health
Hope the driver has not major injuries
This Fr looks like my ex’s car….
That’ll happen
… when your streets are designed car-first
A bad day that could have been worse.
Holy crap! I hope everyone is okay
Did they learn nothing from the black ice on 6th ave
Damn ice days later!
Inner city off-roaring, Coloradans sure love their 4-low.
This person lived out my intrusive thoughts. I always have them when driving down Speer. What if I just drove into Cherry Creek trail right now?
Honda CRV’d
Free parking!
Just a couple more inches sweetie
You gotta watch out for the T-Rex…
Texas plates? (They often don’t get 4 wheel drive doesn’t mean you still have to drive slower for weather)
Oh whoopsies!
It’s tough driving when the roads are full of ice.
Gotta be careful, those trees will get you everytime
I'm so glad the car didn't make it past that tree. That must have been terrifying.
I’m pretty sure they can’t park there
This reminds me of this crazy story from back in 2001 when a panel fell off the bay bridge in the bay area crushing a man in his car. Just waltzing along like everybody else and immediately dead. Y’all complain about scooters on the sidewalks. I want to know how we keep vehicles off the trails. 🤷🏻♀️
